Cody Vers. 2012 Changes

yeah I wanted that aswell, but it didn’t got enough voices. the first pipe hit should trigger an animation (like fei’s, chun etc) if he doesn’t hit / or blocked it stops (with the current recovery so it remains unsafe against any standing opponent) but this will make it safe if used as anti air - like rufus’ or seth. as compensation it does a little bit less chip damage.

I would love to see this make it in the game.

I spoke to Flash Metroid this weekend he said Ryan Hunter was very happy with the buffs. Lets hope everything turns out great

If they made zonk a dp motion/come out faster, he’d have to lose upper body invuln for that too not be stupid. ex zonk being able to be used on reaction to from anything is retarded.

Zukuu is right, Cody was suppose to be an all around decent character. Jack of all trades, but master of none. But like he said most of his tools are below average, and the only reason why ppl think hes pure offensive is because of his high damage and stun, which doesn’t justify for arguably one of the worst, if not THE worst defense in the game. Hell, I’ll go on a limb and say he HAS the worst defense in the game.

Even a pure rush down character like Makoto and Yun have better defense than him, which is ridiculous. There’s a reason why he was not given the traits of a pure offensive character and instead were given mediocre to below average tools to be an all around decent character (minus the decent).

The faster walk speed will improve a bit his footsie and throw game to be at the “mediocre” level (at best) but his lack of defense is still there which is making him a non-competitive character. All his below average to mediocre tools in offense does not justify, AT ALL, for the lack of defense. And for all those who say if you can’t play defense you shouldn’t play Cody, screw off rofl… Yes, thanks to playing Cody my defense is very well above average in terms of anti airing, blocking on wake up, teching, and avoiding frame traps, but once you meet those vortex and mix up characters that half-assedly know what they’re doing, see how long your defense lasts against constant 50/50s and other top-offensive tools in an offensive game.

One good thing though is that, if Capcom doesn’t listen to our pleas and better his defense, the theory that there will be a flood of Cody players will shatter even if it does happen because most players, even at the high-level, don’t like to be gone nut on and ultimately don’t like to block in general. I guess at the end of the day, I like how it’s safe to say he is the least scrubby character in the game, as there is nothing to abuse with him and everything he does require yomi to even be considered a decent player.

I say we gather the top Japanese Cody players’ opinions on this and make a thread on capcommuity.

That is up to the player. Timing of EX Zonk, using foward dash correctly, using Cody’s great pokes to keep em out is even possible and even EX criminal upper with the correct distance is good for getting people off. Even Cody’s Ghetto slide [C.MK] is good for escaping a “vortex” and cross-ups, timed right!

I’ve always thought of Cody’s design philosophy to be a lopsided version of Ryu. Both characters share the same general tools you need to overcome the majority of match ups such as anti airs, reversals, frametraps, projectile etc however Cody’s tools are slightly less effective at getting the job done since they usually require more precise timing and tend to be more punishable. Capcom also gave Cody more than average damage and stun(more so than Ryu) but provided him with a terrible defense which is an area that Ryu is proficient in.

I think with the addition of a slightly more reliable defensive option(a more reliable reversal or better back dash) Cody’s design would make more sense since he would at least have a slightly below average defense instead of terrible one to go along with his good damage/stun and fairly mediocre move set, which I personally think would justify his design more.

That’s only if the vortex/cross-up was poorly timed. Otherwise, you WILL get hit /grabbed if you don’t attempt to block.

Depends on actually reading/recognizing the crossup/vortex. You can block or escape using forward dash and C.MK.

Bingo becoming an srk motion is a terrible idea, i would drop Cody instantly if that ever happens.

Seems like a bit of a silly reason to drop a characters but I do agree it would be pointless and actually make it less effective in some situations.

better ex ruff, ex cu, backdash. At least 2 of these and remove all knife “buffs” … im down.

Those of you that are questioning the usefulness of Bingo and requesting changes to it need only watch Sasaki. The move is fine. Improving our speed and / or backdash should be the primary focus with EX CU and RUFF being a lesser needed but still reasonable request.
