Yeah ken doesn’t even look like the same character on the select screen
Yeah, Chun is starting to look creepy in that win pose. She looks really really creepy to me. I wish they would revert that change or atleast find a middle ground. Honestly, Beta 1 Chun-Li was perfect. I don’t know why they are keeping to mess around with her.
Long as the thighs and butt stay the same I’m ok.
Skip to the 8:00 mark for some Chun action.
Chun mirror from today. We were all getting comfortable playing the game offline (match quality is pretty good here), but they shut the room off once Marvel top 8 started.
shit man this was happening near lester b? I should’ve gone. Had no idea.
Compiling all my beta 2 notes into a general matchup evernote ( i have like 12 pages on msword of me just writing what I noticed without any sort of order lol), not like it matters though cause I won’t have a chance to use any of it before launch lol. Though general matchup tips should carry over unless there are drastic changes to design in the next couple months ie everyone’s horrible cr.mk hitboxes (except karin lol) or everyone’s anti air normals getting nerfed again. Did a lot of comparisons of normal ranges over the beta and will skim back over them at release to hopefully alleviate the future matchup threads.
I’m trying to figure out Chun’s general approach to the V-Gauge, particularly the V-Reversal. On hit it will leave you at +1 (done on visuals. There’s a very tiny advantage but it’s +1/2 at best). You can counter-hit with it, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference to the hitstun. Blockstun I haven’t tested yet. Pushback from the V-Reversal is negated if you have your back to the corner. Sadly I wasn’t able to combo anything due to the minimal hitstun, but to be honest I think it would be pretty broken if Chun could score a combo from a V-Reversal! It seems the main goal is to negate the opponent’s pressure and give Chun the neutral advantage, as a few of your pokes will still be in range (st.MK seems like a good followup option).
For her V-Skill, I’ve found that the (untrue) blockstring cr.LK, st.LP, st.LP xx Fireball puts you in a good position to use it for a crossup. On hit you can replace the fireball with M Legs for a decent combo, and if the opponent is standing you can switch the second st.LP with st.LK for a tiny bit of extra damage.
V-Trigger I’m still figuring out. Chun used to be able to cancel the second hit of cr.HP but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore (as of beta 2). It was also useful for combos into EX but that’s also gone. I’ll see what else I can do with it.
Crush Counter on b.HP seems decent as a footsie tool. You can buffer in a H/EX Legs. It’s possible to use it on reaction to Mika’s charged HK. I haven’t played the matchup, but I primarily used Chun in Beta 1 and Mika in Beta 2, and I imagine Mika would have a really hard time getting in without spending the meter on V-Reversals.

[/quote]Chun looks like she’s played like she does in Third Strike but I can’t help but feel that once you activate that v-trigger, she turns into Jago or something from KI. Maybe it’s just me.
An interesting combo I found from a less than reputable source. I tried the instant stomp cancel into legs a lot in the beta and it was very difficult execution wise, good to see it has some application.
The way Dhalsims v-skill works for gaining v-gauge is how Chun’s should work as well; gain meter after landing an attack after the v-skill. Would help her out a ton.
I don’t think she needs the help. They already gave her pretty much the best crush counter in the game any ways. It’s not like she has trouble gaining V Gauge anymore with how solid b+HP is neutrally. The ability to build V Gauge with her V Skill on whiff is good enough and it stacks when you hit someone with the V Skill. You can get hit literally with like 3 fierces, whiff 3 V Skills and pretty much have a full V Gauge bar. Or land 1 or 2 crush counter b+HP’s and get hit with like 1 or 2 fierces or a combo.
Dhalsim is a different case. He has to use his V Skill just to even play footsies anymore so it’s more necessary (his walk speed and dash are so bad that he might as well not be able to walk or dash). His V Skill is more important to him than any other V Skill is to another character. It’s necessary for him to even function. Chun Li’s and most other characters’ V Skills are more situational in comparison.
Some quick 1.06 changes for chun:
vskill starts up quicker, but has smaller hitbox in the front. Also she gains no v-trigger on whiff and less on hit than in beta 2.
air lightning legs has more recovery, but you can still do the legs tech and combo into cr.lp and so on.
Clearer shot of new Chun. I personally don’t mind it, but I feel like she actually doesn’t look as Chinese here. No more cheek bones!

EDIT: Ah people are discussing this in general thread.
It’s the same face. I could tell because her eyes look exactly the same. She just smiles during the pose so face obviously “changes” due to that. On the character select screen she’s the exact same person.
Butt and thighs are also still the same. People still look at girl’s faces?
I actually like the change to her face when she smiles at the end of matches.
This is interesting. Guess they’re really placing importance on crush counter meter build. Be interesting to see if quicker v skill opens up any new combos or makes it easier to counter hit with.
What are her combos now? When the beta turned on i tryed her cr.mk, cr.lp and i guess it doesnt combo anymore.
S.mp, c.mk and c.lp, s.mp, c.mk are her main bnbs
cr.mk is +2 on hit, that combo never worked.
