I don’t think I would’ve fared much better since I haven’t played a decent Rufus at all. At least you were able to see what you did wrong and how you should have played it, so that’s good.
LOL mag, i like pink chun too!:lovin:

Here are some other vids in the losers bracket:

Match 3/3 GG.
Well there you have it, I had a lot of fun there, seeing how it was only my first tournament. I hope to do it again, but this time, REPRESENT Chun Li!
i did absolutely TERRIBLE at the play and trade tournament…had to leave before i could do the losers bracket match to catch a train also, but most likely wouldn’t have had great results there either. i think the nervousness of being the first tournament and my brain melting into a scrub who doesn’t even know all of chun’s moves added up…
well that said, i recorded some matches with a friend who is probably the best gouken player i’ve ever seen / played. out of 20 sets i only won one of them, so i thought i’d share for evaluation / advice. my friend’s xbl is “fdsdfg”, if anyone’s interested in playing him.
the ones i lost were pretty much a repeat of what happened in round 3 where he pretty much got a perfect on me, but i guess i could capture those later also (not that i’m trying to hide he pwns me, it really is a sad repeat of round 3 )
i’d also like to add that he is much much much much better than me, has around 5 - 6k bp, and has been into sf2, etc. sf4 is the first sf i’ve ever played, and the arcade stick i recently got around 2 weeks ago is the first i’ve played on…so i’m trying to spread my scrub wings as fast as possible.
all advice / criticism / evaluation appreciated, please be ruthless.
here’s the match: sorry my soundtrack got recorded in the background as i was playing, hope it’s not too bad

Thanks for the vids, guys! n_n
Alright guys…let’s put an end to this lightning legs nonsense. It’s not a defensive move, has no invincibility, should not be used in itself, and yeah…stop using it unless you’re doing it to build meter or combo the EX one. I know it’s her signature move and it’s hard to resist pressing for it…but don’t get it confused with a tiger shot or anything like that, those moves are actually good, and regular lightning legs…pretty much isn’t for the most part.
That’s 2 hour Chun stuff…I mean if you get away online with it, cool, but don’t wonder why it didn’t work at an IRL tournament.
And let’s remember, we’re using a low vitality character, and we want to eliminate risk/reward factors as much as possible. Playing defense properly assists this, which means to block very often, but not sit down and be predictable to the point where you get grabbed often and take damage anyway.
well thats a nicer way to put what i wanted to say. damn you beating me to the punch. :arazz:
eh? Most of the time I do LL was usually by accident actually…and sometimes failed EX legs unless you’re talking to xxAlucard… and how exactly were you gonna say it Xero15?
not in a mean tone necessarily but i was gonna say something like why the hell would you do ll like that right in sagats face but since you just described why that happened ill just say oh ok. at the same time though i noticed you did a lot of hazanshu’s after most your fireballs which would be good but in small doses. i was more shocked at the fact that sagat didnt catch on right away and hit you with something painful. on the flip side since he didnt react to it it would have been better to use some of that meter to make those flip kicks safe AND apply pressure since he was already blocking.
ninja edit: please just call me xero
Thanks for the vids Albedo, I thought it was a bit mean during the Sagat match them coaching the Sagat player… I mean, he’s Sagat! :arazz:. “Don’t fireball… don’t fireball,” woops, fireball.
You did great though, I think I would’ve just fallen apart at a tourney ^^.
I posted some stuff about Gouken in the strategy and matchups sticky Alucard, as it was too long and specific for this thread.
Edit: Yea, I didn’t think Magneto talking about Albedo, his normal LL was coming at the end of a confirmed combo, so I assumed it was just messing up the ex-input.
had to scroll back up i didnt see this other vid.
ninja edit: seemed like the gouken player knew you had a tendency to jump hence you spending the majority of a match from afar by his fireballs. focusing would have gave you the meter you need for ultra to help prevent this some as he would have to fear you pulling the ultra once he fires one at you. i cant give too much more than this since i have still yet to play a good gouken
Good point. I have a problem accidentally doing this when I don’t realize I don’t have meter and I’m expecting to do cr. lkx3 EX Legs. I need to work on that.
thanks for the comments guys. i think i’ll make it my new thing to never lightning kick (besides as an fa breaker) unless it’s an EX, since you’re right about it being bad, having bad recovery even if it hits, and overall being a scrubby habit. just realized i should focus attack fireballs more and then jump over them as i recover hp to build ultra…very good point.
i definitely appreciate all the advice so far
you’ll always be x-dude to me !

hmmm i still wouldnt use it for an armor break id stick with a throw or sbk for that instead or two rapid attacks that leave you at an advantage but not just legs by themselves
you drop the dude part and ill be straight with that :china:
yeah i guess you’re right xero, i would just think at a range kind of outside jab / short that maybe legs would be best (if i had no ex bar for legs.) guess i’ll try and stay away from regular legs altogether then
lk legs are GOOD, people… dont go listening to MM or AZ or me for that matter if something we say dont jib right… lk legs are +2 on block if you know the mash and plus 6 on hit.
they are an easy confirm into super and dont need pre-charge when doing cl. hk xx lk legs… if you can get the mash for cr.mk xx lk legs down pat, its a fantastic hit confirm that lasts forever and starts low plus it scales the super to 80 % unlike cr.lp x 2 or 3 > hp > super which scales to 70% and 60 % respectively.
but yeah MM is totally right when he says that the way people have been using legs is just… wonky to say the least. mashing ex legs during your opponents poke strings is only good if they’re near the corner.
one of my fellow chun players likes to do this shit… but when i play i just let the frame data take over and ch him all day… he learned quickly… i suggest you guys do the same:smile:

if youre right outside of range then youd do better backdashing imo just to see what they do. you dont want to give them the chance to dash up to you and at the same time you dont want to walk up to them to try to rapid attacks only to get ch into something stupid.
as far as legs go i only use the ex version of them since i dont see them as a keep off me move. if i were to use them id use them like in cvs2 (activate then stop for link) but seeing as everytime i attempted that on the computer i got punished even after it comboed or was blocked so i keep away from it. although it was a slip on his part since ex didnt come out the range he was doing it at sagat could have punished with his all too famous fadc at best. plus i think you can just jab through it if its not touching.
idk i see what dime is saying but it only takes a few times of punishment to make me think other wise and since humans are smarter/stronger than the cpu i think ill be safe and not use it on a human opponent.
The only 2 times I have any real success with LL is either when gouki does a random demon, it’ll stop him (granted a lot will, including just jumping away, but this seems safer and doesn’t give him the the royalty of just going to the other side of the screen.) and in the link combo: FA>lk LL>c.lp>.c.mk>EX legs.
/shrug
granted when the cpu punished me i probably mistimed it or did it in a bad situation that was enough for me to be like ill drop this for now.
