SFIV is pretty fun. I really didn’t like it on Friday when I started playing it (as Aaron can attest to my bitching) but by the end of Saturday the game had grown on me quite a bit. It really plays like a hybrid of ST and 3S, with some new roman cancel effects thrown in. From a character-specific standpoint, Guile plays pretty much like he did in ST, as in I’m almost positive all his normals are the exact same. Boom recovery seems good, flash kick seems to have less priority (but EX makes up for that) both rolling sabat and low forward seem solid. I was beating people all week long by holidng down-back and throwing booms, so that still seems a viable strategy in IV, which is something I was afraid wouldn’t be possible.
Tekken 6 is awesome and needs to be released in wider distribution/on console yesterday. Still don’t like bound, but it gives every (and I mean every) character the chance to do big damage off random launches. Played Kuma, Roger, Paul and Leo and they all have some good stuff in T6. If anyone wants specifics I’ll go into it.
As for Tatsunoko, I only got to play it once and got murdered hella quick. From watching it though, it seems like a VS game with Gear mechanics thrown in. Looks like fun, but I hear you can infinitely DHC so that will need fixing before the final game is released. The SF characters are already really strong, with a lot of Chun being played and some weird Alex glitch being discussed (stun gun headbutt infinite or something).
Yeah there were a whole bunch of issues stemming from players in the finals not showing up on time to no crowd showing up for finals last year, so it wasn’t an official game. However, we did manage to get roughly 80 people for both singles and teams, and it was pretty hype finals, so hopefully Evo staff reconsiders for next year. :bgrin:
yeah but I didn’t get to play it because the line was long and it was going on during GG singles. It looks really good in motion, and while everyone has been bitching about the character designs I thought they looked nice. Sorry I don’t have any more info than that, Aaron might have gotten to play (I can’t remember) so maybe he can tell you more.
Good shit, you guys driving to Se-R? I might think about roadtripping down and riding with ya’ll since I make actual big boy money now. Hollar you guys later, hope you and monique can make it over to STL that weekend im down.
Paul - Have u heard of Yomi? Sirlin’s card game. He was pimping it at Evo. I’ve been examing the character decks and it looks kinda kool? Needs some more balancing before final release, but overall looks fun.
Guile in sf4 does look like ST except for dashing. I’ve seen a lot of blocked sonic to dash throw.
Well, we weren’t an official game so really 3 tvs wasn’t so bad. Honestly, there were about 3 more we technically could have used, but I think there were fears of lag on them.
yeah, people didn’t really try to abuse dashing in SFIV. The pace doesn’t really lend itself to dashing too much to be honest, especially since everyone at Evo was playing shotos and chucking fireballs like madmen.
you down for Gear anytime soon? that goes for anybody else as well.
I didn’t touch it while I was there; actually I completely missed hearing about it until late sunday night when we were helping clean up so I have little to no idea on what it’s like. I’ll have to check it out.
I was in the Osaka ghetto this past weekend (yes Japan has ghettos) so I got to play SFIV. I don’t think it’s too bad. I was beating everybody I played except the two E Hondas who had like AAA versus ranks and were like stupid good. I have no idea which characters are good or anything but SFIV is a kinda unique version of Chun. She can combo EX Lightning Legs off of two low shorts, I have no idea if it’s worth the meter but the damage is okay and the idea of Chun with a chain combo into special is pretty trippy. Boxer seems to have full invincibility on TAP again but it’s slow, if he did it to go through pokes I had enough time to react and super (pretty tough timing though). Chun’s stuff all has really fast recovery time so maybe not everyone else can do it. Abel’s moveset is pretty neat and I might try to learn him.
The Hondas were doing this thing where they’d make you block slappy hands, then do some crouching punch (I think it’s strong but all of Honda’s normals are goofy) into slappy hands over and over again and just command throw you when they thought you’d lock up. It was pretty annoying to deal with.
I think Chun can hit confirm counterhit low forward into ultra. What is their obsession with this… at least you need to counterhit. I was only doing this on the computer and scrubs so it could just be that they weren’t trying to block in between the two for some reason.
I didn’t try any new characters. Naturally.
I think GG is dead here. There’s never any comp in the arcades unless it’s a traditional GG hotspot, but there’ll be comp for other games. I went to a Sega Gigo in Namba and they were playing MVC2 and not GG. I guess AC is just that bad.
Oh, the MVC2 people were scrubs though. I beat them, badly, and they were playing mallscrub teams, so they were absolutely no good.
That’s what’s good. Silver you still only available on weekends? If so, I’ll try to pull something together for this coming one. And Josh, I’ll get at you soon, maybe tonight
Josh: It’s lookin like I got plans tonight so I’ll prolly give you a call fri or sat. on games. Silver I think you pm’d me your number at some point so I’ll probably get at you as well if I’m hosting.
