Fuck me, I can’t find any characters I actually want to sit down and learn in Melty Blood. It also doesn’t help half the things listed in combos are things I can’t find explained anywhere on melty bread. It’s just abbreviations, which I can’t find listed anywhere on the forums or the wiki.
P much. The Nov. 7th tourney will be my first time going to AL if I get the day off, speaking of which I wanna bring a MBAA setup if there’s space and if people actually wanna give it a try
Off the top of my head, no characters have charge motions in MB, only charged normals. There are definitely turtle-style characters however, or characters that reward patience versus aggression. Aoko and Chaos can both turtle their ass off, as they can fill the screen up with shit and wait for the opponent to do something stupid or guess wrong. F-WLen can also turtle a little, but using her effectively is a little tricky, as she is a technical character.
Ryougi is a ahem console character. Learn some BnBs and learn her almost guaranteed guardstring and you should be good.
As far as the “Shiki” name goes, they’re both part of the same clan, but not directly related. They both have the Eyes of Perception (or something gay like that) in which they can see a living thing’s Life Lines, and cut those lines to instantly kill said living thing (CHEAP). There’s more to their relation in the Tsukihime storyline I think, but I don’t read many visual novels
Which abbreviations you need help with? As far as finding a character goes – and I’m not trying to insult you here – but find someone you can do combos with. If you by chance haven’t looked at the Wiki (for a character that you wanna play + has info filled out) then check it out:

Even I’ve contributed some things to it, I’m so proud of myself :bgrin:
I too might have to make the trip to Arcade Legends that weekend if the whole gang is going. I’ve never been there before, but I’ve never seen a Street Fighter Alpha-anything in a (edit: dedicated) cabinet before and it’s worth the trip to play on one. Besides, somebody’s got to do an ArcadeFly page for this arcade. The internet’s got to know what’s up.
Speaking of arcades, the new Dave & Buster’s at Polaris appears finished and opens on Monday, October 12. It’s about half the size of the one in Hilliard. I took a look there today and I couldn’t see too many games. The only machines where I could make out a title were two GlobalVR NASCAR Arcade machines, a first in Columbus. Monday night I’ll be able to tell you if the place is any good for gaming.
As for Season’s Beatings, I’ll be missing all the Friday tournaments due to work, so no Melty Blood for me. I’ll also be missing SF4 Saturday morning because I have to be home for the cable guy to come here and set up Road Runner for us. I’d rather be able to camwhore with more bitrate that sit around in a crowded room for hours waiting for a chance to get people’s fight money. I do plan to be there both nights after midnight or so for casuals, and Sunday in its entirety, and I still haven’t decided on playing HDR or not, but I’m not too keen on sticking around at the venue while it’s packed so full you can’t stand somewhere and watch a match. I wouldn’t even get to play any Tekken or Soul Calibur this time. This is the least hype I’ve even been for a Season’s Beatings tournament. I am totally up for casual sessions elsewhere.
Incidentally I bought a MBAA guide on ebay… I have no idea why. I think I’m kind of getting into collecting fighting game guides.
I know about the wiki Tiggy, but I’ve been looking at melty bread more than anything. I just don’t know how to tell when something’s a jump cancel, or what a j.bc is, etc. There should probably be a page on the wiki for all the abbreviations.
I’ll give you a few I can think of:
JC = Jump Cancel
j.B, j.C, or j.BC = Jump+B button, Jump+C button; j.BC is just the lazy way of saying “Jump B C”, or “Do this ender until you learn cause I hate transcribing notations”. If you see a number before it (i.e. j.6B j.2C), that simply means jumping forward B or jumping down C
dj. = Double Jump; an example of the most common air combo ender is j.B j.C > dj.B dj.C > air throw; the > notates the next part of the combo where a drastic change in the combo takes place, a.k.a. “If yo don’t do this, you will drop that shit”
******, [C]= Charged normals, a.k.a. “Blowback Edge”; you hold the button, and the character will have a white light at the point of the normal right before they do the attack.
sdj. = Super Deep Jump [-in] or Super Dash[ing] Jump (honestly not sure); I’ve only seen one combo that uses this notation so far, so I wouldn’t worry about this one
IH = Initiative Heat; it’s like a Roman Cancel in GG. You can only do this in Full Moon when you’re at Max meter. Press A+B+C during an attack and the character will cancel the current attack animation and return to a neutral state – can also be done in the air. Doing this will instantly convert all red life into yellow life (Heal you) and it will put you in “Heat” mode
Damn that’s a lot. Let me know if you run into any other abbreviation problems
Thx Tiggy, it doesn’t help when the wiki is still a work in progress.
np. I actually just went ahead and edited the Glossary section of the Wiki lol
Tiggys stick is world famous.
How many of you are getting hype for next weekend?
Get HYPE for parking and crowds.
SB is a tourney not a con. Get over it.
There is parking out the ass over there.
And yeah, the crowds could be big.
I’m pretty hype for eating Raisin’ Cane’s also.
I’m pretty hype for getting wiped out in my first match because of me not practicing SFIV at all.
Same here appending HDR and whatever else I play in (proly Melty if I get practice this week). That’s what loser’s bracket is for! And pools! I think the pool system is slightly different, but I’m unsure.
Let’s hear it for casuals!!!
It might as well be at this rate.
“Pools”, at least as they were at evo, were really just separate brackets. Typically pools are used for round robin play. Loser’s bracket will work the same way as it always does I’m sure.
And Paul, I’m down for fighter’s bingo whenever it happens. Let me know if you have Slaughter Sport in there, if not I can donate it for the tourney.
yo Dj-SAn, by any chance you have a twin sister that goes to Ohio State??
Fugee just contacted me in spreading the flyers around OSU campus. It’s bout to get hypeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee for SB4.
LOL, this reminds me, can’t believe I forgot. Today I saw Hitstun’s female doppelganger. It was terrifying.
I wanted to take a picture, since she was in the car next to me, but I was around the hilltop and her man friend looked like he may have killed for less.
Sorry hitstun, and no offense, but you do not make a pretty woman.
Uh, I’ve had people say they know someone that looks just like me, but this is a first. That’s…interesting. Are you talking like a Midnight Bliss’d version of me or a did she look like a man? Either way is creepy. Next page please.
Oh yeah, she had a definite mannish look to her.
