Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

i can watch haneyama’s chun all day

So…

My new TV doesn’t have video out.

Plus, it has input lag OUT THE ASS!

So, unless I can fix the lag and figure out some other way of recording my gameplay, no more vids from me…

Still salted I forgot about reversal ultra1 spacing during round 3! My country has no Blanka user so it’s easy to forget those matchup specific tricks sometimes… haha.

I just finished watching your matches and some things I noticed were you were punishing blocked spiral arrows with throw which is not good because you can do more damaging combos like: cr.hp>hklegs>sweep it gives mad stun and it gives an untechable knockdown so you can go for another combo or tick throw. sometimes if I get a knockdown I cross up with lk and then do a jump back roundhouse it works if they press anything the only way they can stop it is to block and most people dont like to block. If you have meter you could do hk>exlegs or cr.lk>cr.lp>cr.lk>exlegs and another ex legs after the first one for some extra dmg. You also go for the cr.lpx3>st.hp combo allot you can do more damaging combos than that when you have meter because you had super and you were still going for that same combo. Also you always neutral jump when they get close or on wake up I also have this bad habit and need to stop doing it don’t get me wrong its good to neutral jump but don?t get predictable with it because if the opponent reads you they can punish it by just doing a canon spike on your wake up or and air throw they can also use focus attacks and set up a big combo or like that Rufus did when he caught you with the hk in the air and then ultra 1. The Rufus kept pushing you into the corner with dive kicks you can stop that by using df+lk or ex legs. you did at 2:05 but you should have done it more because he was using the dive kicks allot.

Going for a forward throw is not a bad idea at all, especially against characters like Cammy and Rufus where you have safe jump setups. The forward throw, dash up, jump in target combo works a treat against Rufus. You can do the same with Cammy except with a j.hk instead of target combo, but bare in mind, that they can move forward, and make this whiff. Be prepared with a crouch tech or option select target combo + throw.

Other than that, pretty solid imo.

Agreed.

me vs wolfkrone

would like comments, and constructive criticism.

Watch for Viper’s safe jump setups against Chun (Fwd throw, dash up, sj.hk). I almost never use ex-sbk anymore on wakeup because Viper’s ultra combo punish can just reduce Chun’s life to absolute shambles if ex-sbk whiffs. Also, try to avoid backdashing too much on wakeup, as ex seismos and well timed insta-burning kicks can catch recovery. Best to block and react to her vortex.

Also if you use lvl 2 fa to try and get in too much she’s just going to throw out thunder knuckle and break your focus. The way I like to get in is to walk towards her and poke with st.mp. It flat out beats any of her normals. Viper’s normals suck when playing footies so be the first one to attack and force them into being random with burn kicks, Once they realize they can’t hang with Chun’s normals they usually resort mixup burnkick shinnagins. Use cr.mk to hit them out of the burn kick and combo into cr.lp tick throw or cr.mk > cr.lp st.fp blah blah blah. Basically it’s a free combo, but it’s much easier to tag them with it if you’re ready for the burn kick. Have cr.mk ready. Guessing which way to block burn kicks is for suckers. But don’t rely on that either because they can mix that up with sj hk which depending on the situation can cross up too.

Also here are some tips from a Viper player on the matchup but these maybe don’t apply specifically to your matchup with Wolfcrone. I just happened to ask him if my advice was valid and he added this:

thanks for the info guys, ill start testing/applying these things out asap.

Good advice. The most important thing is to not be predictable. Even with footsies, Viper can counter poke with c.mk, or even worse, she can ex seismo into a combo for huge damage.

For blockstrings, if you’re coming across a Viper who loves to spam bks as a reversal to counter loose c.lk hit-confirms, use c.lps into cs.hk or cs.hp. It hits them out of the startup of burning kick (Don’t combo into hazanshu though unless you can react to counter hits, because hitting them out of burning kicks resets them and they’ll recover before you land from hazanshu). They can counter this with hp.tk, but if they are starting to do this, you have the advantage, because you can start baiting them with c.mk, and punish accordingly. Again, predictability is a strong hindrance to your game, so mixup your options.

There wasn’t anything that I was surprised that landed. As usual the combos are impractical. Not complaining, just saying.

wut? damn i love maj videos and with this one brix were shat… just saying

Does anyone know if these matches are still on YT somewhere , cant believe this guys account has been terminated .

Just wondering does chun li get anything garunteed after blocking boxer B-F P ? Dash punch

If I recall correctly LP Dash Straight is -3 on block, and I think it’s got the least disadvantage of all his dashes. Means a free Super. I think blocking a sweep also means a free Super as well.

Rog really can’t do much of anything safely while Chun has a Super stocked.

oh yeah super , how could i forget . That super punishes almost anything , but can she punish the dash punch with anything other then the super ?

with cr lp too (depend of the spacing though)

man, those vids would have been cool!
