Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

Anyone got a breakdown of the combo used in this video?

Also curious as to how legs are being allowed? Because the way I’ve been doing it is sliding from fp to rh, down to lk, back up to rh then spaming mk, However it doesn’t seem like it gives me the correct frame advantage… Do I need to have a mk legs into a mk legs to have the propper frame advantage?

Also in that video I can’t tell if its mp kikosho, or a lp, I’m guessing mp since its got a better frame advantage, but I’d like a better break down of the combo if possible, and if its worth learning for matches or whatever…

The Kikoken loops is characters specific and they have to be crouching and its basically impossible (for me anyway lol) and no you don’t need MK into MK legs for the frame advantage, its like doing the cr.RH on the end… Its just not an easy link, plink it

Nemo was on his SF4 player shit. Refused to block. I respect Chuns that die to pure demon flip grabs.

for the life of me i cant get this, or any move to reliably connect after legs.

hey guys some of you know i’m new to chun. i recently played dieminion from empire and i need some insight on how to deal with guile. it doesnt start till around the 4:00 mark if you want to skip the technical difficulties lol. the first set i start with rose, which was pretty bad, so i switched to chun. originally i was gonna switch to viper but i said “fuck it” as i know he uses honda. i think i did ok with chun but guile’s defense is a pain.

overall i would say your chun is solid but it seems like you werent sticking to the matchup. The Guile player managed to back you up into a corner, when you should be doing that to him.

Not enough tick throwing/throw mind games, and it seemed like he was punishing all of your focuses, which I think were timed kind of poorly.

when guile throws a sonic boom and you’re already real close to him, hazanshu is good

also when guiles throw fadc sonic boom and are dashing it from near full screen, thats free hazanshu, cr.lk legs

I tend to go with U2 in this match just because its extra damage, but I know a lot of people will disagree with me on this.

Good Chun though.

U2 is only great in this matchup if you’re consistently doing EX Legs (which should be standard).
Most would suggest U1, but you’ve really gotta know when it’s safe to punish Sonic Boom.

If the guile anticipates the hazanshu, he can just focus it. Hazanshu becomes extremely unsafe because of this. If you start abusing hazanshu as an answer to every follow up boom, the game starts to end very quickly.

I was looking through some stuff. For some reason, me playing Chun before > me playing Chun now. I’ll try to figure it out sometime.

I have some experience going against Guile. Many of my friends use him, so I will warn you, this match up is a pain in the a**.
You need a lot of pacience for this match-up, eventually you will win.

Most Guiles use a lot of Sonic Booms to create EX meter, so if you’re close enough a Hazanshu should be able to punish him. But, if you miss be prepared to be punished badly.
Hazanshu weak is algo a good option for a mix-up if you got him on the corner.

If the Guile tries to rushdown you, your pokes should keep him away. You will want to keep him in the position where your hazanshu strong will hit (not too close, but not too far).
You can use c.hp to gain ground while keep the charge for your attacks.

Never (in most cases at least) try to beat Guile on the air game. His air grab is better than yours and he’s got plenty of attacks to beat you in the air.
Jumping in this match is not a very good idea. If you’re sucessfull, you can get close for some combos.

Guile’s sometimes attacks with his crouching two kicks (don’t know the input or name here). The first one you block, but between the 1st and the 2nd, there’s plenty of time to punish him with a quick combo. I already won many matches because Guile spammed this attack and I was able to punish it many times.

Oh yeah I remember when you used to main chun…

So, I had a session last night. Wolfkrone usually owns me up with Viper. But last night I felt like I was playing a bit better than usual, safer. Out of my characters, it was Chun who was doing the best. With that said here are her matches.

It depends how close you are and if you have a good read.

in the middle of a dash i dont think they have enough time to focus, could be wrong though.

I put up a bunch of new matches on my account: YouTube - skatanmilla’s Channel
Everything labeled 0910 at the beginning was uploaded recently, there are matches against cammy, deejay, rufus, gen, ryu, rose and feilong.

nice! Good shit man. Is there any reason you used st.lp > st.hp link after the hansanshu instead of cr.lp in the first round?

nice defense in the first round all it takes with viper is one combo near the end. You hesistated and lost your momentum in the second round.

skip to the last round. Signature magman chunli rush down. It was working well until you jumped in on him. I think you saw it wasn’t a good move and shifted into super rush down mode.

My advice for chun’s looking to advance their chun or learn how to rush down would be to watch this last match and adapt some of the techniques on to what they’re doing.

I did st.jab, st.fierce because I can kinda tell when I didn’t hit my hasan-shu deep enough to get low jab. But I do low jab whenever I can. If I use medium hasan-shu as a throw bait, or walk in deep -> short hasan-shu, those are the times where I know I can low jab. I haven’t been using roundhouse hasan-shu much lately. It’s pretty good for combo purposes but it’s pretty easy to react to.

Ah, yeah my pressure is a lot different. I only go for 50/50’s, not so much gimmicks. Throw, throw bait, tech trap, block and punish. That’s all I do haha. I don’t like to overhead or stomp much. Focus is ok with her since it’s basically a tick.

Thanks

MagnetoManiac, thanks a LOT for those vids.

It’s very rare to see matchs/sessions between 2 good players.
I used to see a good players versus beginners and it’s not always very interesting.

So thx again.

I played Wolkfrone last night too. He send me an invite i don’t know why lol. Of course it’s was laggy (live in Paris) but i can compare.

Something i just notice :
It’s hard to safe jump viper though is tk hp has 7 frames of startup.
I fail 5 times my safe jump after a throw and i see you miss them too.

I wondering if Capcom has made a change with the wake up of Viper, it’s very strange cause in vanilla i didn’t have trouble to bait tk hp. I thought it’s was because of the lag but with your vids

I feel like Wolfkrone “scare” Chun li in those matchs.
Perhaps he meet a chun who mash ex legs all day and he lose confidence in this matchup, i don’t know

I also notice he has HARD TIME to tech a throw :frowning:
I throw him a lot (again i thought it’s was because of the lag but you did it also)
Finally, he tried to stand tech throw and at this moment he start to eat cr lk ex legs.

In looking the way you play this matchup (safer),i think you should switch to Ultra 1

About Akuma i count how many time dr chaos jumped (in my opinion it’s the principal reason why chun li have bad time versus akuma)

23 jump first round
20 jump in second round (most are jump back fireball though)
19 jump in the last round (most are jump back fireball though)

funny and crazy

oh wow I didnt know that was wolfkrones gt.

Hes too fucking good with Viper, way too good. I managed to beat him in a round like once

thank you very much for your chun vs viper videos. i had no idea that wolfkrone was porkloafking on psn

c_nul. I don’t know, I sometimes can get the safe jump. Maybe it’s because I OS sweep in the safe jump, so my sweep comes out when the knuckle is starting up. But if I do it right, I shouldn’t have that problem.

I don’t like U1 vs Viper at all. Who gets hit by that?

Thanks for watching.
