you could of zoned better with fireballs especially when u had him full screen but you lost alot of real health quick so i kinda see why you were in his face just zone better with the fireballs
Roy0, like you said you were predictable with your zoning.
Against this type of opponent, just do nothing. Stay front of him but do nothing because they don’t threat you.
You was rushing him and he was waiting a lucky counter hit poke to knockdown you.
He was mashing backdash every time.
You have to pretend you want to poke without poking.
You poke when you feel a threat but with no threat don’t take risk versus abel.
You don’t have to rush him at his wake up. He is not free anymore. Let him a little space and act after he wake up

Me being a stupid fool, i was mashing crouch tech or cr. jab after i saw a step kick or a cr. fierce from Abel in hopes i can get him off of me or stop that rushdown somehow. As you can see, I got punished for that, thus the constant counter hits. Bad play from me.

Too many baited EX SBKs, since i was guessing wrong on wakeup or he was reading me as i was getting up.

I dunno why those (EX) hasan shus worked when he backdashed or as he was landing from a jump.
So for the most part, after the first round I felt I had to play some sort of footies game with Abel and rush him point blank when i had the opening. Unfortunately, most of my offense was successful because I managed to guess right and he was able to feel my rhythm and counter-poke or expose the holes in my defense. I’m sure there’s more stuff in that match I could pick up, so I’ll look at it some more later…
Those points caught my eye. In the first point, do u mean the typical footies tactic of just hovering in that range where I would usually press a button (ie. st. strong) and just waiting until they press something or take advantage of them holding back or something?
About the second point, when I throw i poke I usually feel either I’m in range to where it will hit them or create some time of space between me and the opponent. However, I think I understand what u are saying. I wanted to create space or establish something, but I ended up whiffing it and getting punished for it.
Well, consider this. If every time you walk into standing roundhouse range, you hit standing roundhouse, does Abel have a way to counter this?
Yes(cr.mk xx COD or EX COD).
However, it’s hard to do on reaction, and relatively safe. So players will throw it out if they think you will poke. If you poke EVERY time you walk into range, they will own you.
Spacing is certainly an aspect of it.
But I think a bigger theme that c_nul was getting at is the psychology of the game. He used the word pretend, because that’s really what you want to do. You want to condition your opponent to think a certain way, and then capitalize on it. It’s a constant fight of adaptation. Poking, and even more, movement, can be a huge part of that. Predictable poking is counterable, and quite easily. Mix-ups at full screen exist, they are just harder to see.
Chun Li is also faster than Abel, so she has lots of opportunities to make him nervous without really putting herself in danger. She can put herself in tempting situations and get out of them before Abel can really do anything that she can’t counter on reaction. Throw rolls, block and punish wheel kick, anti-air jumps. She can slowly pick him apart then go for bullshit damage when he can’t deal with it anymore.

Thought some of you guys might enjoy this. Not a particularly great fight but there is something redeeming in it when dealing with runaway Bisons. Feel free to blast me for my play, I know I suck at IV.
You don’t have to take this advice since it’s not safe, but that guy was jumping away a lot in order to get back to full screen. You seemed to intimidate him enough, so you should try noticing when you see people abusing that tactic to run away when you have that effect on people. Just press forward to catch up to them and sweep to get the knockdown.

Fair enough Shrimp. There’s probably a bunch of things I could have done to catch up with him and lock him down. The only reason I posted this is because it was just sweet justice to be able to take the crap he was doing and give it right back to him at the very last second.
I feel you on this one. In fights like this I just feel like jump back should be banned from the game. Especially when people jump back after they knock you down. But then again I think that I just gotta figure out a counter. But no success for now.
Reminded me a lot of my play I tend to make similar mistakes.
