Butt slam is godlike.
This whole “crossup / non-crossup” mix-up after a forward seems to be heavily character specific too. On characters with big hitboxes, such as Boxer, I could land the j.HP crossup quite easily, and on characters with small hitboxes, e.g. Sakura, it didn’t work at all. In fact, Sakura can c.HP your ass if you try it. I need to make time to test this whole shit thoroughly…
Before I go, here’s a nice setup vs Guile after a forward throw: walk a little bit, do a j.MK and OS a HK Ruffian. The j.MK will crossup and stuff non EX flash kicks, the HK Ruffian will punish the EX one and the Backdash. If Guile tries to focus dash out of your attack, your combo will hit him. Once you conditionned the player to just block, you can swap the j.Mk with a j.HK, making it vulnerable to flash kicks but non-crossup. The timing is really easy on this one, and it can lead to big damage combos.
Safe LK-Ruffian Setup:
Forward Throw, back dash (as soon as possible), lk ruffian.
- hits opponent in his first 1st or 2nd frame after standing up, so he can’t jump away and it’ll stuff every normal and most specials (taken out lower body invincible startup moves like srk, ex headbutt, ultras or some supers etc)
- my tests resulted that it leaves you at -2 on block with a little spacing (out of normal throw reach). so it’s safe against the whole cast but zangief and t.hawk (except some 2 frame startup supers)
anyone more setups for any stuff? (lk ruffian, safe jumps, safe empty jumps, crossups etc)
Probably not a new setup to most but meaty lp rock into lk ruffian is a good frametrap for people who are anxious to jump out of your pressure/spacing. Works well after a criminal upper if they tech. Also if people are tech-happy after criminal upper I like to jump forward for a meaty jump jab into a throw.
Rather than a reset off of hk ruffian fadc, you can also do FADC crack kick (f.rh), take a step backwards then jump forward for an ambiguous crossup setup if they’re tech happy. I use the step back to confirm if they’re teching, and if not I wobble back and forth between crossup/noncrossup range and go for it anyway. Maybe the buttslam could be implemented here since I’ve been using j.mk.
