I’m disappointed that a Kung Lao still won MK9 in Evo. I’m also sad that people are actually giving PerfectLegend props for doing what every Kung Lao player does. It’s true that PL played well, but with KL it’s hard not to; he has the tools to do everything including inescapable block strings and enough pressure to chip people to death even if they block everything, with very very very small windows for punishment.
I was infinitely more surprised and amazed by REO’s Mileena than I will ever be about PerfectLegend’s Kung Lao. EVER. I play against better players on Live.
I honestly don’t watch or play MK that much, but seeing REO play Mileena at level of high was awe inspiring to me. The way he controlled space, roll punished and turned what looked like high right/high reward situations into big damage was great to watch. Although it would have been nice for me to see some high level Nightwolf, I was very entertained by Top 8’s matches overall. I can’t speak much on how PL played but all I can say was there were probably 100+ KL players and he still came out on top

Completely disagree, and just FYI, Skarlett is more broken than Kung Lao. FYI. If he did what every KL player does, why weren’t there 8 kung lao players in top 8? No, Perfect Legend adapted the second set, and you could see him adapting with the Jump Kicks to stuff Mileena’s pressure. Perfect Legend didn’t win off the power of his character, he won off the power of his skill mixed with a character with a tool for everything. There was a wide variety of characters in top 8. Moreso than any other game at evo. Stop complaining, dude, because this is just ignorant.
He probably knows his matchups a lot better than the other Kung Laos.
Although I’m extremely curious how EVO would’ve gone had they allowed DLC characters… I can imagine at least one Skarlet in top 8…

And SimpleKiss, calling me ignorant, yet spouting nonsense about how broken Skarlet is without having actually played as her is pretty ironic. I play as her, thus I know EXACTLY how to deal with her.
Skarlet relies on her pressure, but none of her pressure moves AS SHE ATTACKS other than two strings that are unsafe (one which moves slightly forward on the first and fifth hit, one which only moves forward for the third hit). Notice how this is different than Reptile, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Kung Lao, etc. This means her only means of approach are jumping, dash cancelling daggers and EX blood dash, not regular. Even dash cancelling daggers and trying to pressure that way will get you a nice uppercut to the face. None of her strings are safe, and can only be made ALMOST safe by blood dashing, and if you don’t follow the blood dash with anything (all of which is 100% punishable), you will get hit before you can even throw.
PLEASE, know your matchups. People only say she is broken because she has two glitches, none of which I even use or care to use. 1) Her back throw is 17%, 2) her blood slide can cancel into up slash. Once you realize that most of her damage comes from either spamming blood slide or overhead, you tend to BLOCK and punish. If you want to see how you can get around a Skarlet, hit me up on PSN or Live and I’ll play you over and over until you get it.
Who are bad matchups for Skarlet? Well, who is top tier? Raiden, Kung Lao, Nightwolf (to a degree), Cyber Sub, Johnny Cage. Why? They have safe wakeups, teleports, better pressure, better anti-airs and better mixups.
As for PL adapting the second match, um OK. Like I said, KL has tools for everything. It’s just a matter of knowing when to use them. Props to him for that. That is what differentiates him from other KL’s. Although I wouldn’t exactly defend PL by mentioning the character variety in top cuts, considering the Mileena was the only real surprise. Not seeing a Reptile in it was also a surprise. THAT was a shock.
I dont play MK…but the entire time i was watching that vid, i couldnt help but notice just how easily that ho builds meter just by doing those dagger cancels and shit…

@ Thomas: Yep, I’ll be down for casuals after 6pm today. My Zero/Tron/Whatever team is still kind sketch, but we’ll see what happens. Besides Wesker (who I also agree shouldn’t be on the same team as Zero), I might try Sentinel, Phoenix or Doom.

@ Icege: Word from the Jags camp is that he’s been throwing well and being very respectful to Garrard so far. Other than a few Tweets, not much has been said as of yet. I wish my older brother was here because he’d love to see the packers play.

@ Icege: To answer your first question, there aren’t any planned at this time (I didn’t realize you asked the question until now :P). The owner at Game Nation wants to host one badly, but no one has stepped up and I still have no desire to host another Cola tournament anytime soon.
I was hoping that even though the job I was interviewing for last month didnt pan out that I would at least be able to switch days with some temp help that we have, but my boss shut that down and hit me with two weeks no days off XD didn’t know she had pocket Aces T.T
But yea that nipped going up there this month in the bud. I haven’t gotten tix yet but I want to keep them below $125. I’m going to pull some strings in Charlotte to see of I can abracadabra some. I haven’t been since 04
