Columbia, MO: All Muscle, No Fire

Man, my parents are out of town, so I have to watch the dogs at home this and next weekend. So I still can’t make it down there for a tournament.

Hell, I’m not sure if I can even go down the next weekend, since I’ll probably be leaving for school.

… FUCK

Scott if I go down there the 7th-9th, will you have any time to play in the evenings?

You, sir, are worthless :bgrin:

Seriously, that sucks man. Was looking forward to getting some games in since we didn’t play much in Chicago. We’ll have to catch some games in the future then. :bgrin:

We should play some at our house tonight, on the Head 2 head thing we have. It’ll be fun. Andrew? Paul? Josh?

Did yall ever have the tourney? Maybe we can work out something…

It got pushed back to this weekend, as far as I know it’s still happening.

Hell yes I will.

For serious though, that’s perfect. Where are you going to stay?

Yeah, I was looking forward to going down to Columbia this summer, but due to school shenanigans, I have to go back to UIUC earlier than I thought.

But any time you’re heading to STL, post in the UIUC thread or something. I have a car, so I might make a road trip home for the weekend.

Uhh I don’t quite have that worked out yet :stuck_out_tongue: I would assume I’m staying with Aaron, but he works crazy hours so…

Since I’m not an MU student anymore, I just kind of have to throw this idea out there and hope someone who can act on it (Tony maybe?) gets interested:

A while ago, we always threw around the idea of starting up a video game club at MU, but it never went anywhere because we were lazy and there used to be many more players at Brady and Gunther’s than there are now so it was less important. Shit is just getting stale, I want – if not new players – a new way to get together and play.

For the uninitiated, I think we need ten signatures and student numbers, and sponsorship from an MU faculty member (my parents count I think, but I don’t know if they’d want to sponsor a video game club). We’d be allowed to reserve classrooms after classes are done for the day, the way the anime club does it is they get some auditorium Saturday and Sunday night for… three hours? Maybe Monique can correct me on that… also, you don’t have to be a student to go to club meetings – actually, you don’t even have to be a student to be a member, but you can’t be an officer.

When Billy and I played around with this idea, the guy we talked to seemed pretty sure that we could get it approved and everything. Unfortunately we ran into some complications with going home and playing #R being more fun than trying to organize the thing. I would be willing to help as much as I can if anybody else is interested in doing this; I’m realistic about the chances of this drawing in new “hardcore” blood for 3S and GG (slim to none) but these games are more fun when it’s not the same four people over and over again, I don’t care if the rest aren’t as serious about it. I think the best way to go would be to run and heavily promote Smash and Mario Kart, and just kind of have the other games there as a side thing…

Anyway am I talking out of my ass here?

edit: Also omg, Speed Moriya is like Toki with Mist Finers…

Andrew, that sounds like a really good Idea, I just don’t want halo players all over the damn place. If it were more fighting game oriented, It would be better. I’d be cool if we just introduced any fighting game, like all 3d fighting games like Soul Calibur, Tekken, DOA, Smash, and anythin else, just to get more of a crowd. We could even have DDR or other music games ( I hear Guitar Freaks is pretty popular, but then I also heard its shit for real music game players). Mario Kart sounds good too. I’ve always thought it would be fun to play Mario party with a bunch of people but thats just me.

Just as long as we have a good sized crowd and its not just me and andrew and 2 other people showing up randomly.

One more thing… I dunno about calling a “video game club” because if we do then peopel will think FPS are allowed and if we let First Person shooters in the club, then I feel like it’ll take over and there’d just be a bunch of people with xbox’s and halo2.

If I’m wrong, or you don’t think what I said is a good idea, just post up. I don’t know much about this whole club thing, but I’d be willing to help with it a lot. Tell us more about it and don’t lose interest in it because if it works out, I think it’d be really cool.

Actually, I had the same concern. Maybe something like “arcade gaming club” would be better, I’m not sure. I mean, the anime club is named “Animeshikanai,” so the University isn’t too picky I think…

It’s a tough call because there’s a lot of spillover between Halo players and casual fighting gamers who at least play 3Ds. Even if we wanted to set Halo up (actually, I have no problem with this except that I have no interest in playing the game myself) it’s a huge hassle – way too much equipment to be lugging around all the time. With the networking they have going on in the dorms, I don’t think we’re actually missing out on much by not running Halo anyway. Anyone disagree? (Paul, do you think you could get Adam’s opinion on that?)

Anyway, you’re probably thinking of Guitar Hero, and I actually had the same thought but didn’t want to express it because I thought people might yell at me. I have a lot of those obscure Bemani games which I don’t really play anymore, I know a lot of the students are into that crap but can’t afford it or don’t have enough room for it in their dorm or whatever. I don’t want to go crazy on those because they really are obscenely loud (the buttons on Pop’n controllers are nuts), but other than that…

Personally, while I don’t think it’s worthwhile to try and run HALO tourneys all the time, most of the ones in town seems to get a fair number of people, even the random scrubby ones they run on campus. Now, whether people would come to a club to play is a lot harder.
I think that if the club thing pans out, it would be wise to maybe run 1 HALO tourney the first time you do a tourney and see if ppl show up

But, I’ll ask Adam and see what he thinks

Personally I’m not even thinking tournaments right now, but maybe that’s just me…

yeah about halfway through my comment I realized that and then tried to cover it up and look like I was looking at both possibilities

Yean, andrew, we’re gonna start that club, and all you mo fo’s in co mo who play any fighting game are gonna be there. Even the guys who play guilty gear every once in a while.

The club should be called " pWnZ0R l33t – 0 // n @ g 3-- "

here’s some dumb, off the top of my head, toss up names
" arcade gaming club “
” joystick haven “
” Street Fighter Club"
" Hadoken club “
” Shoryuken Club"
" Dash up Throw Tech"
" Guilty Street Tekken"
" Super Awesome Friends Forever"
" giglianomifonicon"
" Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday"
" ok, no more joke club names"
" Level 3 super"
" NARUTO PWNS JOO!!! sorry that was the last joke name"
" arcade fighters “
” joystick mashers"
“Button mashers”
“Street Fighter’s not dead yet!”
“Mashers unite”
“Slash,slash,hardslash,slash”
“FRC club”
“Real video games”
“Mashters”
“Arcade ghosts”
“Arcade revival”
“Arcade cure”
“Bringin back arcades club”
“Arcade bliss”
“Arcade stop”
“Arcade uphoria”
“Arcade brawlers”
“Arcade survival mode”

I thought of those as fast as I could so im sure most of em suck, but I like a few of em.

Oh my god, Shekeib, get some sleep or something.

…But I have to admit I like “dash up throw tech.”

Doa4 And Halo2? Yes Plz!

wait…you have an anime club and you didn’t show them GG yet?! :wtf:

couple names

-Club Seal(get it?)
-Los Streeto Fightero(for the exchange students)
-Club skeet skeet!
-Team can we sniff your panties?
-Team “I can’t belive it’s not butter!”:amazed:
-Subway eat fffresh!!!
-Super Halo 2 Turbo

what… you don’t like PWNZOR LEEt OWNAGE?
I heard that shit all the time in WoW, wheneve I played it, thats another reason it sucks monkeydick.

We should use a name thats got the word “arcade” in it so people know a little bit about it. " dash up throw tech" will confuse people. But it is damn cool.

“West coast rushes down, yeah, no doubt,
East coast off screen with Storm till TIME RUN OUT!!”

To my knowledge all of the anime club knows about Guilty Gear. Showing them the game would mean going to one of their meetings or something though, which is the sort of thing for which the phrase “fate worse than death” was coined…

Yeah don’t get me wrong I wasn’t suggesting we actually use the best name ever – it’d be lost on lesser people.

We should put some actual work into the organization and club constitution next time we see each other, which will probably be after the tournament…

Edit: Josh, I don’t know if you can check youtube vids from Columbia College or not, but this Axl combo video has some stuff you might want to check out:

The Volcanic Viper punisher in this vid looks painful… too bad VV always hits.

Well, we use our school club mostly for funding for tournaments. We tried the whole “getting everyone together” thing, but that really just turned into me calling up the usual suspects for games at my place.
