Chun-li Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Thanks. Her AA is a bit more involved than I thought. No wonder it isn’t stated so clearly…

Block string for chun li ? (I don’t know how to ask better ^_^)

I think F+mk and c.HP is very useful to pressure the enemy in the corner, but I didn’t found a good block string to continue the pressure.

Thats why you let it go as soon as the jump in attack is absorbed, that way it hits them as soon as they land

What do you guys actually practice when in training mode? Things such as Dash Ultra and other movements?

Anything and everything. If someone posts new combos on here that dont click with me, I sit in training til I can pull it off easily (That fa->j.hp->stomps is still stumping me >_>)

Other than that, before my first match I like to go into training, mess around a bit with new poke strings, my usual combos and of course all the different ways to combo into my Ultra and Super (to make sure my timing is still fine)

Everything ClxJames just mentioned… Also, if something I can usually nail isn’t clicking with me in a match I’ll take a break from matchs for a bit and practise that particular thing in training mode a bit to get myself straight. Usually its something like dash ultra, but I fall out of love with other stuff too **.

I like to do stuff like jf.fpx2->cr.lp->cr.lk->cr.lp->s.lp->s.fp to keep myself really familiar with the link timing.

yeah… i do “reps” in training…

practice a combo or pokestring 10 times (or until the timings perfect) for the muscle memory.

and just random things i see on these forums… i also just like beating up on the dummy when i have full ultra and meter also  :nunchuck:

Why is standing MK (either close or far) not mentioned more? Dime_x’s thread mentioned this, it was the first time I had heard of it, and when I tried it out in training it seemed to be the easiest AA for me to pull off. Far, it hits far, and close, it hits almost straight up. I thought it was pretty awesome. What does it lose against?

its kinda slow when the far version is used… during fast paced matches, it’s easy to time it too late and get it stuffed resulting in a combo.

also its hit box is sometimes suspect versus certain high priority jump ins.

Ok thanks. Now, what if I don’t have time to do everything? Are there certain things that are a “must” to practice over other things or should I just practice a different thing each day?

look in my chun-li compendium practice those combos first as those are the ones that you’ll be needing at high level play the most.

Hey all, I used to main Blanka but recently switched over to Chun Li. However Blanka gave me some bad habits so I need to rebuild my mindset.

I was just wondering if people can give their opinions on how defensive/offensive they play their Chun. (1 being all defense, 10 being all offense)

Also at what distance they find Chun to be most effective at (full screen, half screen, 1 body length etc)

Finally whether I should use her aerial, standing or crouching moves more. I know she has a move for every situation but in general do you find yourself jumping, standing or crouching?

Thanks!

watch videos in the video thread, and read my compendium.

If I find myself jumping, and it’s not in reaction to something my opponent has done, or what I think they will probably do; I have a little chat with myself, which goes like, ‘Cut that shit out.’

Jumping without reason gets you killed fast as Chun-Li, her jumps are just too floaty, they beg to be punished. There are a few match-ups where you can jump a bit more than others, say Abel. But, overall, I think its a horrible habit to develope as a Chun-Li player. Of course, I’m not saying never jump… an unpredictable jump can net you mad damage; And, once your opponent respects your ground game going air-to-air can be good too.

Do both

What I will usually do is play back the first round, get a feel for their gameplay and habits. And by the time the second or third round starts, they expect turtle Chun. Thats when I whip out aggressive kick-your-ass-so-fast-and-hard-you-cant-react Chun :smokin:

PS - another note to HustleMan: The newest thing I do in Training is learning to keep charge as I jump in, that way I can j.hp2 -> Ultra, or j.hp2 -> c.hp - > m.SBK, etc

Damn it Dime, it’s like I’m going through Chun-Li boot camp to learn those combos in your compendium thread

Yeah. Being able to maintain a charge after jump-ins is key since this opens you up to numerous options to pressure your opponent. Alternating betwen offense and defense helps to keep your playstyles from becoming too predictable. Madden and I were just talking about people who rely on runaway 24/7, which is not makes for a dull match, but leaves your potential extremely limited when facing opponents that can easily get around this tactic.

Right now, I am working on a variety of different styles, testing out links and some of the advanced stuff featured recently by OHT. If I discover the opponent can’t punish pokes and jump-ins, then I will amp up the aggression. It’s all a matter of just feeling your opponent out since everyone has a fairly unique strategy.

I’ll just post here rather than making a thread somewhere.

I am just wondering if there are any Chun players from this board that wouldn’t mind playing me on XBL? I just want to see what other styles you guys have compared to my own.

I’m told I’m pretty aggressive and other people say I’m really defensive so that confuses me O_o

Question: How in the world do I beat Gouken? Can’t hasan shu his fireballs, because it runs the risk of getting hit by an up ball. Can’t approach from air or ground because he can just use that counter. Can’t wait for him to make a move because he has such an advantage, and if he knows it, he’ll just wait. This is very frustrating. Tips?

lol srry bout that but its the road that chun must take to travel to the top, i can guarantee you though that once you have those combos down, your chun will be SCARY!

i’m going to the darkside yall, seriously thinking about seconding sagat… those vids that ark put up had me at TIGER!
