Yeah Halibel is a good German Chun a few of mates have him on their Friends lists although I’ve actually never played him…
Hmmm–that may actually work for me. I haven’t seen that before so thanks a lot!
I’m going to be sure and check it out tonight in training mode.
Great combo execution, too bad that Rog was awful though haha. Not much to learn other than gawking at his execution.
Agreed XD
I have been wanting to watch more vids lately. Plus I need to add video channels to the Thigh Guide, so I was wondering if you guys know of any good channels for Chun gameplay footage.
Well I’m pretty sure everyone knows about One Handed Terror, but Kayane’s page is really nice as well–just not too many videos up and she doesn’t explain anything while she’s fighting.
I feel those two are great channels to watch though because you can tell they have a ‘Match up Plan’ before the fight even starts on top of that nothing is really execution extensive by either player.
I found this guy a few months ago while researching match up tips
YouTube - FallingDown80’s Channel
What I like about his channel is that he goes through a few different player types in his match up discussions. Especially with his 4 part Guile tips. He has Dee Jay, Juri, Chun-Mirror, Dudley, Honda, Ken and Rog and I think a few others. Of course he has his ranked sessions taped live like OHT but he bounces back and forth between Honda, Cammy and Chun so you kinda have to search through some of the videos to find the Chun matches.
I don’t really like his approach to the guile matchup. He plays it too defensively, and imo, lets the Guile player dictate most of the match and control space. I also really dislike the the fact that even after getting a knockdown, he opts to walk back into full screen instead of continuing offensive pressure. God knows, that scoring a knockdown can be a real mission at the worst of times against Guile. Not to take too much away from him … he’s doing good work, but we’re not on the same page when it comes to this matchup.
Hey, I got a few videos online that I would like getting some critique.

Any advice would really help. Thanks.
Not sure what you’re expecting… The Abel didn’t play great so it was pretty easy for ya or made it seem easy enough… Seen as you pretty much destroyed him I can’t really talk about what things you did or didn’t do right or wrong… Sorry man
Also I watched that guy’s guile vid tutorial and its kinda how I used to play the match up until a mate that uses Guile reckoned I was going about it all wrong and kinda proved it to me by destroying me with his Guile. As he pointed out and showed throwing out HSU like that is easily punishable, also he said you can’t out lame Guile with Chun, unless you force Guile into the corner by moving forwards blocking booms etc… Guile is never under threat, once in the corner Guile has far fewer options… You can pressure him and space yourself (pressure and mix up in the corner but keep moving back to just outside st.MP range to bait jump outs) to AA any jump outs with either cr.RH (when pushing him back this beats a lot of his jump forward options) or st.MK… He also said that you go for a lot of tick throws on Guile once you’re in cos it
A) Sets up Chun offence really well against him
B) Even if he techs he loses his charge so you can then freely keep the pressure on right in his face for a little longer
Basically he reckoned and so I’ve adopted a kind of bulldog/rushdown approach… Oh yeah and NEVER jump his booms, I’m kinda interested now in how other Chuns tackle certain match ups and would really like to see more of the Chuns that post on here share their matches with maybe a description of how they play the match, might help with critiques cos I get the feeling there are several ways to deal with every character so I’m interested to know what other do in matches other than the standard “use this to AA him” basics…
I haven’t posted here for a long time. When I first got this game I got my Chun to about 4000 K on the 360 controller (yuk). I used her to learn the game because I wanted to main Bison but didnt have a stick… couldnt even run on 360 controller was so horrible. I switched to him when I got my stick, and I was having a difficult time changing from 360 controller to stick with Chun, so I picked up Juri as a 2nd. It’s been awhile and I was able to go back to her. Was speaking with BrolyLegs (old friend, we met back when there were decent sized Brawl tournies wow) he told me to get my Chun back up so I got her to B which is nice. I made a playlist of it if anyone wants to take a look
This match though against the Guile player was hilarious. He came into my endless trolling people and even taunting, so when it was my turn I went Chun and returned the favor

I need help with her ultra 1, is it possible to punish landing lag with it? I can do it with Bison’s u2 but it never seems to work with Chun. Broly said it’s possible but difficult can someone elaborate with that?
he left after the match haha
This is precisely the gameplan I use against Guiles. Smart Guiles know that the corner is their worst enemy and will try to avoid it like the plague, but inevitably, will back themselves there if you keep moving forward against him. I almost never focus sonic booms because both forward dashing or backdashing is detrimental for Chun. You could consequently eat a backfist or f + hk from Guile after a forward dash, and backdashing gives Guile more room to breath and resets his space which is what he wants. Always focus the follow ups. Even if he does the follow ups too early and still hits you on blockstun, your focus will not execute and you’ll just keep blocking. If he tries to fish for the counterhit on the followup, you’ll focus it, and you can close in. Also, hazanshu can be used if you can react swiftly to his boom, particularly on startup. This can hit him before he recovers. It goes without saying, that you shouldn’t hazanshu over a boom if it’s already on screen and Guile has recovered from throwing it.
You can catch them whilst they are airborne, but not when they land, and it only partially juggles. So unless you’re in the corner, you will only get minimal hits. I don’t recommend doing this unless you fish for it by doing kikokens and they are neutral jumping or jumping backwards in the corner and actually catch them on the way down.
Did you post the same video twice?
Anyways, solid spacing good hit confirming. Overall nice fundimentals. Like Wii said you kinda trounced that guy so maybe link up another video where your not demolishing someone. From what I could see your execution was pretty decent. I liked the cross up j.lk , sc.hk xx ex.ll but it would be better cancelling the sc.hk into mk.hasanshu because on counterhit it combos and allows you to combo after the hasanshu.
On another note is this the chun player to plays on pad with his mouth and noes?
Yeah, that should be him.

What’s his combo at 1:14? Is it target combo -> c. lk, c.lp, c.lk, s. lp, s. hp like I think it is?
Only just noticed you asked this… there are the standard ones like OHT or Skatan but neither have posted anything in a while… In terms of channels I like there is always our own Meeks. He updates often is very entertaining to watch and generally does things right…

Other than that the other guy I really HIGHLY rate is Rockhowar(d), seriously I love his Chun lol…
Thanks for the plug Wii lol
I really like Rockhowar. I probably should have asked earlier but I always wondered if he had a yt channel and here it is He’s always on point with everything he does.
When I was still learning Chun, MagnetoManiac’s channel blew me away with the amount of technical knowledge he knew about the character. He’s now moved on with more characters under his belt and seems to be less Chun-centric but his old videos are still a gold mine if you don’t mind trolling through them. I also endorse Skatan’s videos because of his ability to do things that’s deemed to be extremely difficult by most players on this forum. Amazing execution.
Yeah I’ve got rockhowar on my friendslist but I don’t play him often, when I do its always a lesson, which reminds me as I know he visits here from time to time I have to ask him for tips against my mates Cammy cos I know he had a first to 5 with him so I’d like to know how he dealt with him…
Yeah Skatan and Mag’s are both legit to say the least and no probs for the plug you’ve got skills and deserve more recognition :)…
The only other channel is Desks but he really doesn’t play online much or do many standard match vids but if he did he’d probs be the best in the UK at the very least lol… Other than that I can’t think of any at the same level as those I’ve mentioned
XGlOnvDO93M]YouTube - Haneyama [Chun] vs Stay Gold [Ryu
An older vid but one I glossed over before. It looks like hk is being used as a long distance anti air rather than a anticipitory poke. Me likey.
Often enough, I get punished the second time around with a jump fierce for using HK at that angle. The timing on it should be slightly later so they will be too close to the ground for their attack to be a threat. That timing probably works for Balrog, but it always feels unsafe and kind of dirty against Ryu and Sagat.
Didn’t know Meeks had a channel. Got a chance to look at some of his vids and his Chun is excellent.
For another good Chun channel, make sure you include Ludthinks.
Edit: I dug a bit and found some more of Broly’s vids for us to critique whether he likes it or not! >:)

In vid #2, I think you should limit your kikokens against Viper. Maybe on her wake up in the right situation, but otherwise kikoken tends to hurt more than help in that matchup.
General note: usually not a good idea to end combos with EX SBK. Ending with EX Legs allows for an untechable knockdown and wake up games. An exception might be on someone like Zangief because knocking him across the screen might be more valuable than the knockdown mixups.
For vid #3, once you see that a Ryu knows to focus your hazanshu, only use it on reaction to a fireball. Trying to guess fireballs with it becomes very painful.
For vid #4, remember that Dhalsim can’t touch you full screen. The first round was way closer than it needed to be because you rushed in when you could have regrouped.
For vid #5, gotta learn that Honda matchup man. It’s one of those where if you don’t know it he’ll eat you (like in round one) and if you know it you’ll eat him. Anti-air him from the ground, because trades will hurt you way more than him. Stick to cr.RH until he gets smart and uses jumping strong. Then switch it up.
For vid #7, nj.RH against Adon’s jaguar tooth is risky b/c good Adons will nail you with an uppercut as they land. I’m not sure if it’s an OS for them or if they just do it on reaction, but watch for it
For vid #8, remember your OS jump in target combo/sweep to catch back dashers. Rose loves her backdash just like Chun does. And beware of slide into throw. Roses love that setup for some reason.
General note: when it doubt, block. Most Chuns, when they panic, replace block with sweep. If you look at vid #8 against Rose from about 2:45 to 2:50, you’ll see what I mean. Don’t worry, we all do it.
For vid #9, that Balrog made my day. Thank you for perfecting him.
For vid #10, remember your safe jump fierce fierce against Sagat. When you punished him with her Tenshokyaku combo, you could have simply gone for a forward throw into safe jump setup.
Phew. Good stuff man keep it up. If another (more knowledgeable) Chun could please expand on the Honda matchup, I think that matchup could use the most improvement.
