Chun Li General Thread: Blue Jade

Yeah I was thinking the same, you could potentially have some form of fireball - hop - cross-up or not mix-ups coming through the woodwork as the games progresses also from knockdowns or just having good spacing in neutral, which would actually be quite a scary mix-up to have for no bar. I do think a lot of people are underestimating the hop and the scenarios you can create with it.

The Capcom guy was doing a pretty good job timing the hop to go over Ryu fireballs. Made good use of the s.MP, c.MK link also. I think she’ll come together as the beta releases and her V Trigger will make things like her senen shuu a lot more dangerous.

Yeah only thing I didn’t get was the normal legs on block. Would like to test if maybe LK Legs or something is safe at a distance and maybe just certain versions are unsafe. Other guy tried to block a lot when you can punish Chun for a crap ton of her life or at least a sweep.

Ok Chun players I buckled down and traded in my Xbone for a ps4 with the beta. My arcade stick is in limbo after giving it to gummo so I probably will be playing on pad the whole beta. Considering its a random opponent beta that shouldn’t be too bad.

I have a pc so ill be streaming as soon as the beta starts in a couple hours. I had 19 people watching me test stream the ps4 menu lol

And the man didn’t even like the post, let alone thanking. Jeez.

Anyway, beta will show if all these ā€œChun is the worst right nowā€ comments from many players are actually deserved when everyone starts to dig her techs up. I really hope they are not. Cammy especially seems like she will be a nightmare for chun.

I got quarter of an hour on training mode

When I cancelled into lk LL from cr mk or mp cr lp was too far away to hit afterwards. Cr lk was in range, but doesn’t special cancel, and can’t chain into standing lk. Standing lp was too slow.

I didn’t try standing lk at all, and I didn’t try to cancel from cr fp.

She does have hit confirms off of jabs, you can chain three cr lp and cancel the last into either lk LL or lk sbk, the latter seems better, since it knocks down, and you can do it without pre charge. I feel like it will only work when you start really close though.

Her buttons feel laggy compared to sfiv, but that could just be me, and her damage seems low without meter.

V skill, Dunno.

Never even got around to using v-trigger  totally forgot to test kara throws

Even though the servers are crazy i managed to stay like 6 minutes on the grid… here1s some very simple notes

  • her normals are really fast and have very decent range
  • links are much simpler now
  • managed to do st.mp, cr.mk, legs easily… like very easy
  • her overhead in vtrigger combo: overhead, cr.lp, cr.mk, legs
  • Air legs have height restriction so couldnt do a low tiger knee legs
  • her crossup now is jp.mk
  • couldn’t combo: cr.mk, lk legs -> cr.lp… didnt work a single time but it could be me missing the link
  • throw have decent/normal range
  • her jp.HP has the same animation jumping neutral or side jumping, bit harder to hit both hits
  • her b.HK anti air comes out fast
  • her vskill can lift oponents from a pretty far range, doesn’t need to be close

just saw momochi vs xian, the SBK combo starts with cr.hp… seems that if you start with cr.mk it wont link… i hope thats the reason

Ah okay, yeah, that makes sense, that probably still works then.

I actually was able to get tiger kneee air LL to work, it wasn’t easy though.

It does look useful to me.

TK LL is kinda like doing TK Jaguar kick with Adon in SF4, it isn’t a completely fluid input, as you must pause slightly between inputting the up motion and kick. Seems decent for safe chip if they are too close, but can be whiff punished if they decide to walk backwards out of range.

V trigger is a great way to make hit confirming into super reliable, you can play 3S and fish for cr.mk xx CA pretty easily and it does good damage. I found an ambiguous setup off of a knockdown with her v skill into toe taps, but I forgot exactly what I did. Will confirm what it was when I can get more training time.

What can she get off of V-Trigger cancels?

Got into training mode, b.MP is her Kara throw normal as of now.

Really?? Wow the cancel rules in this game are weird

Got 30 min with Chun in training, she seems pretty fun. Tried doing the momochi combo and every normal puts her too far to connect cr.lp after light LL, except when starting with her cr.hp. So it’s a combo that is only used as a punish, which is fine.

From what little time I got with Chun, roughly 10 mintues I have a few things.

One was correct in thinking St. Lp and St. Mp combo much like USF4 Juri with almost the same timing and of course can be cancelled in LLegs
It almost looks like a TC but it isn’t.

I noticed Hk, Mk and Lk LLegs were different in speed and push back but it is very minor - I’d personally compare it to SFxTk LLegs.
Hk and Mk push back too far to link Cr. Lp, so you’ll want to use Lk LLegs for that.
Hitting Cr. Lp after LLegs is really pretty easy and xx Cr. Lp into Lk SBK is better than doing LLegs again unless you want CA.
Note I said Lk because Mk I tested once and didn’t connect, did not have time to try HK I assume it’ll fall out too.

Neutral Jump TC HP only hits once. I varied the timing and still only got one Hit.
This is something I personally want to address to Capcom/Peter - it should and needs to hit twice.

I was incorrect in thinking Cr. Lp and Cr. Mk linked. It really looks like it should but I couldn’t get it.
Again this is something that should be linkable and needs to be brought to Capcom’s attention.

SF4 style Cr. Lp to St. Hp combos do not work, St. Hp is too slow on startup to combo. But we have the above mentioned St. Mp which is cancelable to offset and can lead to more damage.

V-Skill into HP TC didn’t seem to work in the corner, didn’t get the chance for midscreen. The opponent doesn’t pop very high and you have to immediately hit D+Mk to get the stomps or they’ll fall out.

I landed a 46 hit combo with CA, no big deal really - it’s super easy but the damage was only around 35-40% I’d say. Pretty weak so the meter usage may not be worth it unless it kills.

All In all V-Skill is defiantly faster than it appears in videos and she feels great overall.
With the short time I spent with her I felt right at home, she’s still my girl - lol

Nice to know at least some people got to play her and posted what they found. Thanks

Ayy Kaiten. Thought you’d left SRK or something.

From what I quickly got to play for like…3-4 minutes, all of the concerns about her damage don’t seem that important, she has a lot of options for damage conversion even if it is a little less, and V-Trigger makes her damage and ability to mix-up pretty damn good.

I did for the most part. It’s still the place for Capcom fighters tho. I don’t really have the time to practice fighters as much as I used to so I just go on here or Dustloop to look up combos in a game then get bodied online.

This is the little bit of time I got in training last night. Didn’t really get enough time to discover anything stellar, but hopefully when I get home from work and whenever the servers are fixed, I’ll stream more Chun Beta content and keep it saved as highlights/export the videos to youtube:

@Kaiten92 make that comeback for SFV, game is dope

I’ll give that video a watch, I like teasing myself with gameplay of SFV whilst I’m black screening.
