Ok, guys, I figure we’ll have the tourney on either Friday the 17th or Saturday the 18th. Which date does everyone prefer (keep in mind we would have to start around 5-ish on Saturday because people would be at work)?
Josh was suggesting Saturday because of the possibility of out-of-towners, but I’m not sure anyone would be coming. What’s the likelihood of Stl coming out for something like this?
Aaron’s still on weekend shifts isn’t he?
I’d prefer Friday unless there’s a chance that STL can make it.

Ok, the tentative tourney plans are thus:
Friday, Nov. 17th
Games: Third Strike, GGXX Slash (if we have enough people)
Cost: $5 a piece
Get there: from 5-6 pm, to allow for people who might work or have school
We’ll run 3s first, double elim, standard brackets. If we have Gear we’ll try and run them either simultaneously or close behind, to make sure people aren’t there all night.

George the best advice I can give you is like everyone else said keep up on watching match videos and reading the forums and all that, but it’s not all that important and don’t sweat it too much about playing by the book… there’s a lot of bad information out there so if something works just go with it.
What helped me get better at GG was to basically do Josh’s shit back at him (which is why I always had Axl as a secondary through all of GG) and see what worked… so if people are doing something that’s hitting you a bunch, remember to try that on them next time. It’s only when you’ve got really strong fundamentals that it’s even important that you do all the right combos, know frame data and all that crap.

I wonder how long it takes to run single-game-single-elim tourneys, we should start doing thems on the regular… I’d like to play “for real” more often but not if it means ten-hour-long double-elim pain-in-the-ass tourneys all the time.
I guess it wouldn’t hurt to have more than like three players, but whatever…

I’m in for some of that … we’ll do it, as long as it doesn’t interfere with anything else. Maybe even just have whoever isn’t playing in the tourney at the time play their ST matches or something

Sign-ups: from 5-5:30 pm, to allow for people who might work or have school.
3s and GG will be double elim, standard bracketing, 2 out of 3 games. ST will be round robin, 2 out of 3 games. I plan on starting this as soon as everyone shows up so if you or someone you know will be late, let people know so we don’t start without them.
