What fighting games are considered the classics of a series? For example, many consider SamSho2 to be the classic in the series. I’m sure more people play 5 right now, but any of those guys who play 5 would probably be down for a session of 2. For SF2, it would be a toss up between HF and ST. Tekken it would be TTT or possibly T3. KOF would be KOF98. Any others? In particular I’m interested in Guilty Gear. I have no idea about that one, but my guess would be GGXX#R?
I’m interested in this since fighting games don’t seem to really be moving forward. Has Capcom produced anything decent after MVC2? I see this trend back to “old school” fighters especially with GGPO / jap netplay of GG#R on PC / etc. Unless SF4 is really really good, i think it’s over for Capcom in terms of being the leader of 2d fighters

do people really consider groove on fight a classic? this has to be a personal preference no?
not that its really bad I’ve only put like 20 mins into the saturn version YEARS ago…Just surprising to see that in a list of other games I would agree are classics
Bushido Blade was fun. someone needs to make a spiritual sequel but without the gay ass shit like running away for 20 minutes, no killing people when they turn their back to you in the middle of a fight, etc. They should still keep the monty python black knight stuff as that was hilarious. They should also add in all the awesome bullshit from samurai movies (Yojimbo, Lone Wolf and Cub, Zatoichi) and selected manga (gritty, realistic Lone Wolf and Cub/Lady Snowblood kind of stuff, not shitty ass magic headband naruto samurai pizza ninjas of great power justice shit.)
