They’re trying to make fireballs less dominating in the neutral game in general now that there’s no focus so it’s pretty much just there for basic space control or combos. You’re not going to be winning matches with it like Ryu.
Still love her. All these good buttons, V Trigger gives her combo swag and extra block stun on normals and crush counter sweep makes sweep useful. Good stuff. Need to use TK air legs more often too.
Yeah for some reason my mic wasn’t as loud as it usually is even though I thought I had the sound up pretty high. I’ll work on that for next time. Thx for watching. She’s really fun and definitely wanna explore her more during this beta and towards the release. I’ll let you know if I’m streaming again.
All good, I had to rewind and focus on a few segments to hear what you really said so it worked out. I’ll keep an eye out on your stream, Chun has always been fun to play so it’s good to hear that. I’ll hop on today and give her a try in SFV as well.
Do all these combos still work now? Trying it atm and having trouble with cr. mk xx hk SBK, and also cr. mk xx lk LL; in the one case it looks like they recover in time to block (not a problem with the lk or mk versions), and with the other it looks like the cr. lp, st. mp, cr. mk has too much pushback.
HK SBK doesn’t connect from cr.mk and you can only link after LK LL if you start with cr.hp because it moves you closer. Neither of these combos is listed though so I don’t understand the confusion.
Either way most of those combos were not optimal, here’s the updated list:
Light confirm: cr.lp, s.mp, cr.mk xx hk legs [198/322]
Punish: cr.hp xx lk legs, cr.lp xx lk sbk [232/370]
Max damage: j.hp, b.hp xx hk legs xx super [461/317]
SRK Punish/s.hk CC: s.hk CC, dash, s.mp, cr.mk xx HK legs [298/434] <<or>> s.hk CC, dash, LK legs, cr.lp xx SBK [292/450]
b.HP CC: b.hp CC, HK Legs [216/288]
V-trigger overhead: VT df.mk, cr.lp, cr.mk xx MK SBK [262/369]
V-trigger f.hk: VT f.hk, cr.lp, s.mp, cr.mk xx HK legs [304/435]
[crouch] VT f.hk, cr.lp xx LK legs, cr.lp, cr.mk xx MK SBK [326/476]
VTC combo: j.hp> cr.hp VTC > cr.hp > lk.legs > cr.lp > cr.mk > mk.SBK [343 / 493 stun]
I think that it’s the colors. Alts, like standard costumes. will have color variations. That’s why she has both yellow and dark gold schemes. At least that’s my assumption
What do I need to know for using Chun? How do I deal damage? Her normals are amazing but I still don’t have grasp on how/when to use them, st.lk is fucking good as an anti air it would not surprise me Capcom nerfing it a bit.
My favorite incarnations of Chun are ST and A2, if that gives you any perspective.
Her F+HK is still the same. Someone said it no longer low crushes, but it still does… it just doesn’t go into airborne/low crushing frames until a little bit after the startup, which is the way it has always been.
Edit: V-skill doesn’t build any v-trigger gauge on whiff. Unnecessary change imo, even with the crush counter changes.
So I just gave Chun a try, my god is she fun. I had no doubts, but I’m loving it. I feel a little disappointed with Charlie (still going to play him) but I expected more fun, and I started to worry that Chun might feel off too, but she doesn’t. I’m really happy about that.
i’m feeling kind of lost vs fireball characters without hazanshu. v-skill isn’t much of a replacement, it’s just a slightly less terrible jump. it wouldn’t be as bad if everybody else didn’t have an anti-fireball move.
Can’t she cr.MP under fireballs? It’s not as long range as hazanshu of course, but you can v-trigger cancel it to continue the combo.
On a different note, I spotted something weird with df+HK in the corner - if the opponent is fully backed into the corner it’s impossible to hit them with a df+HK no matter what spacing you start from. Not sure if it’s intentional or not but I can’t imagine what the reasoning would be behind it.
CC sweep -> dash-> whiff st.HK-> F+HK
CC sweep -> dash-> whiff f+HK (hops over), F+HK… do this one as fast as you can.
This gives me an idea of how many active frames f+HK has (a lot LOL) as the first one is a super late meaty and you can link cr. HP or sweep after counter hit if you want… not sure if you can link something that comes out slower, but I’ll test more when I get the chance. Ranked matches keep interrupting my lab work. Edit: it’s at least +8 on counterhit so you can link st. MK after (although cr. HP/HK are better options and easier to link).
