Clean execution

Is there a game that requires you to have really good execution without any shortcuts games like SF4 have? I’ve started fighting games seriously in the MvC series, XvSF in particular, about 5-6 years and I feel like my execution under pressure is terrible because of it because that game was all about getting the first infinite IMO.

I just want a game with a decent active scene where I can practice execution under pressure and just learn fighting games in general.

Super Turbo.

Playing KoF13 seriously improved my execution. The game does have shortcuts and buffered inputs, but even then the speed required to execute combos will make you better. Supposedly it’s even easier than the older KoFs though, so you might consider trying to out in Fightcade or something. If you’re looking for an active online scene with good netcode, then Fightcade all the way. But many local FGCs are into KoF13 as well, so you might see what you have going on locally.

I recommend UNIEL, the execution level is pretty low relatively speaking but you need to have very clean execution (for example it’s not as obvious as it seems to dash forward and then throw a fireball, you tend to get a DP if you’re not careful).

That said, Super Turbo is undoubtely the perfect game for execution. 3S is decently good as well, though for me at least the input buffering is far different than any other game. I list these games because 3S and ST are basically my local scene.

also try Ultimate Marval Vs Capcom 3. no shortcuts for srks, and always tons of people online playing it

Any fighting game that wasn’t made by post-SF4 Capcom, really.

Hmm, yeah, I’ve been playing older SNK games and it’s hard as hell for me.

Guilty Gear Xrd. Big community, great tutorials, and perfect levels of execution. The game revolves around pressure and execution. You have to actually time reversals(2 frame window) and no shortcuts.

ST is 1 frame reversals. Meaty attacks are also not as powerful since they can be 0 frame thrown, lol. Timing on both of those is important since if you mess up a throw on wake up, you’ll eat a meaty which means big damage in that game. Mess up a reversal, you’re eating big damage. Rounds last like 10 seconds in that game, lol.

1 frame reversal windows also mean that you’ll want to learn to double-tap ASAP which really helps in every game.
SNK games don’t have negative edge for their special inputs, but IIRC you can hold the button down in case you want a reversal (the game will repeat the input for a few frames).
CookieSoup’s got it TBH

it also depends on your scene. No use spending money on a game no one will play with you.
