Sakura pretty much has two choices in the Chun match, walk you down or jump. Her best option is the later cause her jump-ins are really good, but luckily Chun has buttons to stop her jump ins (stand forward and jump fierces/air throw). What they generally tend to do is try to use their crouch forward to buffer into shouken, and to a lesser degree stand roundhouse and focus attack pokes. Your buttons are better than hers so she usually can’t do all that without taking risks. So they try to get you to focus on the ground game with crouch forward and just plain walking into your face sometimes to scare you into pressing a button, so she can surprise you from the air with like a jump fierce or jump roundhouse.
The matchup is generally no problem unless she does get that jump-in, then it becomes the total opposite lol. You really don’t want Chun in that range where she can pressure you with jabs and tatsus, or mixup you up with her jump shenanigans because its really easy for her to put you in the corner and kill you.
As far as your matches go, Rayartz and Wii hit it on the head. Just anti-air her more. You’re doing what I used to do A LOT with Chun, is letting characters with worse buttons and slower walk speed back you into the corner without fighting for the space. You have really good pokes and walk speed, so by walking you down like that she risks things like being sweep or just hit in the face. Keep that in mind. Best of luck!
You just gotta take the F*you mindset. I’m not going to back up and your not going to force me back.
Of course you’ll dash back and move about as the fight goes on as it is part of the game. But utilize FAs – Chun’s Focus is pretty nice, use it to step forward when you aren’t comfortable. Odds are you can get an attack absorbed, released and maybe a free offensive attack
In most match ups even against Ryu as an example people like to step back and fireball. Its a common thing to see so at the opening of the round so I’ll start out with an FA. It is amazing how many hadoukens I’ve absorbed, dashed in and Cr. Hk’d or Lk Hsu.
Doing this also sets an agressive tone right off the bat. I’m not afraid you so go ahead and reversal mash allowing me to happily punish accordingly.
basically feeling comfortable and up close to someone is all about a mindset.
You’ll get worked over several fights as you adjust to this style but I feel it is the only way to really play Chun as she’s evolved within the game.
My overall success/confidence certainly went way up.
Think of it this way, you get temporary relief backing away from their threat but when they get you in the corner they’re going to get real close to you whether you like it or not cause you won’t have a choice.
okay SGP FTW finds me in game, kindly kicks my back side, then asks me to have a look at some videos. so hear I am.
First off, WiiWh1ppet is my master ;p and got me off on the right foot. also Bahn gave me a good few nudges. and they know there chun very well. so I would listen to them.
and for my little bit of advice, the only bad thing is moving back. getting yourself trapped in a corner is a big no no and that’s what will happen if you keep backing up.
use your footsies to make your opponent back off then walk forward. or fireball and walk behind it.
Thankyou for the advice i just got a mail saying you had posted here so came to look. by the way how do you stop it from sending you mails everytime someone writes something? thankyou skreamz and i didnt kick your backside it was close and i think i got lucky. yeah everyone has said i walk back too much so i really must learn to not be scared.
No, I don’t follow any players on PSN but Vivitan1022 (Vivi) does play on XBL…he’s just hard as hell to catch in Endless since he never plays in Ranked.
Err… Thanks man, that’s a bit too kind of you, I just tried to point you in the right direction when you were first getting going with a few pointer, tips and pushing you this way. I then got annoyed at you lol cos you didn’t seem to be listening or understanding what I was trying to help you with, I actually feel bad about that cos now I’ve realised that I was trying to get you to understand things and do things too quickly.
As you’re aware I have since kinda checked up on you and offered you help (now I know you have uploads ha) and have seen that it was just a time thing, you’ve improved a lot and now understand the game and the things I tried to help you with. You really owe me nothing mate, you’ve done it on your own and I think you’ve got to a pretty good level (although I still think you’re not expansive enough in your game, although that is just a personal choice on how you want to play the character).
Anyway thanks for the props but I ain’t THAT good, I’m just glad I could and can help people.
Anyone wanna C&C these? More of the Cammy ones, as the Viper ones were kinda throwaway/I knew what I had to do but I was tired. I feel that I’m really still too slow to learn and adapt. :\
from what I have noticed when playing.
Cammy player rely on being able to but constant pressure. but once you shut down one or some of there options, they either get lost or turn to defensive mode.
besides the usual getting cornered you kept letting her jump in on you. s.mk her dive kicks they will win or trade. you can c.mp (most)? if not her main jump ins. the Frankensteiner? (that ex full screen throw thingy lol) need to be a late c.mp to hit, an early will just hit the opposite direction.
anyways, that’s my 2 cents or pennys or errrr, ehh, nevermind.
For Hooligan throws (the Samus ball to grab thing), I usually just crouch to avoid it, as it catches standing and jumping states. I’ll try the dodge moves and see what I can get away with.
Main thing I think could have helped you more is my favorite thing with Chun, air to airs. She jumped over your fireballs so blatantly from full screen, you should have just jumped popped her in the face with double jump fierce. When’s she’s in your face, you just gotta respect it a lot of times, and just block and eat the frame trap/throw mixup. This Cammy didn’t want to play the ground game with you at all thus all the jump-ins from half screen and focus attacks. She got a lot of mileage out of spiking you out of your pokes and putting you into the corner. I don’t have much match-up experience on Cammy unfortunately which is why I was hesitant to comment.
Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but will you always beat Cammy’s cannon strike with level 1 focus and just dashing after the hit? You may not get the crumple but seems like it could relieve the pressure she tries to put on Chun.
Also, seems her only reliable way through Chun’s fireballs is EX Spiral arrow, and even that has specific spacing in order to make it hit from a lot of ranges. So you should try using your fireball game to mess up her rhythm, especially after you tackle her out of her jump ins. Hope you found something helpful to help you against that player.
EDIT: After watching deeper into the 20 minute video, noticed you did start going to your fireball and it was frustrating her. Just work on the spacing I guess. Good adjusting. Main thing you should’ve noticed is that after using your fireballs, your sweeps hit a lot more.
