Cody Vers. 2012 Changes

so hay guise, how goes that walk speed? what do u think it’s around at? Ken’s level? His forward walk speed was pretty damn noticeable but his backward speed still sucks it seems. Dunno. what do u guys think? Some people even said he might be around fei/guy walk speed now.

Seth was never low tier, if you take a character by their tools then he was always high in the tier lists. I don’t know about you guys or wherever you guys are from but where we are from (UK) we always thought Seth was high tier and the fact that Poongko wins a tournament with Seth and “now he’s high tier” is called evidence that the character, when played at high level, is ridiculous so I don’t see your point in saying that lol.

With Gamerbee, not to take anything away from him, getting top 8 at last years Evo. Nobody knew the Adon matchup and Adon got up like 7 frames earlier which meant Gamerbee didn’t have to deal with any oki game, now that this has been fixed and players know how to deal with Adon he doesn’t get as far with him. Vangief getting top 8 with Gief is more of an achievement IMO.

To point out though, all characters can win a tournament but some characters will have to be played at SUCH a high level, much higher than the higher tier characters, to get further in the tournament and this can be difficult to maintain. That said though, luck also plays a part in how well you do in tournament with a character because we all know that if F.Champ had to face Tokido at SoCal Regionals he probably wouldn’t have won it but he managed to win with Dhalsim, who is a specialist character like Gief and has many bad matchups.

Overall, I think all characters can be played at a level where you can get far or win a tournament with them, that includes Dan, El Fuerte, T.Hawk and Hakan.

that’s what I mean. You’ve to play so much better [involving luck, daily perforemance, right guesses etc] then your opponent to succeed. And to consecutively maintain that, on a pro level, is just beyond the capacity of a player who doesn’t play 24/7. That’s why I say you’ll occassionally see an unfamiliar face in the tops (sakura, bison, rufus etc), but not consecutively in a row. And this get’s even harder for dan or hakan players.

I mean, ofc will momochi win with his cody against other top players like daigo every now and then and people will scream “omg cody is top tier”. but let him face daigo in a first to 100 and reality will become clearly. and THIS is what matters in the end to determine the reliability of a character for the tournament scene.

Where did you get the idea that Adon and Seth were low tier…? Look at their options alone and that should tell you enough.

Anyone seeing anything about the new walk speed? Cause I’m not seeing anything important.

Yes, that’s the point. Any character can win it depends on the player. You people say “Luck” comes into play into the so called lower characters but time and chance happen to ALL characters any time anywhere. Not just the supposed “non tournamnet viable characters.”

And Seth was ranked low tier/mid tier over here in the US and Japan. Not even thought of. And please, let’s not make excuses about people not know ing the matchup with Adon Gamerbee just balls out and continues to be a tough challenge. They knew that during evo and they knew it even more when he won the Regionals over here in Cali with the same Adon character. Not knowing the match-up is not an excuse.

I know that NO character is low tier [it’s on the player] but placed by people on their supposed charts where they rank characters have them so.

By “Luck” I was talking about who you face in the tournament… Obviously luck plays a part in every match but I was talking about who you face off with in the tourney. Like I said in SoCal regionals, where F.Champ won it, if he had to face Tokido’s Akuma he would have had less a chance of winning since that’s a bad matchup but, instead, he got lucky and avoided that matchup.

Adon in Super got out of all pressure for free because his wake up was 7 frames faster, or something stupid like that. I already said “not taking anything from him” but this one factor helped him achieve as much as he did with Super Adon. It’s quite evident seeing as he hasn’t placed amazingly well in tournaments in AE.

I don’t understand why the US and Japan would have him as low tier lol but whatever he’s not low tier anymore.

adon was mid tier as soon as the first tier was made. (and I mean EXACTLY in the very middle)

watch at the 1:11:30 mark (1 hour 11 minutes 30 seconds) and you can see cody in the new location test that happened at nsb. I think it’s very noticeable, even the walking backwards.
*another cody vs chun at 1:35:20
*cody vs cammy 1:37:30
*cody vs sagat 1:40:20
>[on to part 3]
*cody vs sakura 51:50 < this hurt to watch
*cody vs yun 1:23:30 (not worth watching imo
*cody vs sakura 1:56:20 (you can really see the backward speed in the 2nd round, he walks back for a good few seconds in the start)
>[on to part 4]
*cody vs feilong 22:30
Also, can we ignore the people baiting tier talk? who cares… this is the 2012 changes thread…
come on.

I’m not sure how useful anyone is finding this so im gonna stop at this point, hope some of u got something out of it.

is there any footage where he walks for about a second or longer?

I’ve been updating as I go, check the post again  or watch the highlight below

thanks for the work. walkspeed seems to be around guy’s level, maybe even around fei or at best ryu. fair enough.

also from the looks mk ruffian seems not changed much.
current hitbox:

I think the hitbox has slightly moved a bit to the front, but that’s about it.

cody = the best.
hence, the bestest in 2012.

PEACE

yeah i was pretty sad face, u can notice it the most during the honda match

While the mk ruffian hitbox hasn’t changed much, I’m sure it’ll allow new punishes. (specifically vs Honda)

Also, now maybe it’s even easier to make safe.

my guess so far:

Harder (matchup approach needs to be revisited)
Blanka
-Knock Down on HP, EX Beast roll and Ex Up roll.

E.Honda
-Lp Headbutt gets its upper body invincibillity back.

Slightly harder (no gameplan change)
Abel
-Old c.hp is back

Evil Ryu
-50 more health and stun
-Knock Down on ch far s.hp (this happens more often as one would think)
-MK Axe kick after SRK FADC leads to UKD => new setups
-Even more damage on BnB

Gen
-Comboable untechable knock down.

Guy
-New Mix up options
-Better throw range

Juri
-Senpusha FADC xx adds alot more damage / mixup.
-New cl.mp = corner hell

Oni
-50 more health
-Untechable knockdown on ex srk

Remains about the same // neglectable tweaks
Adon
Balrog
Cammy
Dan
Dee Jay
Dhalsim
Dudley
El Fuerte
Gouken
Guile
Hakan
Ibuki
M.Bision
Rose
Rufus
Ryu
Sagat
Sakura
Seth
Hawk
Vega
Zangief

slightly easier (no gameplan change)
Gouki
-Less setups after throw
-overhead can be blocked crouching <> less 50/50 options.

C.Viper
-Less random comeback factor (damage nerf across the board)

Fei Long
-2nd Rekkas way more unsafe
-Less chip damage
-C.mp does less damage
-various small stuff

Ken
-Can’t combo from a s.lp into c.hk anymore

Makoto
-50 less health
-Slight damage nerfs
-Ex Chocke less range

Yang
-Lots of small stuff (s.lk 5f startup, More landing recovery for divekicks, J.mk crossup is harder etc)

Yun
-Lots of small stuff (Target combos nerfed, More recovery on Upkicks, Palms worsened across the board)

While in training mode today, I found that if mp honda headbutt is done at point blank, mk ruffian doesn’t reach to punish, but if you block it from further away, mk ruffian will hit for some reason. Any idea why this happens? If it helps, I think I was standing when I was further away.

Sometimes, you can only punish a move if you block it while standing (at least, this seems the case to me. Correct me if I’m wrong). Why that’s the case, I don’t know.

When you stand with a character your hitbox is thinner, as apposed to crouching where you have a wider hitbox. This means that if you block standing the opponent will recover closer to your character which is why you can only punish MP and HP headbutt if you stand block.

Nice one dommafia! His walk speed is CONSIDERABLY quicker. At Part 3 against Sakura in the 2nd round after he walks back he starts walking forward and it’s VERY quick. I’m looking forward to this new walk speed even more now.

If his forward walkspeed is as good as Sakura/Ibuki or close to their walk speed Cody may be granted with the s.LP stutter step frame trap, which could help him lockdown opponents and push them to the corner quicker.

I wanna know how it compares to other walk speeds now lol.
