Chun-Li....good?

Ok this may sound stupid, but something just hit me. We all know Chun-Li is good and top tier. For god’s sake she controls the fuckin’ ground. I even thought she was good when I first got this game and knew nothin’ about it. But is she that great. Her special moves are kinda average, nuthin great. Same with her EX moves. Some characters u can rely on another super but just not as much. For Chun-Li its all about S.A. 2. All she needs is some bar and one crouching MK. So the whole time the player is constantly building bar.

I just got done watchin a few good ol vid’s on 3S. It seems to me Urien is the shit (which he all know), even though with him u have to build bar to but he has more options n shit 2 do. I’m not tryin’ to say Urien is better, but is Chun-Li really all that great. I use her from time to time and get a lil’ bored of her even if I do win every time.

What’s everyone elses thoughts?

I dunno know about you, but I have a hard time rushing with Urien. As a matter of fact, if your opponent knows how to parry and you don’t have super and you don’t know how to parry well, you are royaly screw. Urien has such a large hit box. He can’t dash under someone jumping beside Elena without worry. He has a hard time to punish Ken/Ryu (for example). And Urien anti-air move du.P sucks ass.

On the other hand, Chun Li has every single dumb and godlike moves like Ken. She has all kind of high priority moves, and the strategy with her is so damn plain stupid. I keep on getting beaten by people who just abuse her HP/j.MK/grab/super. And her dumbass combo is as easy to pull as Ken c.LK*2 > SUPER. It is no surprise that Chun Li/Ken/Yun are top tiers, while everyone else are not.

Ask Daigo how good was Chun this year.

Chun is a bit one-dimensional. That doesn’t mean she’s weak, at all.
Her strenght lies in the hand of the player, obviously.
She doesn’t have some obvious (to the new player) options like Ken does, but after a bit, learning the uses of her normals etc. she can beast.
You have to play against good opponents - she doesn’t look good against weak players, because se just wins with 3 moves and nothing else.
But looks=/=strenght

Let me put it this way…

I have beaten some pretty good players here (Austin) just using the fierce button. No throws, just b+fierce, d+fierce, neutral fierce, j.fierce, j.d+fierce, fierce fireball and SA1. With only seven options TOTAL of what to do, it is possible to win with Chun. That’s how fucking good that button is to her. Adding her kara-throw, d.forward -> SA2, close roundhouse -> SA2, overhead -> SA2, etc. just makes it sick. She deserves her spot in the top three/five/whatever. I personally think Yun is a stronger character, but only because of a far shorter bar capable of just as much damage. His other options don’t quite compare, IMO.

Also, Urien rapes people IF he gets them in an Aegis setup with at least 1/2 meter left over, I believe. Problem is, someone with the ground control that Chun has can shut that down. That match comes down to “Can I get her knocked down in the corner in two seperate rounds?” Which is to say, you get the setup, you win because you get to do in the range of 70-80% damage, sometimes 100% (if you’re RX). The fact that she can be hit by tackle -> fireball -> tackle off of d.fierce makes continuing into an unblockable much easier, and you get more damage in before knocking her down to boot. I think it should just be said that Chun wins the match unless she gets hit by d.fierce or is thrown into the corner against Urien with 1.5 or more meters.

So yeah, Chun may be one-dimensional, but so is Yang. Difference is, Chun’s game provides a much higher advantage in most matchups.

If even a douche like me can get a few wins with her, then she’s built pretty good.

Now if you’re talking about taking Chun Li, and running on all 8 the whole fight…
vs every other character with their best running on all 8…
Odds are, Chun will win over 50% of the fights.
(Losing only to Yun, Ken, and barely to Makoto/Urien)

For the rest of the world, (who seem to run on only 6 cylinders)…
She’s cheap. She’s effective. She’s 1 dimention. And it just seems to work.

Kind of like a used Saturn.

I hope I didnt get the wrong idea or impression, Chun-Li doesn’t suck at all. I guess I see her as a bit boring I dunno. I apologize for my misconception.

Just to make it clear, she is as one dimentional and boring as Cable.
Urien is more like a Strider player. You know who is a better top tier here…

And for the record, “Ask Daigo how good was Chun this year.” means that ChunLi was really good in order to reach so high and kill so many japanese players. I strongly hope this poster didn’t meant that ChunLi sucks… because even a noob such as myself can realize that Diago got a bit of luck for Justin to do his super instead of waiting for the timeout, and a lot of skill to have pull that parry on time.

chun-li is as one dimensionall as all the characters in this game…it’s how you play them.LIke whats so crazy about urien who just sits there waiting to get a super…he can’t do anything when he doesnt have one and then has to play rollettes when he does!WoA! fucking crazy.Jus cause some characters need to take like 2 extra steps, which are incredibly easy to learn, to do damage doesnt make them more …“dimensional”.Ken plays the same game chun-li does, exept he has a B&B so veryone plays him, is chen had a shitty super with a B&B like ken everyone would play her too, all “dimension” is, is flash.

RIDE THAT COCK!

Chun is gay. Especially since there’s someone at my arcade who plays Chun by holding up-back + mashing out fierce. Then upon reaching the corner, jumps the other way. And continues the gayness.

No need to cap it, girl.

Heh, I suck no one, scrub. I hate them both equally. Thanks for failing the assumption game.

Chunli is good, but I would rate her as the cable of 3rd strike. That’s my opinion though so take it with a grain of salt.

I’d say she’s 3rd place to Ken/Yun…

Really? Go read your first post again. Drop the fanboy shit already and play the game.

This thread is not about Daigo being good. It’s about Chun being good or overpowered. Contribute something, dumbass.

Heh, I’d like to apologise to the admins and mods on these boards for falling into this kids little flame bait in that response I made, as well as those in this thread. I just hope that one day we grow out of our diapers and become more mature to each other here. Sometimes I get carried away when dealing with kids :frowning:

(I had a nice bit typed out, but I’d rather you look the fool by continuing your homosexual derrogitory comments)

Chun owns the ground game with high-priority normals. For example, her crouching roundhouse is twice as flexible as a shoto’s.

Her main game imo still revolves around landing her SA2, but even with SA1/3 she can do fine because of her pokes/throw.

Sarcasm is gay. I’m not a kid anyways.

Yeah… flame baiting is fun.

But it’s all in good fun, right? Well, I typed it out in good fun. shrug I’m not going to go into the “if you weren’t like blah blah blah”, cuZ that’s retarded.

Now let’s all go make fun of the Chunscrubs together!

This is kind of going on a tangent, but it’s still ontopic I guess.

There’s this guy at my arcade that is known as “Chun-li guy,” and he’s this dorky ass whiteboy that thinks he knows shit about 3S and all he does is button mash with Chun. His favorite phrase when he loses is “damn why didn’t my super come out”…and everyone fucking knows it’s because he button mashes like a scrub!

Everyone feels an unnecessary tension when fighting this newb because of the potential shame of losing to this horrible player.

Had to get that off my chest. Haha.

Chun is #1 character.

Has a slight disadvantage to yun and maybe twelve.

Urien can fight chun decently becuase of his very long range and extra damaging combos vs her.

Ken does not have an advantage against chun.

Remember:
yun >/ chun
chun >/ ken
ken >/ yun

>/ = greater than or equal to

then throw makoto somewhere into that mix and you have top tier.
