Both me and SamuelVimes are doing their best to keep this part of SRK alive lol. Cole will never be used competitively in sfxt since he’s ps3 exclusive as said before so almost everyone will ignore him. I do believe Cole and Steve can work well, with Steve you’ll waste meter to do huge damages while you build meter with Cole. Not only that, but Steve can take care of one of Cole’s worst matchup (imo): Sagat since he’s good at dealing with shotos.
Take your team (cole/steve) and go a few times in the training room, do their trials and most importantly play online. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose with Cole/Steve, you’ll get better anyway and that’s the point. At first I was terrible with Julia and almost dropped her for a SF char, but I kept fighting and in the end I’m starting to understand how to play her much better. Tekken chars aren’t as easy as SF chars, but they’re so fun to play as and most of them are great.
Right now I’m playing Cole/Paul, since they are really the only two characters I’ve mastered the basics of and do not forget those basics in the heat of battle. They’re pretty much team bottom tier, but luckily tiers mean little at my level and in similarly ranked opponents. There’s actually some synergy, but not a lot. Cole builds a whole lot of meter, and half of Paul’s ex moves wallbounce for insane damage. Both characters do poor against rushdowns, however, and have few options to tag cancel.
I’d say my best matchups with Cole have been against shotos (I thought that meant Ryu/Ken correct me if wrong), albeit inexperienced ones. Sagat however is a HUGE problem, since his projectiles come out much faster annd has invin frames to close in with.
I’ll make the gem and synergy topics tomorrow to make this place seem more legit. You’d probably be the best man to start off combos, if you felt up with it. Also taking the combos in this section (crediting the users of course).
I’m having the same opinion, my best matchups also have been Ryu and Ken, I don’t have much problems against them most of the time. Characters I have huge problems with would be Kazuya, Heihachi, Abel, Sagat and a rushdown Akuma.
I’m going to record some ranked matchs I just did and then do the combo topic. May as well share every combos I’ve found (found a 535~ damages one with Cole and 3 bars). Wanted to record them but oh well, I’ll do that later.
yea for sure, im more of a casual gamer. im not going to enter any tournaments as far as i know so im thinking of maining cole. i beat infamous 2 right before i got this game and i was looking forward to playing as him. and steve is there no matter what cuz of that hajime no ippo influence. After i take my test i’m going to start labbing with both of them it’d be great if you guys can put up some more vids. hopefully more ppl will join in
I’ll be uploading frequently ranked matches on my youtube channel and putting them on the video topic in case you’re interested. I am also currently working on a Cole combo video and on his combo thread. Good to see another Cole player, welcome on our small boat.
do what u feel is best but combos under 300 are worthless… 200+ damaging combos they we’re strong back in SSF4… But come ON LMAOOO in this game they’re weak… This is sfxt… Execute like it is.
Okay Voltzar is definitely a troll. Moving on anyway.
I’ve uploaded some ranked matchs on youtube, for those interested to study a somewhat decent Cole, I’m typing on iPhone so I will be too lazy to link them, search for the channel on youtube Boodendorf.
In a combo? No reason to use any other hook than HP hook.
While zoning? Yes, LP hook comes out extremely fast, so you can use it to hook on reaction even if the opponent is really close.
Based on seeing where a side of the screen Cole’s LH intersects with the character’s face at the top, there does not seem to be any difference in arc. EX version may have the fastest startup.
Fun Fact: Hwoarang calls Cole Xiaoyu when he tags out.
Lmao it wont be a troll unlesss u fight me for yourself… I’ll show u why I laugh at combos that’s under 300 lol ya better take me seriously ya might learn somethin… But who cares ill keep my info to myself… you would only know if you fight me and see my psn… Iz volzar21 enough said.
I’ll test out the invincibility, I guess record a CPU to continuously divekick me?
Edit: I’m getting moments where the EX will pop (I’ll flash yellow and waste the bar) and immediately afterwards they’ll connect their move and I won’t do any damage to them. I’ve seen even closer times where I’ll flash yellow, they’ll hit me, and they’ll be shocked, but it results in zero damage.
Based on the extended time LH is out for, I do not think invincibility would matter outside this situation?
Side-note: Saw a video online in which a Cole popped Ionic in the corner and while the opponent blocked it, the duration of the move allowed Cole to get a J.HP overhead off and do its standard combo. I guess this could kind of be a thing, but at the expense of two bars and situational corner position (maybe works outside, but doubt it) it does not seem to have any utility besides making up for missed Supers or low-HP opponents in Round 3. Can safely tag cancel on block two into a quick overhead or low depending on guard to kinda combo, but again 3 bars and isn’t it better just to connect with Vortex?
Well that little static makes me eat a good ol’ j.HK in the face :(.
And good to learn about that ionic vortex trick even if it’s situational. It means chip damages and a free jump in against a char with an AA. I do believe we can use this trick by tagging in Cole after Ryu’s EX shoryuken in the corner, you’ll just have to backdash/jump back so that even if he rolls forward he’ll take the tornado and then charge your normal shockwave into a vortex.
