This whole discussion just proves that most people dont think with “time” in the back of their mind.
What did people pay for SF4 up until USF4 (those that started in vanilla and bought each upgrade?): ~120 bucks?
Think of it like that: you have paid that amount of money for vanilla with future updates for free. Huge price for an imcomplete game!
Now we got an “incomplete” game for 60 bucks with the same agenda.
My guess is, in 6 years this game is worth a lot more than 60 bucks and Im fine with that.
I’ve even seen people say they want an updated “Super SFV” version because it will cost less overall than buying all the DLC - displaying an utter lack of awareness of what SFV is. Even though the game has tons of problems, the service model itself is pretty fair in terms of pricing. (For example, you can get some stages and costumes for FM.) The lion’s share of the blame has to fall on Capcom by default, but many of the casuals they’re trying to appeal to can’t seem to grasp the value of what Capcom is doing with this game.
In SF4, you couldn’t pick and choose which characters you want. You buy the updated version, you get everything whether you wanted it or not. In SF5, if you think Ibuki or whoever is a waste of a character slot, you don’t have to pay a cent for her. But if you’re the kind of person who wants every single piece of content for the sake of having it, yeah, it’s going to seem like a rip-off.
I feel the same way, I guess because I’m not a hardcore fighting game fan to the extent that I’m interested in every single one. I like KI and SFV right now because they look amazing and are easy to learn.
