I know the complaining about the nerf will get old eventually, but who agrees that chun is just plain much less fun to play now?
I don’t even see the reason for the nerfs, bison was in a kinda comparable tier (if you don’t count the japanese tier lists because they always rate from virtual potential, not actual power, i’ve seen that in many games now and i don’t like looking at j-tier lists much anymore) and he got nothing but buffs.
Yeah i’m kinda sad now, i don’t know who my main is anymore.
I dunno if she’s less fun, but I’m kind of mad that she got the nerfs she got, and then what we got to replace it was a hardly-functional SBK with extremely limited use. That’s kind of annoying, actually.
I am probably in the minority here but I am having more fun with Chun than I ever did before. My game hasn’t really changed all that much and I wasn’t a big user of the SBK before and even though I use it now it isn’t a big part of my game. Personally I think head stomp run away SBK’s against Gief are lots of fun (subsequently probably pretty annoying to Gief players).
In new iterations of games characters change and perhaps Chun should not be many people’s main. I stopped playing her completely in A3. This Chun is more fun for me and you can take it with a grain of salt depending on your views of my abilities as a Chun player, but I don’t think many would describe my playing as scrubby.
I don’t find Chun as much fun to play anymore either because I can’t play her like I did in ST.
In ST it was for me to set the pace my opponents would play after, wether that would be defensive or offensive. But now in defense I feel a lot weaker because of the SBK nerf, the lightning kick nerf, the super nerf and in offense the super and lightning kick nerf also comes into play. So it kind of feels like weather on offense or defense I’m not getting much payoff from it.
Seeing how Chun and Ryu were looked at as pretty much equal in tier I don’t see how Ryu got a buff and Chun got nothing but nerfs.
I will still play Chun though because I like her as a character, and hopefully something will be discovered that makes her a stronger character, but I doubt it. Otherwise I’ll just play Akuma until he gets banned.
i aggree looking at all the “nerfs” that other characters got i have to agree about Chun getting shanked. I’ve played all the characters in the game and wow many of the tone-downs are affect gameplay very slilgtly. However the tone downs with chun seem like they affect the macthups drastically, for example i lost to a Boxer players online who i know i couldhave beat in ST, it feels like he got a slap in the hand when get got his nerfs. “Bad Boxer why are you so top-tier”. For Chun-li it was more like a punch in the face “You bicth waht are you doing alomst being toptier dont you know, your too cheap” But i digress i still like HD but i feel like I 've lost my character, im a specialist and i knew the macthups 90% for Chun but now it seems like i only know bit and pieces. Therefore im goin to suggest that we start making soem macthup analysis for HD, me personnaly im goin to grab a notebook and start doing some reasearch and examing everything in HD as well as how to go around beating Akuma cause that macthup is insane, defenatly a 6-4 againts Chun or maeby a 7-3
Maybe it’s just me, but I’m of the impression that this is NOT ST. I no more want to play ST chun in this game than I would in SF3. Maybe I’m alone here.
I like learning new chun. Also she’s prettier now.
Yeah, fucking Air SBKs. Thank god they’re hard for Chun to punish, yay for mirror matches, lol.
Anyways, I’m not exactly sure why you guys think she feels like a completely different character…like, what exactly did your guys’s gameplans revolve around that Chun feels sooooo much different? I think she feels like the same character, but just a little harder to use, cos you can’t fall back on her comeback super, or her crossup neckbreakers. The new SBKs suck, a LOT, but none of this stuff has made me drastically change my gameplan in any match.
Can’t speak for anyone else, but for me, still not that much experienced with charge characters, suddently having to be careful not having a downback charge at the wrong time is HUGE. It kinda makes me nervous and makes me hesitate on a lot of things. I relied on her powerful air to air game a LOT and if i play just as i used to, i’m gonna get air SBKs all the time. Yeah yeah, that’s not top tier strategy but that’s how i used to play, rushdown while keeping charge and a lot of twitch jump ins, even for plain annoyance. The super and LL nerf doesn’t affect me that much.
On the positive side it forces me to really learn her antiair game properly, turtle a little more and have a little more strategy instead of just relying on pokes and twitch reflexes. And again, having no flipkick is a gift from the gods.
To finish with a bright note, anyone noticed once in a while she sometimes gets more super hits on an airborne opponent than in ST?
Someone posted a while ago how chun has to block a red fireball from akuma on wakeup.
I wouldn’t worry about red fireballs that much, it may look scary but go into practice mode and you’ll see that a 3 hit red fireball does about the same chip damage as a single normal one sometimes less sometimes more (it’s random). Overall nothing to worry that much about.
I’m not even sure why people use the red fireball anymore (cept vs honda), maybe they think it does more chip than it really does.
I’m not happy with HD Chunli, she’s easily the most nerfed character in HD remix. I don’t really understand why Sirlin had to nerf her that MUCH. She feels like ST lite, only with a useless new move.
In the past, I always found Chun particularly more enjoyable in A3 because her upkicks seemed more reliable then they did in ST. Now I like her just as equally in both editions. It’s funny that you mention the headstomp as I don’t seem to regularly use that as much on anyone, especially Gief who’s become more formidable in HD.
I’d like to play you sometime and experience your playing style.
Her AA game seems a lot weaker this time around. I was originally convinced it was just bad timing, but based on the reactions I’ve read in the past 3 pages – it’s clear that her abilities were adjusted. It’s annoying to see how certain characters get upgraded while many of her key techniques as you’ve pointed out have been nerfed. I don’t mind that they tweaked the lightning kicks because most players think they can just mash on that all they and win.
Though like you, I’ve always enjoyed her as a character and I’ve grown to like the new SBK (and “breakdance SBK”, lol). I think she was presented with a solid move set which allows skilled and newcomers to keep things diverse.
