To be fair you gotta remember EX Ruffian causes Hard knockdowns. To give Cody an almost full screen, fast, projectile immune and at a distance pretty safe move that also causes hard knockdowns isn’t something to take lightly.

Make Cody only drop the knife on knockdown/crumple, or when he does a throw/focus and I’d be such a happy camper. Dropping the knife because of an errant jab is really annoying.
Yeah, but the fact that ex ruffian has some projectile invincibility on it already makes it seem like it WAS the developers’ intent to make it able to beat fireballs at a certain distance, you just had to have good timing.
However, the timing on it is so stupid that, in practice, it essentially turns out to be a guessing game, even if you know it’s coming. It’s a lot like Gief’s regular green hand’s projectile nullification hit box, but not quite THAT horrible/useless. Same concept though, I think, and both of these things could use fixing so that players can actually use them for their intended purpose.

-EX Ruffian with projectile invul
-Forward Hk is now airborne and hits crouchers
-More frame advantage on blocked HP rocks. K
-Less start up on his fake rocks
-Crouching mk can go under fireballs… Well more reliable to use
-Faster startup on ex rocks. So we can expect combos from Hp
I also expect cody to get nerfs. If any nerfs are given to him, it will be a damage nerf.
I do want his forward HK and Ex ruffian buffs though. That will solve the gief matchup.
I’m hoping to get the following:
- EX Criminal Upper invinc. until active frames (god please ^^)
- EX Ruffian Kick fully invincible on startup to projectiles
- Perhaps better backdash und airbourne f.HK
- Little damage/stun nerf, should still be ok then
I think the best thing to do would be to increase the window for the projectile invincibility on ex ruffian but not necessarily make it fully projectile invincible.If it was fully projectile invincible then they would either have to make it not a hard knockdown or shorten its range slightly.
I actually really like this idea off this, seems a lot better than what I suggested.Although I would still say he shouldn’t drop it after teching a throw and that the stun output be reduced slightly.
Yet Ibuki and Hakan get near full screen EX projectile invincibility moves with hard knockdowns and their great knockdown guessing game. Yes. Makes much sense.
Well for one they are both horribly unsafe from any distance. Also Ibuki is a vortex character and Hakan is just… well the poor guy’s a mess. I think wanting a hard knock down and full projectile invincibility is greedy, like okay give it full projectile invincibility but have it soft knockdown then.
I don’t get it it’s not like Cody even loses hard to zoning games he still rocks, lp.CU, Zonk, and Focus with a good forward dash.

Agree that teching shouldn’t make you drop it, but I think dropping if Cody actually throws the opponent would be fine.
I wouldn’t even care if it’s a soft knockdown. Just give that shit full projectile invincibility on the startup. Granted I don’t see the big deal considering EX ruffian outside of Forward Ruffian is the only actual safe one. (and you still have to space it right)
And we’re talking if we see the punish oppurtunity. So ibuki/Hakan seeing the fireball to punish from mid screen with their EX move still get to punish without being psychic. Cody on the other hand can see the punish from mid screen, do EX ruffian, and get punished for what you were supposed to punish majority of the time.

This is all he needs. I’d like his damage/stun to stay the same though, but a slight reduction is a fair price for the buffs.
Bingo is great. But when I have meter from mid range that I know I’ll get punished for Bingo? I want EX ruffian for that guaranteed way in.

I can see why you would want the ex ruffian to be invincible on startup but at the same time you have to look at cody’s wake up game which is what he struggles with the most in my opinion. Like yes it would be nice to have invincibility on startup for ex ruffian but u can get used to the timing on various characters and he is already a very strong character in AE. Therefore, I’d say a better backdash is the priority and maybe being able to use criminal upper as more of a shoryuken move by allowing it to hit more normals and stuff.
I’m personally fine on wakeup since I just…block? I do admit his backdash is ass. I don’t really care if they change it or not.

You can, but as it stands getting the timing right comes at the cost of shutting down some of your offensive game. You have to do it so early that you can only do it on reaction if you’re pretty much neutral, since if you’re in the middle of any attack besides a jab or short when you see the fireball coming, you’re already too late. And if you can get it out to get through the fireball in time in that situation, you’re probably too far to connect.
