Her v-trigger seems to have little to no recovery time. I saw a chun activate in front of a ken player that tried to punish with cr.mk (so something between 4-7 frames imo) and have it blocked.
I also saw players reliably activate when to opponent was mid air and punish with b.hk into juggles.
Yeah Chun Li has lots of ways to activate her VT
Aside from VTCing normals on hit we can use these set ups (I’m pulling from memory so I may miss a few)
F/B throws lead to easy activation
Full screen Kikouken
EX LLegs knocked down (you can actually charge a kikouken during this, activate, throw kikouken and walk up, V-skill, throw etc., etc.,
SBK (such as Cr. Hp xx Hk SBK, knock down lets you safely activate)
Before Anti-Air like Otori said
add that to all the normal cancels and getting VT is pretty easy really.
With it being juggle friendly off an anti-air, I wonder if you can repeat moves in the juggle like [stomp x 3 -> j. HP] x N. That would be a really good damage AA punish if so.
I pretty much agree. Her kikokens aren’t strong enough frame data wise to warrant them being charge any ways and they would most likely still lose to Ryu’s fireball game even if they were motion.
I like Capcom’s idea of getting rid of charge motions in situations where the character doesn’t need them to be charge. Chun Li only has 3 special moves in this game now that senen shuu is a command normal and fireball is the only one of her 3 specials that has regular use in the neutral. EX SBK is pretty much just going to be your reversal when you need it and V Skill is basically like a KOF small jump and the closest she has to a 4th neutral special move.
So maybe more updates to be seen?
(BTW there was no real Chun footage in the video, it was just Necalli stuff and then when Chun took the free round this happened)
I like to see something else added… target combo, a launcher that leads to air juggle, something that says yup…Chun Li is now the strongest woman in the world!
Recovery on Chuns V Trigger animation looks freaking GOD TIER
I was just checking out recent WSO sessions on their youtube channel and a chun player did it raw against a Ken player in corner , Ken player tried to punish it with Low forward xx Super but she blocked it
I dunno. Ryu has the fireball but a shitastic cr.mk. Nash has the best cr.mk but can’t cancel it. Chun has an amazing cr.mk, but her fireball is charge.
Though I’m one of those people that supports a non charge fireball for Chun, we’ve got to remember that charge motions aren’t exclusively used to to tone down really good special moves. Another way that charge motions are used is to tone down the character itself. So kikoken might not have the frame data of a charged move in general, but Chun might have the frame data of a character that deserves some moves to be charges so that her normals and walk speed don’t get out of hand.
Yeah, people are talking about Vega not feeling like Vega without charge motions, but the part of Vega that doesn’t look like Vega to me is his crappy walk speed, which might be like that because they consider fast vega with walk forward cr.mp > whatever to be too scary, and presumably if chun’s sbk became an uppercut motion, I think they’d at least have a talk about toning down her walk-speed/normals, because keeping the ability to ex.sbk after walk forward f.mp/cr.mk would be really good with her walk speed/buttons.
Vega is like Bison now where he has a lot of new ways to move through the neutral without walk speed where they probably won’t make his walk speed any faster than it is. Either way its still faster than Bisons and just a bit slower than Chun’s.
Chun is too fair. She needs to get out of hand LOL.
Footage of Chun from UK Capcom WSO Sessions. Footage of Jester Power and Makai using Chun. This is the most footage of Chun we’ve gotten in a while especially since these are actual sets of competitive players so soak it in for a bit when you got time.
One thing I noticed is that Chun’s f+MP when in V Trigger seemed to recover quick enough to safely block against Ryu’s V Reversal. Meaning she may be able to use normals other than lights to stop V Reversals when in V Trigger.
Chun’s sbk can stay a charge move. It works well that way.
But a charge fireball really weakens Chun’s mobility.
The only reason I can think of for not giving her a motion fireball is because they don’t want Chun to be as good as she can be.
I would like a motion fireball too, charge fireball just seems limiting for her in this game and I’m not a fan given the pacing in general. Doubt we’ll ever get a motion fireball but I would heavily appreciate one to complement how quickly the offensives have to be mounted and allow us to use our command normals with confidence. All theory though it might be great still.
Anyway, that WSO session really gave me some insight into how Chun is looking. My opinion? Strong. Looks like she can compete, has all of the necessary components and doesn’t seem to lack anything other than damage from confirms which is remedied by V-Trigger which gladly got showed off a little too. Only negative thing I’m seeing is how we can’t do the Lightning Legs > cr.lp from other buttons and that her crush counter doesn’t look fantastic. Oh, and that we lost the almighty air spin kick which looked dope but HEY HAHA I’M NOT SALTY ABOUT IT. :c
