Anybody else want to make a trip over to KC to play #R with those guys? I don’t care when.
Double post!
I just e-mailed the guys at http://www.thevirtualarena.com/ to ask if they’d let us play over there and they seemed pretty receptive. Starting Monday evening I’m free to go down there whenever (my finals are done early), we should go like three or four strong minimum though I think. Anybody want to?
Ok…So what exactly is this place like. I went to the site, and all I got was that it was a like a big lan-party type place?

Yeah, apparently they only have like a handful of PCs though and the main draw seems to be the XBox. They’ve got eight TVs, I talked to the guy and he said we can bring sticks and consoles if need be (since I’d rather play the PS2 #R).
There used to be this place downtown called the Wreck Room and I kind of wonder if they’re not trying to follow in their footsteps; the Wreck Room was basically the house that Halo built. Personally I want to try playing in a place like this for a couple of reasons, but if you don’t want to haul ass to Vandiver and pay three bucks an hour for console I don’t really blame you.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Gunther’s to death but it hurts our little four-man scene to have only one venue, and console is kind of where fighting games are going anyway.
Im down with whateva-----sorry about that same double post I had…It was because of negative edge
Looks like a nice place although one of those 11:00 lock-ins might be more practical for us. I’m gonna try to save some money for MWC as is.
Just incase everyone was stricken with amnesia, the party is this thursday night @ 9pm. just a reminder to those I haven’t gotten invitations to:
Justin
Paul
Pat
Shohaib and Shekeib
Jaren
Chris (SNK)(raiken?)
Bryce (smiley)
Nathan (doesn’t check this thread, someone let him know please!)
Andrew - you wanna have a tourney, well plan it around the other tournies coming up in the new year (MWchal.? and/or others?). The first SAT of Jan. looked good? Or the second? The key to good turn-out is PLANNING!!!
Yeah, Raiken.
Thanks for the advice, I think the first Saturday in January might be a little early but I’ll ask around since I’d prefer to do this during winter break rather than afterwards.
I never got to thank the guys that came to N Cubed. Even though it was a small turn out it would have been smaller if you didn’t come so thank you for your support. Support the Midwest we(Midwest) have some really skilled players that just dont get out much to see what they need in their game to play at a higher level.
The Hugo player and the Q player impressed me alot. You guys can use normals really good. That Hugo player should try things with HammerFrenzy sometimes. It hits 90% of all the the attacks in the game including supers! That super combined with your skills should do wonders. Jump in wiff heavy punch 360 or either hammer/gigas works in clutch moments. I was rooting for the Q player though.
I think I saw a decent Ken too but he really couldn’t do shit against my Akuma on that left machine.(broke machine)
Well hope to see how good you guys get.

If everyone skipped out on tourneys with low turnout, we wouldn’t have much left in the Midwest. Thanks for the tournament.
I’d just like to let all of Missouri know that in the event of a console release of Fist of the North Star I have dibs on Shin. You wanted him, tough shit.
Hey thanks for the advice Cameron. I like using Gigas as a trump card, it really gives me the momentum in the match if it lands. Overall Hugo will have more options with Frenzy, you can punish an attempted escape and has huge stun damage. I agree that SA3 is the best.
Andrew - Are you going to pick the Fist of the South Star? (Although thinking back I think there were six of them). I’d like to pick Raoh just cause he was my favorite character in the series. We’ll see how the game turns out.
Shohaib: Vids of Arc Systems’ Fist of the North Star are up at http://www.trftrf.com/ and they are updating like crazy. When I saw Shin’s Instant Kill, where the dudes with winged helmets come down and bow before him and he pokes the Big Dipper into your chest, I knew the character was clearly based off of me. Not only do we look exactly alike, they ripped off my army too!
Right now there’s only one vid of Raoh, and I’m pretty sure he just gets fucked up by Hayashi’s Shin but I haven’t watched it yet. Shin has been regulating everyone so far; you’ll see.
Holy shit, Koichi dropped Millia for I-no?
I won’t be at the party thursday because I got to get up at 6 the next morning for finals. Nathan said he couldn’t make it either.
As far as FOTNS goes I have dibs on Rei and his WHOOOOOO!
OK, I am done with class and I want to make a trip up to Virtual Arena some time this week. Nick, when can you go? Shekeib/Shohaib? Chris? Maybe Paul? Anyone else?
I can’t this week since I have finals.
OK, here’s what I have in mind for the tourney.
Saturday the 8th: ST then 3S then #R… I’m thinking running the first round should take about an hour, so stagger the entries, let’s say 2 PM then 3 PM then 4 PM?
Friday night: One thing I really want to do for #R is storyline matches/rematches of close tournament matches or people who just seem to magically run into each other a lot in tournies. I’ll put my own money forward and maybe go ahead and come up with the matches myself, but let’s say the winner gets five bucks or something… so you’d have AKA’s RK vs. Chojin’s Ky, SuperFX’s Johnny vs. King LowTier’s May since I know if I was in Colorado the one thing I’d want to do is go to Columbia MO to play a video game, 722 vs. Cue since it came down to the last hit of the last round at N-Cubed 2005, Klaige vs. bladejuice since that was a grueling two-hour match at N-Cubed 2005. For the other games, we could run single-elim 2v2 or something; basically, Friday night is the “fun” tourney, and then Saturday is for real.
I’d like to run #R on console. I can’t stand console #R, but the fact of the matter is that’s how 90% of the country plays the game and the timing differences are significant, not to mention there are a lot of gamepad players out there. Josh, is there a way I can set this up? Also, could I talk to you about entry fees and what you think is a good idea? Also, do you want the fourth cooperation cup?
Another thing I’d really like to do, but I’m not sure if I can swing it financially, is get some sort of capture computer set up; just some box that sits there and rips the matches directly so we can make them available as soon as possible. I can do most of this with parts I have lying around the house, I think.
I’ll need a couple of volunteers to help me run the brackets.
Dude, im like all for this tourney, and anything you need, i’ll most definatly help out.
Like always I’m available around 4:30 on saturdays. As far as vids go how big would you make those Andrew? I have about 20 megs of web space I could use to host them.
my brother could bring his laptop. Just tell him how to get a direct feed of the matches and he’ll do it.
