Chun-Li HD Remix

When playing Vegas, I tend to do a lot of long-range jab Kikoukens and follow with jump-away forwards. It’s not something I put a whole lot of thought into, but it seems to help me keep control of the match

Voltech, let me see some of that chun vs. fei youtube.

I got just one match on random SB and it was pretty one sided but I’m posting it now Anyway it gets the point across. I’ll get some better ones when I get the chance.

Ok thanks, I will implement.

What’s wrong with the info bar in that clip?

Did you record any of our crazy matches?

That’s the power bar glitch! Yeah I did actually

You don’t have to post it, but can you email them to me maybe? Maybe I can learn from them.

And could you also tell me how to record games from what appears to be a direct feed?

Yeah I could do that

GG’s Brokaw… you take advice well and really, the one technique you need to master is the fireball to super. Keep in mind you can SBK to super just like the fireball to mix things up and surprise you opponent. Also mix it up by doing a fireball then holding down forward to which stores your super but Chun doesn’t advance. If you can get an opponent to jump over your fireball you can super them on their way down as long as you kept holding forward or down forward.

You have some good lock down combos already so you don’t really need help there. And you have some automatic reversals you use already, but you should look to adapt to your opponent once they have adapted to you.

Also grab some games with Voltech, his Chun is well regarded on PSN, I am sure he has a few good tactics for you too.

Thanks. I’ve already played with him a little. I held my own but I think the problem is that is misleading as my mirror match is much better than vs rest of the cast. I think it’s because I use chun enough that I have more knowledge in that matchup.

I’ve been watching youtube stuff and trying to pick up things for other matchups. I already integrated the tactic he does of jump neutral short after a knockdown then tick throw. Do you have a youtube page or just scattered vids?

And I will work on fireball into super. My super command is very poor and I usually don’t use it because it’s not reliable. hopefully getting a joystick will help with that.

Another thing, on knockdown, I usually do a meaty crouch forward into throw/lightning legs or just stand strong into throw. I’m not even sure those moves are technically meaty though. Is it much better to use the flip kick?

Also, in the air I pretty much only use short. This is because I think short has better priority than anything else I can use. But are there certain characters where it’s safe to use forward instead for more damage?

Oh another thing is I’ve read about people on knockdown doing a crouch short right at the edge of its range against ryu/ken so that if they reversal dp, I won’t get hit and then I can punish. Is this viable? Is it easy enough to learn? Because I have not seen advanced chun players use this.

Thanks again for your help.

Nah I don’t have any youtube movies that I have put up. The only movies of me playing on youtube are of me losing, no one ever posts me beating them :razzy: You tactis are pretty good against Chun Li herself but didn’t offer much against Cammy or Gief. You have to be able to change up your play style for different characters.

As for your meaty ticks, shorts and jabs are much better to tick with. There are more frames of animation with the strong and forward moves so a better chance for your opponent to reverse, which I was able to do.

As for the crouching short thing, if I don’t like being that close, I much prefer to back off and zone. Especially against DP characters… if I feel I can get away with an anti wake up move it will be a kneckbreaker where I can either tick or kneckbreak, jab then tick.

Last thing, against a lot of characters I use jumping forward a lot but that is usually because I have baited them into jumping and can cause more damage with pretty good certainty I will hit them clean. I mostly matters at the distance in which they jumped from, as long as you are going to be higher than them you should win and against most jumps. Beware Cammy’s jumping forward or Dee Jay’s up + short.

Hope this stuff helps, ultimately you should probably find your own style of play for her, not mine or Volt’s.

Yes. There are certain matchups where I have little idea what to do. As I understand it, I should be winning most cammy and zangief matches. I didn’t against you but that’s not conclusive of anything, you are just a better overall player.

But even against people of comparable skill level, I do not win a large majority of the time with those two, I split 50/50 or thereabouts. Fei Long is also another I have trouble with.

What’s the general strategy I should use against those guys?

I think I’ve identified one of my problems and it’s that zoning is anathema to me when I play chun li. That’s strange, because back in the day I used Guile and Ryu, so I obviously know how to zone.

When I play chun li I just feel the urgent need to rush people down and harass them. But I watch advanced chun li players and they usually zone.

Actually I personally believe Chun to have an even fight with all three of those guys. As for strats, stay hell and far away from Zangief… seriously at all costs run away. If you get backed up into the corner and you think Gief is going to get too close jump off the wall, headstomp and SBK to safety and run away again.

Cammy and Fei and pretty similar characters who don’t have projectiles  Use yours to get them in the air, Chun beats most of their jumps if done from the right distance. Also use her kikkoken to get some of the pressure off. Cammy and Fei players should be rushing you down, after you block a canon drill then thrust kick lock down throw a kikkoken. If Fei does chicken wing then flame kick to safety use a fast kikkoken to zone him back a little and work on baiting a jump. Kneckbreakers work on Cammy pretty well, only against Fei if they are super meaty.

Lastly, both Fei and Cammy hate lightning kicks, use that against them as much as possible, as a Cammy player also I can’t tell you how annoying lightning kicks can be.

Edit: Zoning is probably the biggest part of my game. Instead of a dedicated anti air however I usually try to make my opponents land on her kikkoken. It’s super hard to beat Chun from a distance… make half to full screen your comfort zone.

Thanks. I will work on these matchups over the next week, trying to integrate these tactics. I will get back to you on my progress.

Oh by the way I was in Vegas recently. The wynn buffet rocks. How do you live in that city and not gain 300 pounds.

its so nice to see ppl here helping eachother… nice job ^^

i think most of chun’s tactics have been discussed by now but i’ll try to add some of my stuff here.

like chunbelievable said, feel free to mix up her fireballs. especially against zangief… mix up with lp mp and fp kikoukens and do super whenever he jumps. even tho the super will do little damage, chun can have her superbar back in no time by doing kikouken lightning legs repeat… or jump back sbk.

after sbk, always do lk upkicks… if the opponent tries to attack you he will get hit by your upkicks.

i landed this combo yesterday and it did LOTS of damage but ofcourse you have to be lucky and time it really well. the combo was jumping fk, standing fk xx super xx sbk. i believed it was 9 or10 hits. it ko’d the opponent even tho he had around 80% life.

u can always do upkicks instead of sbk after the super. just be sure the superbar is filled after the standing fk then you will be fine.

another thing i like to use is to keep doing kikoukens and when the superbar is almost full i will do lp kikouken, keep walking forward, standing fk xx super. most players wont expect you to store the super when the superbar isnt full yet so make sure you use advcance of this.

Good stuff esp what he said about Gief you just just gotta run!!! One knockdown can mean the match for Chun just watch this vid In the first match I was so close then boom I got hit and it was over. I actually got pretty lucky with the reverse tic throws in the second match.

I also like to zone and bate people to land on my kikkoken’s. I’m playing with anti air tactics now trying to see how to use that close roundhouse she has. Seems like that thing never comes out when you want it to :\

Yeah dude tell me about it I never played Chun seriously until HD Remix. I learned a lot here and from playing and talking with others.

LOL I do that all the time cause people don’t usually notice you got meter till its too late. You gotta be sneaky cause good players will change up their game when she has full or near full meter

Tom I’m not good at explaining what I do quite yet cause I’m still trying to figure it out half the time myself, but I’ll be posting vids as I play so just keep checking back from time to time.

BTW your Chun mirror matches where pretty tough the other night anytime you wanna do it again hit me up.

I played Thirty or so quick ranked matches today and I felt my performance improved. I added more zoning to my game instead of constant pressure and went 25-5 or thereabouts.

hey chunbelieavable we should get some matches in? :stuck_out_tongue:

We have Blue… granted it was a long time ago but I definitely remember throwing down with you. We’re on each other’s friendslists. Don’t ask me how it went though, I have no idea. I am down to play but just not mirrors, I don’t enjoy those much.

so before everyone is going to play sf4, who do u guys think is the worst opponent for chun?

to me its t.hawk! dunno why but always when i beat this guy’s life for 90% he will ko me by using cr.lp en 360’s… argh ;p i know i shouldnt do kikoukens but i cant help myself… while zangief is not much of a problem this stupid mexican guy is my worst nightmare.

luckily he isnt in sf4 haha :stuck_out_tongue:
