STFU you unknowing, ungrateful, little shit.
3f startup means that it’ll trade at least, which is something new to take into account.
that’s way too harsh. technically he’s right - cody’s weakspots remain and other then his walkspeed his gameplay didn’t really improved. while I feel the whole patch is somewhat “off” for most characters, some got mandatory buffs - which means that those characters could jump in the tierlist, resulting in a drop of cody if they surpass him (mathematical speaking). also, nothing wrong about having expectations. I mean, everyone hopes that they tweak something meaningful for their character, which for cody, it hasn’t really. (unless he’s the new flash)
I think Cody will remain where he is aswell, which isn’t bad tho. I liked him in super/ae and I’ll like him in apology edition aswell.
yes Cody’s weak spots do still remain just like every character in the game, you assume his gameplay didn’t really improve based on what? a vid that shows a cody player using almost none of the buffs listed? have you actually played alpha cody ? no so who’s to say most of his changes are worthless or didn’t improve gameplay, knife could be godlike we don’t know.
The low characters that got buffed COULD pass him or stay the same on the tier list but who really cares? if the character isn’t really tourney viable anyway (which is what most of you seem to be thinking) why would it matter if a lower tier character surpassed him, I mean makoto did it I ain’t mad.
that’s way I said “mathematical speaking”. Tier list DOESN’T matter, but it’s still nice to see how a character does fair overall - on a theoretical level. like a speed value in a racegame [I’m a geek, I love numbers :3]. tis is also the reason why honda was “top tier” in super, but didn’t stand his ground in tournaments. having many 7-3,6-4 matchups against unused bottom tier, but 4-6, 3-7 against frequently used tournament characters equals a meaningless top position with low usage in tournaments.
anyway, cody’s buff are simple enough to comprehend them just by reading. beside his walkspeed (which like I said above could matter, if it’s a fair improvement),
the only other change that needs to be tested is mk ruffian. knife is allready good, but like I said a few days ago, they improved its allready strong side, while maintaining the reasons it’s ignored. you gain nothing really new out of it.
Overall he has improved - no arguing - but not by a great degree. I’m statisfied with what he got, it’s just a bit below my expectation (unless his walkspeed is better then it seems so far). I miss something stirring like Honda’s lp headbutt, Rose’s cl.mk, Blanka’s ex ball etc this is the stuff I’d like to see, not some shallow buffs like j.lp +2 activeframes. sure it helps but… does it change anything?
In the current AE his knife isn’t that good, maybe against characters like zangief or abel but its really not that great and IMO doesn’t have a strong side, the changes they made to the knife in alpha make it strong, the problems I have with the knife are pretty much solved, no more opponents lvl 1 focusing all my pokes on reaction (s.mp is now 2 hits), no more or less trading when anti-airing with cr.hp (cr.hp now starts up in 7F), cr.mp doesn’t trade as much which lead to the dropping of the knife(cr.mp has a better hurtbox) and less trading hits in general (walkspeed allows me to control space much better). Don’t know about you guys but the buffs I’m most excited about are the walkspeed and knife.
Even the knife buffs aren’t that good because if you take 1 hit it’s gone, throw tech? gone, focus attack? gone.
Cody’s best buff in the SF4 series is the 3F c.lk, by far.
It’s hard to know how effective changes are going to be no matter how insignificant they seem so think we shouldn’t judge whether it’s useless or not until the game comes out.
Main thing to remember is that a bunch of characters haven’t seen many changes that have vastly improved them overall or their weaknesses.
to be fair, Cody’s only real buff that stuck so far in SF4 is the cr.lk. I’m not complaining at all about that either since I can punish like crazy with it.
I do love the knife, I don’t like the knife dropping off the tiniest hit. But this is capcom, they don’t really buff in the right places to beign with. They dance around most characters real weaknesses and tell you to just “fucking deal”.
Knife was always good. But the knife is really for certain matchups anyway so it does get the job done. Plus free chip damage even if it’s not much, is always a plus.
please tell me how exactly you are losing the knife by that 1 hit, where are you on the screen to be able to lose the knife because ive just stated the situations where you’d lose the knife and how/why its improved by alpha changes, why are you mentioning teching throws ? your not even meant to be that close to your opponent when you have knife, teching throws w/ knife is something you shouldn’t have to worry about in AE2012 since your opponent can’t focus dash to you, your opponent can’t jump on you, what is there to be afraid of other than characters that can change there trajectory in the air. AE2012 Cody w/ knife = defensive chun li w/o backdash. simplified
that’s like saying you’ll never close in against sim, sagat or ryu. you’ll get into close distance sooner or later. can’t be avoided. also, knife c.hp is somewhat similiar to s.hk while losing b.mp. that area is left uncovered.
The thing you’e forgeting is how easy is for most characters to trade with the knife at a mid range, once people get at that range it actually becomes more of a liability since it randomly trades and doesn’t allow you to use most of Cody’s good mid range tools and anti airing tools, the few matches where it doesn’t trade often are usually fairly easy to deal with in the first place.
but how much more easier is it for them to keep you out than you getting in, can be very hard depending on the player, I always use cr.hp w/ knife to cover b.mp anti-air spaces so… I use cr.hp, cr.mk, s.hk and cl.hk while using the knife
what knife normals usually trade at mid range ? for me its been cr.mp and they buffed it so I’m kl, try using knife against fei long and see how much easier it is to whiff punish
Knife is good for sealing a round coz of the chip, or even just the fear of the chip makes people be reckless to get that one hit on you. I mostly use it to troll though, its fun getting Cr.Fierce into low short xx CU.
Cody’s bad backdash always fucks me over, I’ll backdash to bait something out, but because of the bad recovery i’ll get hit anyway
lulz all characters are tourney viable, it simply falls on the player not the character.
untrue, sadly. not judging cody’s abillity, but some chracters are simply not tournament viable, or get countered by frequently used top tier characters that they’ll never stand a chance in the common tournament scene.
e.g: some characters, while being tournament viable on the papers simply aren’t in praxis because they are too risky to use for a constant level. fuerte is a good example. you’ll need too many consequently correct guesses to be successful in a tournament, with a somewhat mathematical low odd of happening.
Cody’s knife has always been a trolling tool, and it will stay that way regardless of the 2012 buffs. Do you really think Capcom would make Cody any stronger after seeing what Cody can do when played at a high level? (see: Momochi)
Nope. Capcom just likes to buff characters to make players play in a more appealing way. For example, buff Ryu’s cl.HK because no one uses that move, or buff Cody’s knife because nobody picks up the knife. Trust me, the knife buffs will NOT make Cody stronger as a character. But it will definitely bring in new players, and it will definitely make you feel like picking up the knife more.
you want a real knife buff? you got it right here: Cody takes 3 hits before he drops the knife. Hit him with 3 Light Attacks, or 2 Mediums, or 1 Heavy, and he will drop the knife. If they gave him this buff, the knife would officially become a core part of his game, without being overpowered. Everything else is BS.
I guess we are gonna have to agree to disagree.
GGGGGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEERRRRBBBBEEEEEEEEEE!!
This is the main reason I try to avoid the knife. People get so jump happy once you have it and they basically jump inside your comfort zone and there’s nothing you can do about it because close standing hk is unreliable due to timing/spacing issues. Capcom, if you’re reading this, let Cody keep his back + mp with the knife.
yeah all those tournaments he won… oh wait. You simply won’t see any Fuerte, Hakan, Gen, Guy, Dan, Blanka etc player in the very top of a major tournament. It’s not because the players who play them aren’t good enough, but that on an equal level the difference of a character matters even more.
On a non-pro level it happens all the time that you can “outplay” any character with any charcter. Even at tournaments you might see sometimes an unusual face, but this is simply very occasionally because what determines a character’s “tournament viability” is his consecutively success rate - mathematical speaking.
but in the end, you’re right about having us disagreeing. I mean it’s not like everyone has to share my opinion… (yet! Ò_Ó! xD)
Yeah, we are gonna have to agee to disagree despite the fact that Gamerbee won a tournament with supposedly low tier Adon and even crushed supposed big time players with top tier characters in his appearences at Evo. proving my point. And just cause you don’t see Dan’s Hakan’s fuerte’s ect at tournament doesn’t mean they are not viable it’s just that the real good players don’t go or show up or can’t. I mean No one catches WILDCAT’s Hakan at tournaments but he is constantly wrecking top players with their supposedley top tier characters.
My, didn’t Pongko go in and wreck with low tier Seth? Oh but wait now Seth will be top tier just cause of Poongko’s performance with Seth. Lol…lolololololol
