Rebuttal: Do I use lag tactics and can anyone in this thread say they get more wins on me than I do on them?
Answer: I believe I saw you defend a ‘mashing in the middle of a combo’ argument. Play for a few more years and you’ll recognize openings/mistakes that can be countered with a JD/GC. Another year and you’ll purposely leave a combo open for a JD/GC reset. Useful for Jenet’s GC super… Mashing has no part in high level gameplay in any fighter other than the VS series and that is a fact.
This thread was obviously started as a flame war and that’s not very constructive.
^^^And how many of us that play on kailerra are high level players? Kailerra is there to have fun and play some games, not win huge tourneys or shit like that. And the people that dont have fun playing STILL intend on coming back and bitching about the people they play, instead of taking their game elsewhere. THATS not very constructive, either.
I started this thread in a respectful manner and parties that offered a rebuttal have tried to knock this into a base flame war. I hot heated yesterday and went off. I don’t appreciate being called a Kaillera Warrior. It’s like when people call you a Console Warrior, as if to say your skill level doesn’t reach beyond casual in the basement with your friends. I’ve been playing SF a long time, contribute to my community, travel to my tournaments and built a rep as a solid - very good player. Insinuating that I’m just some guy that plays online and only has the competence to abuse laggy games is very insulting.
As for the guy that took a shot at me on IRC, he didn’t qualify and to paraphrase what he said, he only knew he was able to beat one player that did qualify. So what does that say for his skill level in comparison to the rest of the field? The otehr 15 players could have and would have dominated him but it doesn’t matter because he could take on the worst of the 16?
As for online play, it’s my feeling that you should be able to use whatever advantages you can get online just as you would offline. One could make an arguement (and some have) that glitches should be banned offline but it’s part of the game and open for use. Abusing an input delay, or the fact that you can get multiple jump ins without being punished is a factor that you just need to learn to deal with. I get people jumping in on me with Gief Splash or OG Sagat j.hk all the time. It’s a bitch to deal with but if you adjust timing and throw reversals when you wouldn’t normally do it you’re going to at least trade. It’s not how it “should” be but it is what it is so you deal with it.
Luxxx,
I never condoned mashing in a traditional sense. (i admit I regrettable used the term) I meant it as a manner of making sure the move gets buffered, like negative edge/pressing 3 buttons for a super. The throw thing is something like an option select. In that sometimes you can get away with certain things because of the nature of the system. In this case, crazy buffering. If you get hit with a jump in, sometimes they hit too high and don’t get enough frames. If you want, go for a throw. To counter or bait this, people re-jump. If you don’t go for the throw, you can walk forward, or anti-air. If they jump up, often, the close HP or HK can beat the jump. (I’m sure you’re aware of Jenet’s close HP, it’s pretty good anti air in my book.) If they don’t hit high, you’re gonna be hit with the combo anyway, so why not try?
In 3s you can do c.lp+lk. This will interrupt or trade with certain moves, and will break a throw attempt.
The example I gave was in the context of Terry’s guard crush strings. You can do all sorts of crazy stuff and nothing will come out, until they go fo ff+HP again because he can get like 5-8 (depending on what you do) uninterruptable hits.
I’m just not sure what this thread could have made other than an arguement. I don’t think anyone could have realistically expected it to go like this:
Nagata: "I don’t like it when people complain about lag tactics."
Everyone: “Okay, we’ll make sure it doesn’t happen anymore.”
People complain about stuff, it’s about as sure as taxes. When you have something that is universally disliked by both higher level players and scrubs (lag), then not only do you have to be able to stomach, but you probably should very well expect some level of complaint. It’s just how people are.
In complaining about complaints, you are merely doing the same thing as them, voicing an opinion about the opinions of those who dislike lag tactics. While their complaints may be annoying, neither is anymore valid than the other. Sure, you could say your request is more reasonable, seeing as complaining is a controllable phenomena, and lag, much to our dismay, is not, but at the end of the day your being too idealistic in the thought that everyone would just stop complaining. Far too many people involved to cause some communal shift in thought, and many who share much dislike for lag tactics and by proxy your position.
All I’m saying is in the end of the day, when it comes to whiners, it’s just as easy to ignore them, then it is to try to change their minds about what is appropriate to whine about, since you have to come to some sort of agreement, and as you can see just from this thread, there are a multitude of people who do not enjoy lag tactics.
