Chun Li vs. Yun

Ack, any suggestions on this matchup.
I think Ken has a better chance against Yun.

Never seen a really good chun vs. a really good yun before. just wondering what the chun player can do. I know yun is just constant combo almost.

Chun Li

NOBODY dominates chun li. At best, yun may have a slight advantage.

Yun Vs Chun-Li = 6/4 for Yun

solution for opponent spamming dive kicks, last tournament i beat my friend 4-0 in the finals, my chun vs his yun, every time he dive kicked, i parried and did s. fk (the close s. fk came out), stuffed him everytime

That sends poor yun flipping backwards, then he has to block low immediately or get c. mk SA2 of death, so you have wide open mixup opportunity with her kara throw of doom or UOH SA2 which seems to be a relatively easy link as of lately

I’m definitely no expert at chun and my opponent is not an expert with yun, but he can hit SA3 combos everytime, but when he runs and spams c. mp to build meter

should i…

a) b+fp and whore meter?
b) jump in on him cuz yun has no real anti air?
c) throw a fireball and dash after it?
d) pace back and forth and move towards him?

this match up is boring as hell, run all day, spam meter, if he gets me, he juggles me for 20 minutes

icege has a beasty yun, be on the look out for him soon

Re: Chun Li

yun runs circles around chun li

I personally play as chun-li. Recently I had a nice match against a very skilled yun player in the local arcade and I noticed the strat that seems to work is making your opponent think you’re playing a very upward game, meaning high and over head hits. When the other player least expects it, ie. geni jin power up, sneak in a crouching medium kick and fire off SA2.

Another nice strat if you have 2 SA2 special stocks is nailing the SA2, super jump, down medium kick x2, then once the other player lands, dash twords them like a mad man. once they’re about to wake up and get on their feet, throw in a quick crouching medium kick and do SA2 again. I’m supprised on how well that strat works. I assume the other player thinks you’re volunerable due to the dashing. Make sure you time the dashes right so you finish the dash right before the other player wakes up. Of course you can only do the hops in the air on a select few. mmmhmm

Learn how to punish mid-screen Genei Jin activations with SA2. Yun players tend to activate at the same times, e.g. after a whiffed dive kick, after a jump/dash back, after a cr. strong, etc. Look for those patterns and when you suspect your opponent is going to activate mid-screen, start pumping qcf motions and when your opponent does activate, perform qcf + K to make sure you get the full super motion. You’ll hit Yun before he recovers from GJ activation, meaning he’ll take a shitload of damage, lose his meter and most likely end up in the corner. So learn it!

Don’t spam back fierce all day against Yun, it’s a losing battle because GJ charges twice as fast and Yun won’t give you many chances to land SA2. Jumping in on Yun is a bad idea also, he does have decent anti-airs such as walk under, st. forward XX GJ or toward fierce.

Try jumping straight up roundhouse to stuff dive kicks. Parry dive kicks into jab, dash under, st. roundhouse super is also good. Don’t try to parry dive kicks to often though, you’ll get baited.

When Yun spams cr. strong, counter with st. fierce or dash in, cr. forward super. Be careful because Yun’s cr. forward will beat st. fierce and go under toward roundhouse.

This is one of the few match-ups where Chun-Li needs to attack or she’ll die: Yun has a natural meter advantage. Try staying close to Yun most of the time because the only threat you have is SA2 combos, and Yun’s repeated dive kicks allow him to attack with little fear of retaliation. But if you can knock Yun down, all it takes is one SA2 combo and a couple of throws to win the round.

excellent advice BillyKane, thanks!

would you mind wandering over to my chun li vs urien thread…urien gives my chun fits and a urien player has eliminated me in the past 3 tournaments:mad:

watch for the jump in toe press, whenever he does it swat em with a standing forward. spam the crouching forward as well for when he decides to do that roll. just watch him closely, if you see the very tiny startup of the lunge punch prepare your Fierce or Back+fierce. If you hit with any of these just play games with him, run in hit him with a fierce or a combo then book it. This is basic Yun tactic as well so keep that in mind. Its all about catching him out of his offence and quickly punnishing him with a Fierce or 2 if possible and a super if hes slow. Most good Yun players wont be slow though. Good luck man Yun is one tough cookie.
