what do you guys think about exploiting some possibilites with her crossing up lk spinning bird kick?
here i did ultra…thankfully my opponent was yun…and yuns, yangs, makotos, ibukis love to hit lkl lp buttons at all times. i dont think i woulda tried on a shoto…
well anyway.
what do you guys think about using lk spin bird kick on your opponent’s knock down as a cross up mix up?

not a good idea imo

but if it hit why not

well its not like you haveta do u2 after the cross up sbk.
any mix up after crossing up is my point.
most people dont expect bird kick to cross up like that.
hell…most people dont see bird period. let alone, react to it crossing up like that.

Its funny you posted that vid cos I saw a replay of momo’s earlier today where he used lk bird after a knockdown. He did head stompsx3, lk bird to go to the other side of the opponent and then df hk to cross up again. The guy he was playing against was by no means the greatest but he seemed mindfucked and it def worked on him.

I doubt it’s something you’d want to use on the regular though.

I don’t really see what you gain from it? To me it doesn’t look ambiguous at all and aren’t you taking away your own charge by doing it, I guess it might set up a meaty or something and tbh I would never see the advantage of putting myself in the corner as you did and let the other person out (and Yun! gotta be like the worst character to corner yourself against).

Maybe I’m missing the point and it is a mix up and I honestly welcome any new twist, set ups or tech Chun has I just don’t see this being something that is going to benefit my game or help me but that’s just my opinion and I do think I’ll look at SBK as it might have a gimmick use or two that people don’t use currently. Also my new worst match up experience wise is Dee Jay ha, you know when you play random players and you do well Vs that character and you know a few bits of tech for that character so you assume you know the match up? Think for example all the Ryu’s you’ve fought and beat then think if having played them would mean you could beat like Daigo? Probably not, yet people (myself included) take the fact they beat peoples characters often as knowing the match up rather than the more likely idea that the other person isn’t great or doesn’t know their character all that well or doesn’t know the match up.

Well lets just say I Don’t know the Dee Jay match up :frowning: still I friended the dude and learnt a LOT about the fight (on top of the basic match up stuff like “x” is unsafe on block or “y” loses to cr.mp etc…) just made me think, how many match ups do I really know playing in Europe, I mean REALLY know?

Hmmm (and I got tourney’s to get ready for as well blah)

A risky gimmick with lk sbk is using it in situation where your opponent uses some sort of jumping move meant to bait EX SBK after a knockdown. They get hit by the back part of her leg while they’re still in the air or Chun will just escape the pressure because she’s moving away and they don’t react before she recovers. Like I said, risky gimmick and I don’t use it that often, but it has worked a lot of the times I went for it and nobody expects it.

Ever since they removed the infinite, lk SBK doesn’t get much use at all (to be fair neither does hk SBK because the buff that allows you to combo from st. HP is not really worth it imo)

^Oh yeah, I’ve used lk sbk as a ghetto anti air that way, a few times.

Though normal SBK really isn’t worth it unless it’s enough damage to kill

Thing with deejay online is you’ll only face maybe 1 or 2 a month, but the ones I do go against 99% of the time are complete beasts and always seem to be ranked in the top 20 with him. My unfamiliarity combined with going up against players that know him inside out make the whole thing painful :frowning:

I got raped by the number 16 deejay only yesterday - the salts still fresh lol.

lol i do not understand why ppl have a hard time against DJ

luckily for me i have played DJ since ST and in my local scene there´s only 2 DJ players myself and a friend lol.

to me DJ vs chun is 5-5.

I can def see it being even. I just don’t know the matchup at all. Problem with playing online 99% of the time is you only face about a third of the cast regularly.

I get blown up by characters like guy, gen, even hawks because I never get to face decent ones unless its the once a month random ranked match - I don’t know if the game just has too many characters or the player base just isn’t varied enough in its selections. Ryu, ken, akuma, cammy everywhere. And loads of onis n goukens the last few weeks for some reason… It gets tiresome. I don’t like having such huge gaps in my knowledge about certain characters. Gonna have to hunt down some decent players for certain matchups and see if they’ll let me learn a thing or 2 by being beat up by them for a bit

I know some good players depending upon what match ups you struggle with, as I recently friended you, you could maybe either ask me who is good with “insert character here” (that includes the often seen cast cos just cos everybody uses Cammy atm doesn’t mean they can actually use Cammy - for instance lol) or when you’re on have a look at my friendslist and maybe, maybe try inviting someone.

That might not be the best idea as they don’t know you and I don’t really want people on my list getting annoyed at people they don’t know inviting them on my say so. But if all else fails its an option, have a look on there anyway cos a lot of the players I know are at the very least decent.

Also if you’re on when I am ask me for an invite and if I’m playing anyone I think could help you I’ll invite you (though you may end up playing my Rose cos I find the mirror frustrating and not fun against a lot of Chuns for err various reasons)…

Thanks wii will def do that when your on next. I’ve been meaning to have a set with skreamz too but like you said the mirror is annoying so I’ve not really been in the mood for it when we’ve both been online. Will be a good learning experience though. You’re both much better chuns than I and arse kickings are a good way to learn

I work in healthcare so I do pretty horrendous shifts. Most of the time I get a chance to play I just rinse ranked for as many games as I can fit in but it’s not the best way to learn.

I suck at ibuki too and I know you play her a bit - some rose and/or ibuki games would be cool if you have the time :). Thanks.

wii what´s the problem with the mirror?

i found it a perfect match to practice Focus absorb punishes.

and i must say that the whole protocol for online matches are very cute lol

hey there chun-li forums. this is a tournament match i had not too long ago, and if you could give me some tips it would be really cool. i’ve already realized i throw dumb fireballs and sweep(both as an antiair and in footsies) too much but if you notice anything else that i should improve please let me know. there’s also some nervous execution errors like somehow getting c.hk when i wanted EX SBK.
unfortunately i was eliminated before i could get another match on stream so this is all i can give you right now.

the names on the top never got changed for the match so they’re not right lol

Not bad. You meant the j. hk instead of EX Bird right? It would have killed him in R1. You could have had EX legs to Ultra in R2 as well, instead of the knee

You could vary up your anti airs. Don’t rely on just the knee, far s. hk, or EX bird. Use c. mp or c. mk for deep shoto jump ins, s. mk for a mid to far all-purpose anti air. Don’t let a shoto just indiscriminately jump on you like that lol

Ok use of walk and backdash, but be careful of walking/dashing out of range. Remember that in this matchup, Chun-Li rules the middle ground. Too far and you’re at the mercy of Hadokens if you have no Ultra 1, too near and you’re at the mercy of DP FADC stuff.

Ease up on HSU/sweep when the other guy wises up and starts focusing or jumping over them. You seem to drop your c. lk, c. lk combos without adding EX legs at the end. Don’t be afraid to waste an EX stock or two, Chun-Li is very good at building meter.

Thanks for getting to this so quickly. Those were both times I also fucked up, but I mostly meant the bunch of times where he did a crossover jump at me and it looked like I tried to antiair him with a badly spaced sweep when I wanted to EX SBK. I guess I was messing up the charge somehow. In terms of antiairs I’m actually usually pretty good at using c.mp, but since this was the first time I had played offline in like 4 months I was having trouble timing it correctly in casuals so I didn’t try it much here and just went for the easier option in sweep, which unfortunately gets beat by close jumpins and Ryu’s j.hp a lot. :frowning: Also I have a question: is Ryu’s c.mk xx hadoken punishable by super? I think I remember doing it once but I didn’t want to risk it in the match if I was wrong.

cr.mk xx hado can be punished with super depending on the range.

max range is easier to do u1 or super in between.
