Columbia, SC: "Vox Veritas Vita"

Maddness Gaming? Is this some kind of arcade? Friday? Is that when people are going to be there? Do they have SSFIV? Are they on Facebook? Should I come? It’s close to me.

Man you sound just like me when War for Cybertron was released. I have never been that glue to the couch in my life (at least until WFC2 Drops). I’ll be picking up Marvel, but several months down the road, unless I can score it for cheap

Is anybody from Columbia going to be able to make the crack session next week? I’m sorry it’s during the week and on such short notice, but I work on the weekends (and weekdays) while having school Monday through Friday. Tuesday and Thursdays are my only days off, and I have class from 4:00 - 5:15 then T.T

I also wanted to do this while Andrew is in town on leave. He’s a local Tekken player that is stationed in Florida.

This is strictly a level up session! No judging plz! If you really want to gauge somebody, sit down and play them in an extended set whenever there aren’t people waiting to play. We’re not looking to establish a pecking order, we’re just looking to see how strong one another are so that we can get moar powa~ <3

It will be a good opportunity to scout the level of competition in the Lowcountry in the various games, plus it will give you plenty of opportunity to woo some players to a game you might be trying to create a scene for that hasn’t spread statewide quite yet! hinthintwinkwinknudgenudge

I’ve limited my MvC3 characters to Amaterasu, Felicia, Zero, Trish, Dante, Thor, Magneto, Storm, Phoenix, Arthur, Wesker, and Taskmaster. I’m trying to limit who I experiment with at first so that don’t spread myself too thin, but this is a Capcom game and it is part of the Versus series, so I fully expect bullshit to be abound and counter match ups aplenty. Got to have them counters ready!

Right now I’m leaning towards some form of Amaterasu/Zero/Felicia. Dante/Amaterasu could be interesting, as could Wesker/Amaterasu. Ammy’s elements super and projectile assists are so good, plus she can be on point O.O!

Hey everyone, how’s it goin. I just wanted to throw some input about the SF4 Team for Final Round because to me it seems like a ton of organization that’s not going on needs to go on. I totally want to see SC have an awesome team going into the event, so it’s a little disappointing to see lack of enthusiasm going into the discussion. I know I’m not much of a member of the SC gaming scene in general, but I’m going to go ahead and try to get some convo started because I think it would be a whole lot healthier for the community.

What SC Should Do
I think everyone who wants a piece of the action should set up a chat conference really soon and get everyone talking about who to put on the team. It’s silly having a captain for each region I think, it’s only going to cause arguments like in the past. We have a lot of people that can provide a lot of good input and make a team work, so I definitely think we should take advantage of it and work together. Either set up a conference or just have everyone post on here concerning who should be on the team - not about why themselves should be, because I’m sure everyone doesn’t want to hear that. I’m pretty sure a clear consensus between at least the top three or so will be made, and from there it’ll be easy to pick out the remaining players.

What I think… For What it Is Worth
Josh is totally right about diversity. You definitely want a team that has tricks to make SC standout against the competition and fundamentals to anchor the team. I think a team with two-to-three “trick” characters along with two-to-three fundamentals would make for a solid squad that you can diversify against any competition. I don’t know anything about the low country scene, but just looking at Columbia alone a good sample team would be:

Byron - Viper
Dwaine - Rufus
Pat - Vega

And then a toss-up between

Ben or Mike G - Something Real
or Keyon with Guy, who I hear is funny.

Having three trick characters to start off every 5v5 would be fantastic, and then having either a fundamental or trick character to choose from matchup-to-matchup is a real boon for any team. Dwaine is solid and plays Rufus, which every team needs I think. Pat and Byron have shown their abilities more then enough times and can play anchor along with Dwaine imo. Ben I hear has improved a lot, and if playing Balrog would be a solid person to play early in the two or three spot to clear up any wonky shit that can come up. If Mike G is willing to play and practice with ***one ***character again, he is always a strong option as well. If Keyon’s Guy is as funny as I think it may be, I think he would also be a good early to mid choice for the team to try and cut the fat and surprise some teams.

There are of course a ton of other players in the state that could be on this team. This is just an example of something SC should totally be thinking about early. I don’t know how Charleston is at the moment, but I think Ryan could also take that “fundamental” character spot if he’s still on his game. Justin should totally be considered as well if he is still competitive in SF4, and back to Cola if Xavier was interested and practicing (sorry man, haven’t seen you in a long time, sup sup ) he would probably even be a top choice in my book considering his track record. Whatever SC does, I think it is important to have the right composition to make a strong 5v5 team, rather than just stacking up a bunch of characters. Definitely think about putting together a good, solid strategy so you can take down maybe even some of the better states on the East.

I just wanted to get real conversation going. We need to name some names and get the ball rolling. Everyone knows each other well, think about who would be best for this and give your opinion. I think it’s good that everyone gets their strengths and weaknesses out there and start talking about it.

Oh hell no Kof 13 must see the light day.

@ Person.Five: Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes. I’m not sure how close it is to you because I’m not sure where you are in relation to Sandhills. I understand about the whole driving thing, but if you can make it, it would be great to see you finally :stuck_out_tongue:

@ Optimus: You have no idea how hyped I am about this game!

Reading the FR forums its going to be a 3 vs 3 team tourney for the games from what Larry posted. How about on late friday night after the main FR room closes we have a 5 on 5 charleston vs cola?

crack session is being pushed back to the week after next!

@ Thomas: How’s it goin!? I haven’t seen you since that Savannah tournament last Spring. How’s your Guile coming along? Thanks for the clarification on teams…I must have misread the info on the site. I’d like to have a Charleston vs Cola 5v5 at FR. The last one we had, there were only two active Cola SSFIV players and rest of us hadn’t touched the game in months (you can thank BBCS for that, lol).

@ Icege: Goodluck with your sessions and it sucks that they fall on weekdays. I plan on having sessions at my place throughout the month of February for FR, so it’s good to hear both regions of SC are preparing themselves.

Also, I canceled having the qualifiers for the two days I mentioned earlier, since it seems like only a couple people would be happy with the outcome and I can already smell possible drama with that…lol. Also, most of you wanna talk out the details, so I’ll let you all carry on.

@Thomas, Kimchi, Simplekiss, Shimata: GG’s in LoL tonight. We had some awesome games and teamwork, regardless of that last game’s outcome. Even then, we made a nice little push at the end. Fed Mundo was fed… Y’all know you want me to roll Taric and make u kiss the rings though, don’t even lie. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER NIGGA

Fact: Noone is more hype about MvC3 in Columbia than I am.

Try me. I DARE you.

Fact: Hype will not win you matches in MvC3

My Guile has improved alot and so is my overrall game in SSF4. I understand the system more now and how to game engine works it took me a good minute but I feel real comfortable in the game. I’ve been playing alot here the last few months and training for FR so I’m excited.

Fact: Beat Byron in FT5 in Marvel 2. D: Get at me.

Fact: no one cares about Marvel 2

Very true on Dungeon Fighter Online, Jaguar, involving parties. Tis better with a crew than just soloing.

And yes, Dr. Hat, I miss the usual talks that we had about such things. We’ve got to do it again soon. It’s also good to see you back in action, 12:51.

As for MvC3, I’m just ready to have fun with it. I’ve already found that my definition of “fun” varies from what others find as “fun,” but I’m still pretty interested in the game. Especially since I’ve returned home, I’ve found that I’m in that gray area when it comes to game dedication: I tend to play with too much “strength” to be considered “casual,” but I don’t do tournaments enough (or play every game as though I’m in a tournament) to be seen as “hardcore.”

Eh, I’ll take my “neutral” and have fun.

You know, we still have one more game to play in marvel 2. IIRC, we were tied at 4 at last year’s AZ. One more to break the tie, yes?

@ thehurricane: Well that’s good to hear and I can’t wait to face your Guile. I’ve been getting a lot of good match-up experience with him, Akuma, Chun and Honda lately so it’ll be nice to see your Guile has progressed. Have you guys found a new place to host your games at besides the community college?

@ Usagi: Oooooooo, it seems like someone just issued you a challenge. I wouldn’t take that instigates

@ DMajorBoss: Do you have a skype account? I think I like playing online games with friends more, if I can actually talk with them. Also, there’s nothing wrong with just playing MvC3 for fun and not competition. It’s the way most games should be anyway.

@ Cola: Anyone going to Nashi today? I plan on bringing my Wii and TvC along with a monitor. Keyon’s gonna provide the PS3.
@ AwardTour: Is this the same TV we saw at hhgregg? I plan on buying it next friday, since my brother will be moving on the 1st and I need to replace the tv in the living room.
