Chun-li Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I’m siding with Robotic elf, sweep him if you see it coming… or if he’s too close wait for him to pass over then sweep. If you notice your opponent has a tendency to throw out something risky straight after tatsumaki then backdash as soon as it ends. He’ll either whiff a throw or a shoryuken and you can punish. I also do that against players that react with reversals against my cr.fp->m.sbk. This more so for Ryu than Ken. Ken’s fierce shoryu will probably still tag you during backdash.

I think the window for punishing tatsumaki is slightly before the animation ends too, or maybe thats just online distorting my perceptions.

Quoting to thank again. I tapped the left bumper for like 20 minutes while reading a book and cleared like 5 more survival levels without breaking a sweat :lovin:

Guys I have a question.

I heard from a very unreliable source that chun lis instant focus attack > forward dash > throw cannot be interrupted, only escaped. I’ve never seen this, is it true? I’m also talking about on block here.

Thanks

I see, the neutral jumping fierces … Should they be done on the rise, or when you’re landing? I tried doing them as I was landing but I couldn’t land the stomps that way… More practice I guess.

Yea, you can land the fierce’s on the way down from around head height (hit box is slightly higher than the crumple animation shows). You want to double tap fierce when the first one can hit to make sure you get the second one, if you wait to see if the first connected you probably won’t get the second one. Then you can just jump straight into the stomps. You can still get the stomps if you only land one fierce, but then the combo is definately not as good as j.fpx2->cr.fp->m.sbk.

Honestly, I think damage scaling will make it a less valuable stun dizzy combo. The only time I could see it outperforming j.fpx2->cr.fp->m.sbk is if you got a dizzy from a single hit. I think I was just trying to justify my original post, when a simple apology would have sufficed -.-.

true and not true…

assuming that your timing is perfect on your throw, your opponent has no normal move that will interrupt cause chun is +1 on hit or block after dash…

HOWEVER, any reversal with slight invincibility frames will counter your throw attempt.

so, in conclusion… normals wont work, but everything else will pretty much.

Can you buffer hasan shu and if so whats the duration of the buffer? Having trouble getting through FB change-ups (i.e fierce > fierce > jab)

^^i just go through hadokens on reaction… if its online, fireballs own you for free.

-dime

Yeah…Chun is really not herself online, that’s definite. I honestly guess whenever I absorb and dash a tiger shot online. Offline I can just wait and if they didn’t do it ready anti air or walk up poke.

Irrelevant: It reminds me of this game “Vampire Savior” where this character “Bishamon” was all links and timing, now I know how they felt :[.

edit: EX/mid screen roundhouse tiger shot OWN Chun online. You know that frame Nuki hits while the tiger shot is on him, shit wouldn’t happen online lol. Definitely isn’t happening for us either  .

Well I feel a lot better hearing guys like you acknowledge that because I swear this game makes me feel like my skill level went to shit. Back in the Alpha/ST days… or even HDR, I never had so much trouble dealing with frame advantage (unless the player was just completely more skilled than I was).

LOL @ Nuki comment: I was trying that shit online – yeah, don’t work at all. How sad indeed! God, why couldn’t this game be blessed with GGPO?

iknow EXACTLY what ultra your talking about with nukis ultra going through the low tiger… i honestly dont think i would be able to do that offline though… nuki DEFINITELY guess reacted that tiger.

-edit… i originally posted this in a netcode is shitty thread but it sums up EXACTLY how i feel about online play:

-dime

Nice example. I tried to pick up Bishamon as an alternate so I know exactly what you’re talking about.

He didn’t guess, that was 5 hour energy. I ultra’d an EX tiger as soon as it left his hands, shit was just wiggle wiggle 3k when I saw the orange!!!

If Nuki wasn’t on 5 hour energy, then he musta buffered it and just pressed kicks on reaction.

But Chun players definitely cannot guess with ultra, maybe with hasan-shu, but with ultra it’s either it hits or block/get hit. I only guess with it online if I’m annoyed as hell for getting hit when it doesn’t come out :bgrin: .

lol naw man… i was’nt saying he flat out guessed.

i was saying that he react guessed.

basically he was using twitch reflexes… ANYTHING that the sagat player would have done nuki would have tried to ultra it. if the sagat player had done a cr.lp, nuki would have ultra’d it and gotten the loss. which is why it’s so dangerous to use, and i almost never go for them.

i’ve used twitch reflexes to ultra a sonic boom INSIDE of guiles cr.mk range and of course gotten it to hit.

that requires INSANE reflexes tho, and in that situation versus sagat that nuki was in, i know i wouldnt have been nearly ballsy enough to use that tactic.

haha when the game first came out, my friend used to bait my ultra cvs2 style with that low short. Shit would get me for a while, and then instead of reacting to sound/movement, I switched it to…ORANGE!!! If it’s there, I’m pressing it! No escape!! :bgrin: .

But yeah, isn’t that you how react to it too? Maybe this can help people that are using twitch reaction…

ORANGE!!!..

FUCK NO, i dont use twitch reactions out here… i CONFIRM. “twitching” as i will now call it, gets you killed out here. at least it gets ME killed…

if i’m using twitch all you have to do to make me do my ultra is go from a crouch block to a high one … VERY dangerous…

-edit … i now see that you meant if i was reacting to orange… no i wasn’t, will try this out next time i play against some uber gay sagat

-2nd edit i do “twitch” with hasan shu though… much safer till they start throwing out fa’s.

-dime

Yeah, you don’t react that way of course…but I was asking your way of confirming the tiger shot for your ultra. Sound? Visual? What do you hear/look for?

Tournaments around here ran at the same time don’t get a lot of love for sound noise.

Twitching reminds me of an interesting topic…poking.

What’s your style of utilizing Chun’s pokes? It depends on who I’m playing against or which character, but more often I’m an aggressive poker because she can boss people around with her pokes. If they want to counter poke and are scared, great, I’ll walk up and gain more space. Forward walk speed >>> backwards. If they jump back, I match it with a dash forward + a slight walk step (extremely good range). The only time I counter poke or give up space is against claw. My only aggressive option is something from like 3/4 screen, if I walk up and stop JUST outside of their low strong range, then counter sweep it. Walking up causes people to do things, it’s a forgotten ST tactic.

Like against a fireballer, if you walk up for a while, they will throw a fireball. So if you walk up and then jump forward instantly (guessing, hopefully educated though) then you have a chance at punishing them.

I know you know most of this stuff, Dime, but it’s a thread for everyone to read so I wanted to get the others on the same page as far as our thinking goes.

How do you all utilize her pokes?

I twitch to sounds… but I guess that just wouldn’t fly in a noisey arcade.

At home I can have the sounds really loud, so when Sagat goes “TIII-”, I’m hitting KKK.

I play an aggressive poking game with chun too. S.mp is just a very good poke that will stuff fools. Combine that with aggressive footwork and guys will mess up constantly, sometimes I go all out and just mix up depending on my opponent’s temperment. Then I throw in the anticipatory S.HK to stuff their jump back to create space again, but before they do that i’m going to give them the gift of s.hk.

It’s all about footwork focus attacks too! Great with chun because she has one of the best FAs in the game.

but vs boxer, I just turtle because that c.jab is so annoying. That’s one of the reasons why I always used to lose against boxer, i’d challenge that c.jab because i think i can out play him from that range and a little beyond, but that c.jab is so cheesy Q_Q.

before i answer the MONUMENTAL question you pose here… does anyone think we should mave this discussion to S&M???

i most certainly do, you’ll find my answer in there in like an hour or so…
