Hey all,
I recently revived my old TE stick with a Brook UFB and Phoenix’s custom front panel PCB. With this minor experience I’m now interested in building a full custom box.
I notice a lot of great builds but a lack of CNC or laser cutting files. Is anyone willing to share theirs? I know there are button layout templates but looking for more detailed full CNC or lasercut build. Specifically, advance panel mounting layering design (http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/mounting_layering.html).
Thanks in advance!
I would say that it’s unlikely that people will share their CNC or laser cutting files; those take a specific set of software and skillset to put together, and chances are that anyone who has that experience would be offering to sell casings (ie, like Tek-Innovations).
Basically, the way I see it:
- Using a CNC/laser-cutting method is not economical/practical (in terms of a combination of cost, effort, software, skills) for a one-off personal case;
- Using a CNC/laser-cutting method IS effective for mass-producing cases.
The people who would likely be sharing these files/designs would be in category 1, but there is likely very few, if any, going around.
The people who for sure would have files like these are in category 2, but they likely run their own business for custom cases.
My recommendation?
Get access to CAD software and get it done yourself (and by “yourself”, I also include anyone that you can pull a personal favor from: family, friend, neighbor, colleague, etc).
It’ll probably be the most effective and least headache to get exactly what you want anyways.
Thanks for the reply. Makes sense that people that put effort and want to cash out. I guess I’m surprised not more people laser cut their own personal one-off makes.
I have access to laser cutters and CNC and use CAD and 3D softwared as part of my job. I wouldn’t mind making the files and providing it for people but I don’t have the time to figure out the dimensions and design, especially something more advance (a CAD file for 9 holes on a top plate would be easy). I’m very new to fight sticks in general and still trying to learn all the parts.
I will just try to do a simple box with basic holes to start so I can just use a stick … I’ll put the full design as one my late 2018 goal.
Awesome. Look forward to seeing your progress and journey.
And good call on taking small steps. No better way to learn and improve.
There are some stl files up on thingiverse, might be helpful. I am guessing a lot more people have 3d printers than cnc machines:
