Cleaning Your Arcade sticks- How?

So what do you use to clean your arcade stick every now and then?

Like for example, lets say you’ve just had a few friends over and your not sure what they did prior to playing with your controls(dirty hands, etc), and you’d like to clean up your stick a bit after.

How would YOU clean your stick? Just wipe the controls down with a mildly wet towel and then dry? Wipe with rubbing alcohol? etc.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

windex and paper towel.

If the buttons stick, toothpick with rubbing alcohol on it to run on the sides of the buttons.

alcohol and towels is the way I do it. The toothpick idea ain’t bad.

Windex, as in spraying it all over the plexi&controls, then wiping off?

You won’t run the risk of messing up something electrical that way?
(shorting out a wire connection, etc)

Alcohol, like some of those lil’alcohol towel wipes in the box? What kind do you use?

Or do you just mean, rubbing alcohol w/towel?

rubbing alcohol and those small towel wipes in a box are basically the same thing. IT really doesn’t matter. You can use water too if you want.

the risk of shorting something else is very minimal, and even if something does get shorted out, the chance of something breaking because of that is even smaller. When they say water and electricity don’t mix, they usually mean for things like hair dryers that run off 120 VAC capable of providing tons of amps as opposed to… your tiny PCB. Anyways, most of the windex evaporates before it gets in. so don’t worry about it.

edit: in short, rust is a much greater concern than messing up the electronics.

I see. Naa rust would not be an issue, mostly stuff is either wood or plastic in a stick usually(same for mine).

K Thanks!

Windex sprayed on paper towel.

Alcohol and paper towels. Nothing against windex and paper towels (windex is almost the same as alcohol), but around here alcohol is $.78 a bottle. And you can clean your windows with it.

I just usually have windex around, so I use that.

Even water would work better than just a paper towel, but alcohol or windex gets anything sticky off.

I just use a water spray bottle and wipe with paper towel.

Isopropyl alcohol, 90% purity or greater. The higher the acohol content, the greater the evaporitive properties. It also kills bacteria, and with assured evaporation, it is completely safe with electronics (even cleaning terminals, connectors, and such). It’s cheap at the grocery store and dirt cheap at Wal-Marts, Targets and other commercial institutions.

now we’re talking :).

I used rubbing alcohol w/ Q-tips and paper towel for the stick and buttons, and glasses lens cleaner for the plexi. Windex probably would’ve worked better though.

Spiritus Fortior, in my case that is 96% alcohol on a tissue.
I used to use alcohol wipes but that was getting expensive.

Actually I am worse, I let people rinse their hands in Sterillium.

Not when you can ge tthe wipes outta a first aid kit at work or school. I findem handy for cleaning my psp too. These lil things are free from chevron and kentucky fried chicked also.

Taking stuff from others is not my thing.
While alcohol wipes are really handy I find alcohol in a bottle more versatile. Alcoholyzing cotton buds for example.

What do people do when a sanwa stick gets too sticky and sluggish?

Take the whole stick apart, wash the parts with soapy water (or preferably something stronger than soap), grease (just use vaseline, it’s good enough) and reassemble.

I hardly find taking one lil wipe is taking from others.

Have you guys seen the alcohol wipes for computer keyboards? Those work the best.
