Man! Top 8 (save for Zangief… and he’s a Viper player at heart too  ) is like a smorgasbord of bad Chun-Li matchups. I now see why there’s been so much pessimism about Chun’s usage and tourney life. Please come back, Shizza.
Finally! Some SF4 Chun-Li in the stream again! … briefly in late night fuck-around Japanese casuals. :looney: Link to watch both streams in one window, in case anyone missed it. (And in preparation for tomorrow) http://www.ustwrap.info/multi/evo-1::evo-2
Good showing, ssj3bernie/Brolylegs! Could have killed Daigo’s Yun in the very first Round 1 if you had U2 after EX legs. Very close set of matches overall.
If there’s something I’ve learned from Azrael’s posts and watching Japanese vids, Daigo doesn’t hold back for anybody in the long haul. He was beating up old men, women, and celebs on Japanese tv lol
You’re an inspiration to all.
My money match with Poognko was around the 17min mark…almost had him…didnt get a chance to get at Daigo or Tokido but I’ll see them yea SBO.
ugh man my nerves got the better of me i just watched it and I missed alot of shit i was a bit tired too but still i kno i could have played a bit more solid…3rd set 2nd round i woould have won but i back dash to try and get away from his ultra coz if i did i would have won …oh well. I’ll get him at SBO…I want a rematch.
how are u going to play him at SBO? You are flying out there?
the way i read his post makes me wonder the same thing xD
yup there is a military flight from Hickam AFB in Hawaii to Yokota AB Japan in Tokyo…i dont have to pay for it so why not go plus I never been to Japan, but I figure I can go during SBO with some of the American players like Ross and Champ, so that I’ll b with some familiar faces anyway.
bahn u kno u can walk up st. strg headbutts from Honda i do it all the time
iron if you can try to record the MM from SBO, that would be sick
o
of course I will, I’m mostly going to show support for our teams thats gonna make it at Texas and NY SBO quals so I’ll have my Flip camcorder handy. I’m probably mostly going to only look at playing the best players and not so much worry about tournaments…I may enter a few but its hard in Hawaii alot of great talent out there just hard to get a really big tournament going.
I met with Wolfkrone and we exchanged numbers so that when i home in Detroit visiting family I can hit’em up for some matches which i will mos definitely record. If I make it to FFA this week while I’m still on Vacation in Cali I’ll try to get some AE matches for you guys also.
LOL, nice. St. strong is a great poke to liberally do and that’s commendable if you can do it on reaction. Somehow of Mr. SNK or Mike Ross’ caliber however will not tolerate you doing that for free. Scrubs however don’t know any better.
Random Chun-Dic set from my friends here on offline PC (last month).

I meant after you block it its free …now stopping heabutts in general…just jab
my boy Toi vs auto demon MM in our room. I know few peeps rep chun, wish there were more. I think ppl could take notes from toi, he plays weird, but very effective. Chun’s toolset is too good, (fast dashes, pokes, and sweep) to be played super turtle style.

sorry bout the shaky cam at the beginning of the 1st vid, i was standing at first.
That’s great – but like I said, experienced players aren’t going to be randomly throwing that out. Why settle for a counter that does minimal damage when you can simply punish with Ultra 1 or Super. If you’re constantly getting counters against Honda players constantly using headbutt, you’re dealing with scrubs.
(Basically what I saying is it’s best to go for the best damaging options).
good hondas knows when to headbutt imo, if they have the lead is very common for them to just sit back, the moment you walk they fire the headbutt, in this case is a good option to use st.mp, in the other hand the ultra isnt available in the beginning of the match either so is not that rare for a honda to just chip with headbutts /m2c
Hmm. He has some decent defense, but dashing isn’t really recommended against above average players. Akuma is definitely an annoying matchup for Chun, but based on the footage – it seems he’s not entirely confident in her attack set. Most of his “pokes” just seem like random whiffs and his punishes could have been much stronger. EX SBK was also used during situations that would have been better suited for either blocking or using:
-st. mk (great move to use against standard flips on reaction)
-cl. st. rh (effective as a close-range AA)
-far st. strong (works as a long range AA or poke – more of these should have been used IMO).
His Chun has a lot of potential, and only seems “unconventional” (or wierd as you put it) because his gameplay could benefit from more refinement and playing against stronger comp. This will ultimately help him to make better decisions instead of just walking himself into a corner and playing ultra-defensive.
Yup. That’s why, while this tactic is certainly one of the books, there are better options Chun can utilize based on the conditions that she has meter. A solid Honda player is well equipped to control both horizontal and vertical space (see: j. fp). It can be a challenging matchup.
