Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

I enjoyed the Akuma vs Chun-Li matches. I feel like both players have to stay sharp and play smart in that match-up to win. Dr Chaos seems really good with all the shoto’s, that air-tatsu crossup into super with Ryu was really nice.

Glad you enjoyed, Thunder. Chaos is nice, I rarely get anyone as good to record matches with.

There are some funny videos where I attempt to lame him out with Balrog, but he wrecks my shit completely . He played really good in those matches, though. But I won’t post here, just to keep it Chun-only .

Chun Li vs Ken: That first match was really well played. Hilarious how Dr. Chaos tried to run the clock with ultra but failed  The second game was just ex tatsus all around. Chun Li takes too much damage from those. Dr. Chaos likes burning that meter lol.

Chun Li vs Akuma: Very good matches. I feel like EX sbk is near useless in this matchup because of his divekick demon flip. The funny part of those matches were when you did dash ex legs and they only did one hit to his focus attacks . Also that anti-air demon did soooooooo much on Chun. That was just ridiculous. Dr. Chaos should’ve grabbed more with Akuma though.

Chun Li vs Ryu: Dr. Chao’s Ryu looks like the weakest out of his shotos. Pretty standard Ryu play. That c.mp tick throw is too gdlk for Ryu. It was hilarious when you got hit by three low forwards and the last one connected into an ex shoryu.

Good matches

I was taking a closer look at the Akuma matches from MM, and I noticed a few things which I want to adopt myself. Blockstrings overall were really good, one which stood out to me was where you’d end a string with s.mp (blocked) and then do a s.hk. I don’t use Chun’s roundhouse very much outside of punishing neutral jumps in the corner or against Zangief; It seems like a good alternative for dash-up pressure, or ending the string with kikouken, or doing nothing.

Also, using j.rh as an instant overhead on his wake-up. I always take a long time to adapt to Akuma players that go for the reversal teleport on wake-up. I find I have to mess with spacing and guess which way they will tele in the hope they misjudge and teleport to where I’m waiting with a cr.short bnb. The problem with that is the lack of damage option there. Seems like jump away rh gives you the meaty and the spacing to catch him at the end of the teleport too. Actually, I’m beginning to think I don’t use instant overheads at all enough.

lol that ultra time burner was complete lewlpewl. It’s not as long as Akuma/Balrog or others, so I’m sure he learned.

Those EX shooting stars do hurt . If she doesn’t catch with a st.forward or neutral jump roundhouse (sometimes even loses) then she can be eating some combos.

It is kind of useless. I’ve hit with it consistently for a few times, but the timing is extremely strict, and they can slow/speed up their dive kick timing. So it’s definitely not worth it.

The only real way to catch demon flips is to walk under, or air throw him. Sometimes double fierce works, I did it once out of instinct. But, if he locks it with a fireball before, like his throw setup…then it’s inescapable and you have to take the 50/50. Also, it’s hard to look for it in strings if they aren’t predictable…because if you hold forward and guess wrong, that’s another combo. So it can be hard to see in strings against good players. I would back dash there if it was too late, but I’m not sure how effective it is.

He didn’t play Ryu as much…but he’s solid. I do think he should zone more, and uppercut me ST style much more. Hard online, though.

:china:

Yeah that’s the Nemo. Spam that neutral game mix up lol…it works against Akuma since they get pretty jumpy. His walk speed + sweep is a bitch for Chun to handle though. I posted the full list of mix ups in the block strings thread.

Yeah I usually catch the regular Akuma player with that. But he started using kick teleports and nullifying my plans lol. I use the flip kick into back dash (dashes towards him) for the other way, if I think he will go there.

Wow mag your dash legs are the nicest of any Chun I’ve seen. I dont even think nemo is up on that. Good shit.

P. Cola Sower(???) has an interesting anti-air choice at the beginning of the second round. Dash under 2nd hit j.fp ftw?

He(she?) also executes a nice fake empty jump by waiting until the very last second to go for j.lk
Makes you wonder why he didn’t just j.fpx2 though.

He plays a good Chewnies, shit just happens and he got caught…hurts against someone like k00m.

For your question…you can see this a few times. His anti air preference is just jumping at them and getting the attack out ASAP. It would have been a single fierce but it seems like he was pressing for it so hard that he got the 2nd one. He ended the round with jumping at him with roundhouse, which is a great anti air as well as jumping away with roundhouse (anti air).

What could have gave him the upper hand was probably poking more, and not being afraid of Akuma’s focus, Easier said than done, though. The Akuma was applying pressure from the air, so it can be hard. At that point…Chun might just want to walk under or away from the pressure.

I decided to check GameChariot for videos today (hadn’t been to their site in a while) and they have some new ones up.

Nemo is in some of the videos, partnered with Mago. Nemo vs Nami (Sagat) is great if you want to see the df+HK ambiguous crossup in action.

For those that don’t want to navigate through the japanese, here: Movie page. Just click the link to the right of the game you want.

Thanks for the notification, though, I believe they were already on youtube and posted on here. Are they different? If so, time to dig in!

Whoops, must’ve missed Crystalis’ post a page back. So yeah, they’re on Youtube, but the site’s there for anybody to look at whenever they update.

I like this Chun player, very clean.

^ I didnt know you could punish Dictator’s blocked Ultra with Ex Legs

Allso why do a lot of Chuns whiff st.lp in between kikokens from full screen?

I think jab is whiffed as a fake out for people looking for a FB so when they do throw it, it won’t be as expected/harder to react to. Not the most complex/effective mindgame but it can fuck with your opponent and make them lose a little patience. Also it catches torpedo/human projectile like moves.

French commentary is so hype!

Got this from Dae.

DJ B 13 combo video.

The very last combo is the same as the 31-hit combo I’m talking about in my sig lol.

really cool vid.

Whiffing jab also allows you to keep charge without moving backwards or having to crouch.

Not to be a piece of shit, but the best thing about this video was the effects and intro, I loved it.

You guys may wanna skip to the last minute of the video, or else it may as well be labeled “how to punish with Chun: Day 1”

…Ok I’m a piece of shit

/being a piece of shit.

Well I think most of us know the bread and butter combos already. But yes the effects and intro were very nice.

Some of my very own Chun Li stuff :3
