An attempt by the governors of many US states to standardize education.
Basically, No Child Left Behind happened because everybody (everybody) is just allowing American education to be complete shit, so that made it okay for the federal government to shove just any god awful idea down everyone’s throat. This is an actual positive attempt to improve education in a constructive manner.
I’ve read a lot of criticism about it, which seems to be directly most to the fact that the people that put together were most the governors and not education experts, but I’ve not done any real research into criticism about it so I don’t know what’s up.
It uses some fucking bizarre ass terminology too, especially for young kids.
you end up getting nonsense like this being asked to 4-8 year olds:
and this:
it’s basically education brought to you by the same people who relied on their fingers to figure out how to multiply 1 to 10 by 9 (although that is a fancy trick).
By that logic a man simply being attracted to women isn’t enough to make him heterosexual. He would actually have to act on that attraction to be considered heterosexual.
Would that same man then be homosexual if he did a homosexual act but wasn’t actually attracted to men? Maybe he was coerced? Maybe he was drunk/high? Maybe he was desperate for human contact? Maybe he was curious? We wouldn’t call him a vegetarian just because he nibbled on a piece of broccoli.
And even if you could assert that it’s a matter of action it begs the question: what action is necessary for a given sexual label?
If someone finds anthropomorphic fox girls sexy is a he a furry? He can’t exactly really have sex with one of those. Are daydreams good enough? What if he masturbates to hentai featuring fox girls? What if he has sex with a regular woman but wants her to wear fox ears? At what point does his action warrant the label of furry?
The idea of sexuality being tied to action is fucking retarded. Sexuality is about what an individual personally finds attractive, not what they act upon.
No it’s not. this inefficiency isn’t progress, it’s regression. It’s more of the same bullshit schools do now. It’s another attempt to streamline school into a one size fits all, and it uses shitty methods.
Nobody does things like this in the real world, you’d just get fired.
Wait…what? I don’t get this at all. How does the second method give you the right answer? It looks like it gave 4 possible answers.
Also it looks like 4x the work. How is doing all that additional work in order to subtract 12 from 32 better then just…subtracting 12 from 32?
Edit: On no wait I see. You add up the red circled numbers to get 20 which is the answer. I don’t understand where you get the red circled row of numbers from tho. Or even the first set of numbers. I’ll admit I am terrible at Math it confuses me pretty easily, but man this seems 4x more complicated then just normal division…
It is x4 the work, over complicated, and stupid. Republicans should have come about and said that common core would turn our kids into idiots, because it will.
What kind of shit is this. You don’t need to know 4 diffrent ways to hammer a nail to a flat piece of wood, when there’s a one way that works everytime. And this isn’t going to help students in the long run with higher level math courses that are much more complex and use actual abstract concepts. this tries to be abstract, and it fucking fails hard.
Ah yea i meant subtraction. Managed to use Subtraction in the whole post then drop in Division at the end for some silly reason smh lol.
Yea this is all so confusing. Kids aren’t even going to be able to count money when they get older which is a skill they will really really need. What the fuck at that graph at the top of the page? I’ve never seen anything like that before. It’s like they are trying to make sure that not only does the kid not understand, but the parent wont ever be able to help them understand because they don’t fuckin get it either…
My mother briefly mentioned that my younger sister was learning a different method for subtraction in primary school involving subtracting from left to right. I thought it was weird hearing about it, but now that I see what bullshit roundabout ways they’re teaching my sister, I’m concerned that’s she’s not getting a proper education from the people that are getting paid to do so.
No offense, but it’s hilarious seeing Americans insult better mathematical techniques that have always been used in the math heavy side of the world
The “old” style of math thrived due to its ability to unconsciously form and maintain a self affecting psychic dominance in its people (this part is theory)
LOL, i think that Occulus Rift thing fried your brain and burned your eyes, because there is nothing superior about teaching this to children, like this.
They’re experimenting, our english communication was built on the foundations on the “old way” after all. The real old way (ancient) is the “new way” but if you guys want to be misinformed then that’s on you
