Coffee/Espresso, poison of the gods!

I’ve heard of people roasting the beans with a bit of sugar which gives it a heavy carmel, slightly burnt taste. Never tried it before, since I don’t roast my own beans, but I may if I ever decide to get a roaster.

You know, I’m really not a fan of pressed coffee. I’d actually rather have drip any day.

God dammit. I just poured a cup from a Mr. Coffee purchased from Wal-Mart using generic-brand ground purchased from Wal-Mart and put in some creamer purchased at Wal-Mart, and then I see that setup. I mad now.

Juan Valdez would approve.

I’m getting a boner just thinking about drinking coffee from that setup.

All homo.

If you ever get a chance, try a fresh espresso from a Barista, because while espresso does have an aftertaste, it shouldn’t taste bitter but instead be a nice lingering taste. Also, actual espresso should not be allowed to cool down, when a shot is pulled you’ll see tonnes of crema, that crema is most of the flavor, by letting it sit for too long the crema will just fade away and you’ll just have a bitter tasting shot.

While I haven’t tried drip I’ve heard amazing things about it, not to mention lots of cafe’s have been using it, definitely been thinking about grabbing myself the stuff required for it (and god knows it’s cheap enough). Pour over, press, pot, aeropress all make great cups of joe, but yet all come out differently!

That’s…that’s the best compliment I’ve ever gotten over my setup tear

I love coffee! I’m not to huge on variety though but I admire and love the taste!
lol Folgers  makes your set-up cry!

ya, I love it and have a k-cup thing, I usually just make coffee in there so I can have a lil more POW w/ the “espresso” option.
sometimes i drink coffee blank so I can appreciate the taste
BUT I do love me some coffee mate! haha… I could dirnk that shyt straight!

And hey, Milk Thistle is your friend (helps “heal” liver) a pill

I’ve had them before (In Italy lots of people start the morning off with their little tiny espresso cups) but never developed that keen of an appreciation for it. I genuinely prefer iced Americanos, but it might be a comfort zone thing at this point. Just been doing it for so long I can’t stop, conversely I take my tea a bit more seriously and wouldn’t think of carefully preparing a cup of sencha only to drown it in some ice. Wild times. Also, a cup of iced coffee with an espresso shot added, could I just call this an iced redeye?

French press black coffee = greatness. I don’t love the grains in my coffee, so I just have a wire mesh filter to take care of that. During the weekdays, I get lazy sometimes and just use the coffee maker. I have one that brews “strong” and it makes a pretty decent cup for the effort. I drink coffee black, I don’t need any sugar or cream tainting the black goodness in my cup.

Ah, got yeah, espresso isn’t for everyone as it’s really an acquired taste (much like many of others), I just wasn’t sure if you’ve actually had a well prepared shot in the past. The coffee drinker in me envies you for living in Italy though!

And yeah, I’ve almost gotten into tea (not talking Tetley and the like) on multiple occasions, but it’s hard enough being anal about one drink, let alone two!

LIKE REAL MEN DO.

Come on man have you ever had a good tasting cup of coffee before…

Preground beans, generic ground coffee… come on son… shit don’t even taste like coffee no more… taste like you’re drinking from the green acid pool on mortal kombat…

Man, I wish I had the money to put into a 1000 dollar setup…

I need a cup from that in my life…

Good machines do come at cheaper prices as long as you don’t mind that they are single boiler. Rancilio Silvia + Rocky grinder can be had for around $1,100CAD, around $1,200CAD if you go for the Vario instead (which is a better grinder), and honestly, those are the two of the largest purchases required, the rest can come as cheap or expensive as you want (for example, my sexy Reg Barber tamper cost me around $75, but you can totally rock a $20 tamper).

The biggest thing is trying to justify it. If you’re anything like me I make 2-3 drinks a day just for myself (thank god I live alone, otherwise I have a feeling that would be double), if I look at the closest cafe is Starbucks (ugh), I’m looking at, what? $4-6 a drink? So let say I buy two drinks a day, one in the morning one in the afternoon, five days a week, and average it to $5 a cup. We’re looking at $10 a day, $50 a week, $200 a month, a whopping $2,400 a year!

And as long as you take care of these machines they’ll normally last a good 10 years at least, so a nice long term “investment”!

llama egg, what sort of coffee do you purchase, brand, or from where? sometimes some specialty grocery stores out here have their own brand of coffee that is pretty money, but i still want to know what you are suing cause the quality of the beans themselves matter. also french press is pimptastic and i take my coffee black.

my italian friend brings down some coffee from italy when he goes back to visit and it’s SUPER good.

im outi

I’m partial to Transcend coffee out of Edmonton right now, but that’s partly because it’s only a city away from where I currently live (plus their stuff is quite tasty, which does help), which is super helpful as it normally it get’s roasted then I receive it two days later, so the beans are still super fresh.

The problem with stuff bought out of stores is unless they roast it in-house, or bring in roasted beans in small quantity, you’re paying for stale beans. This means they are already losing flavor by the time you open the bag!

I’m not too well informed about roasters in the USA, but on the top of my head Ecco Caffe, Red Bird Coffee (whom are suppose to have absolutely amazing espresso blends), and Ritual Roasters are a few that I know of.

iirc coffee is the biggest export in the world besides oil, so I’m pretty sure most of us drink coffee.

Then again, based on OP’s setup, there are coffee drinkers, and coffee enthusiasts, of which I am not one.

My wife and I both love coffee. She prefers iced anything, and I love hot coffees. Mochas of any kind, Caramel Macchiato, all are good for me.

In Korea there’s certain bottled cold coffees that I will also drink that aren’t too bad. Still can’t replace a cafe for me, but they’re drinkable when I need a quick fix.

Coffee shops here in China are few and far between. Everyone’s big on tea. They just put in a Starbucks 30 minutes walking distance away, short cab ride. There’s a coffee shop near our apartment that I haven’t tried yet. But funny the title of the thread is what it is, because one of my Chinese friends won’t let his wife drink coffee (who loves the stuff as much as my wife and I) but once every 6 months, stating that “it’s poison, tea is better.”

That stance blew me away.

holy shit…
I love coffee, but that’s nuts!

I always thought it was gross (though maybe looking at this thread they actually might have been…relatively) but just recently actually drank a whole cup of some shitty keurig cup shit. and another the next day. tho I was tired and high unlike the other times I tried coffee.

I never had a problem will all that sweet crap from starbucks/mcdonals/etc. though. (frappaccinos and mochas and shit)

So, basically ya’ll a bunch of caffeine junkies.

Starbucks used to make that stuff. Probably still do. I haven’t seen it in some years. Yeah, it was cold coffee, but it was sooooooooo good.

I can quit any time I want.

On a related note, I just went through like, 3/4 a pot in the last few hours and I’m about to go to bed. THIS WILL NOT GO WELL!

They still do, I just couldn’t find it anywhere in my hometown save for Family Video, overpriced in their snack section. Which I was willing to shell out for when I lived across the street from them. After that, never again.

I could find them in 7-Elevens in Seoul too, but insanely marked up, when the Korean brand cold coffees serve just as well for cheaper.
