I sketched this out as a design for my Tekken 6 arcade stick. Ran into a problem though, I’m having a really hard time coloring it with GIMP. I’ve watched some tutorials, tried my hand, and am feeling pretty defeated. Could someone color this up for me? I wouldn’t be opposed to buying whoever did a month of premium or something.
Critique on the art itself is welcome too, I know I’m not the best artist around here, but I wanted to have my own drawing on my Stick. (wanted my own coloring too, but… I guess I suck at digital photo manipulation)
I’ll take a crack at this for you, I suppose it depends on what you want done though. If you want an art critique along side of that or if you just want some coaching to help you through completing it yourself. If you’re wanting to become a better artist the best way is to just get after it with a little guidance.
I would love some help in figuring it out. I’m still working on coloring it, but it’s slow going. I thought I’d put the post up in case I cant get it done right, or at the very least to use as an example. when I’m done coloring as best I can, I’ll post, and maybe you could give me some pointers.
Sorry to seem like I’m spamming but I wanted to show my progress. I’ve literally been at this for hours, and this is what I have so far. There has got to be a better way.
if you want your own art as a good lookn template.
my opinion,
With ur pict i would focus on strengthening your silouettes, (they are pretty close) and do a negative type thing, maybe characters in light and background in dark ,or in reverse… with a fade or blend type of thing.
kinda like a “graffic” vibe, just my 2 cents
Well, I separated each character onto their own layer, for starters. This lets you work entirely without space restriction. Of course your image is scanned and you wouldn’t have been able to do that on paper. I find it helps to draw them individually, or at least have your layout planned in advance. This is a quick and dirty sagat here, but you can probably see I beefed him up quite a bit. Sagat is very tall and has very long limbs, so make sure to exaggerate his form a bit there. Without going into specific anatomy details, the human form looks better when it is elongated anyway. A good rule of thumb is to draw the upper arm to at least below the ribcage, the forearm to the wrist right around crotch level, and the hand from the wrist to the outstretched fingers go to about mid thigh.
Now that I think about it,on mine his head is a little small now…
The layout is basically a straight rip off of the tekken six stick, the buttons and stick will end up covering some of the artwork, but not the important parts. Sagat has such big shoulders and chest though boss, I don’t think your head looks small. For a different charachter yeah, but it looks fine on sagat imo.
Well, the nice thing about digital art is it can be manipulated into place without having to erase and redraw. I’m not terribly concerned about proportion for this particular instance. Gedn hit the nail on the head when he suggested working with forms. Don’t be afraid to use solid colors on top of your pencil lines.
