Yeah I’m just pissed what Capcom did to chun. Made her worst character in the game. I played with Chun for a while in season 1. She was strong on paper and that’s it. Nash won EVO. Mika won Capcom cup.
Air legs should have been nerfed. That’s it. That’s only thing that made chun, in theory, best character in season 1. However, even with air legs she was losing major tournaments vs Kens, Mikas, and Nash. Hell, I saw MOV lose to a guile in a tournament in season 1.
Capcom just are fucking idiots.
You literary can pick any character and have better results. New players trying to learn chun… they might as well buy a new game.
Rank is filled with Uriens, Guiles, Lauras, Cammys, Balrogs, Necalis, etc…
Gee, I wonder why. These are the new fucking top tiers. All Capcom did was shift the balance of power. They fucked over everyone who had characters in sesaon 1 and took the time to learn them. That’s why I’m pissed.
They wrote a fucking novel about how they nerfed Chun. Lol! Then turn around and buff the shit out of Urien to the point he is broken. Only Capcom can be that stupid. That’s a special kind of stupid.
Well preaching it here isn’t really going to help anything. If you want your complaints or grievances to have any influence, then go at the source and leave feedback (capcom-unity, their SFV twitter accounts, etc). I left mine a few times and kept it civil, so that hopefully it doesn’t get ignored (quickest way to get someone to stop hearing you is to start insulting them).
Playing a perfect game against someone like Balrog for like 90% of his health and then have it completely turned around and lose to a v-trigger activation -> mixup series -> stun-> K.O absolutely sucks though, I know. But right now, as far as I can tell, only two people (including myself) have mentioned to them how that sucks for Chun as opposed to the many people saying how it sucks to play against Balrog in general… so guess what that’s more likely to result in if Capcom is considering player feedback for balance? Not Chun Li getting better, that’s for sure. Edit: If you haven’t noticed, every video or interview where a known player (Infiltration, Valle, VesperArcade etc.) talks about overnerfs or characters getting the shaft, they specifically mention Nash or Alex and ALWAYS omit Chun Li from that list. So what most players are seeing and assuming is that she’s fine (or don’t want her to be good again). It’s almost entirely up to Chun Li players speaking up if they think something should be changed regarding her getting better.
Other than that I just keep practicing and labbing shit out because it’s all I can do.
It’s funny how every female character is eating for free. Meanwhile, Chun has to buy her food at extraordinary prices.
Karin = still good
Juri = got buffed …
Cammy = arguably 2nd best charc in game
Ibuki = got buffed
Laura = arguably top 5 charc in game
Chun = Worst charc in game(Maybe tied with Fang, but I still see Fangs winning regularly vs top tier)
I definitely agree that Chun-Li is way too weak and limited in options in Season 2. I think the 2 nerfs that hurt the most are changing cr.lp to 4f and making st.lk a weaker AA. I think Chun’s frame date and move set revolved around those so tightly. She has a strong neutral game but once someone gets the jump-in, all that work poking goes to waste, hence why we needed st.lk. The cr.lp allowed us to challenge others. The way Capcom worded their most recent announcement about possibly doing some changes, I highly doubt they will make a big balance update before CPT. Its only been like 1 month-ish since the changes without any REAL CPT results. Although results of some recent non-CPT tournaments do speak volumes since Nash, Ryu, Chun-Li, and Ken barely cracked top 16.
If they were to do a rebalance, I really hope they would be these changes:
revert cr.lp to 3f
revert st.lk to the AA it once was
V-gauge can be 3 bars but make that last longer than before since its 3 bars now
iALL could be like 0 or -1 on block and still remain +3 on hit
iALL +1 when in V-trigger
Just a note, it’s funny how I don’t hear alot of people complaining about Akuma’s f.hp. It’s properties are very similar to iALL and leave you + on block which can lead to more mix-ups. At least iALL required some execution…
I’m sorry, but objectively, Akuma’s f.hp is way more manageable.
Massive start-up, only connects at the end of the move, can be challenged more easily, it even has a throw box.
You can’t just throw that move out like IAL in season 1.
I already knew Capcom would obliterate Chun in season 2; but holy cow, i didn’t expect them to destroy her so much. I spent some time with Akuma and Cammy and they both feel stronger than Chun felt in S1, then i got back to playing Chun and she feels worse than S1 Dhalsim.
Is there anything Chun can do that someone else can’t already do better in this season?
Well, BrolyLegs is still putting in the work with her. Check out his streams or twitter to see some high rank Chun action. I think Lud has come around as well, but I haven’t seen any of his streams yet. Edit: Just saw half of yesterday’s archive for him.
I’ve heard people say MOV and Nuki are sticking with her in S2, but I’m having a hard time finding any archived footage other than what’s already been posted.
This is the most frustrating part. It’s so obvious that Cap nerfed Chun as a vindictive punishment for season 1. Everything that they took from her is still present in the game in other characters. There are still characters with braindead pressure that leaves them plus. And some of them can instantly tick grab you after. Iall might have been strong but at least it didn’t give a 50/50.
There are still characters with fast, easy, consistent anti airs AND characters with strong jab anti airs. At least chun’s s.lk is angled upward and is clearly meant to be used as an anti air. Ryu still has a jab that anti airs AND has a hit box behind his head ffs. It doesn’t even visually make sense.
There are still characters with solid buttons, walk speed and a good cross up. Capcom might as well have just taken her cross up away. The hit box for j.mk is so bad and her jump is so slow half the cast can literally just walk away from it and avoid it completely.
The throw buff is negligible. She still has the shortest throw range of any character lol. And there are plenty of characters with just as fast walk speed, just as good buttons, better anti airs and pressure that still have better throw range.
The only reason to play Chun in season 2 is out of character loyalty, which I’ll continue to do because I’ve played Chun in every fighting game I could, but the struggle is real. All of the areas where Chun used to shine have been taken from her but still exist in other characters.
I don’t even like to complain but I feel like I lost every set I played today (some I played horribly because I suck) but some I played my ass off just to lose to my opponent taking advantage of easy things. And it’s all because people cried about Chun last year, not because of design choices. So frustrating… I guess I just needed to vent.
The sad thing is you can still win with her but now it’s almost more frustrating than rewarding.
You can just look up Nuki’s CFN for his Chun stuff. He actively plays online and karozzo or fredchuckDave usually post his stuff on their youtube channels.
MOV mostly plays offline from what i know so not going to find as much footage
MOV’s CFN is tokyOsou, but he shares it with other players; from what i’ve see he is still in off-season mode, not playing much SFV at all, and i think he’ll likely change to a stronger character when he goes back to playing seriously.
Nuki will drop SFV before he drops Chun (like he did with 4 when they killed her in that game), he’s been maining her forever. He seems to be getting dunked by every top tier and even against lower tiers the matches are very close and he wins mostly by going nuts with instant air stomp.
Overwatch loot boxes have pissed me off by being overly random and not giving me good stuff so I’m playing SF5 to get back into fighting shape.
My understanding of how to use Chun in season 2 is getting clearer.
I realized how much the air throw nerf hurt by fighting a neutral jumping Mika last night.
Usually I could just go straight up and mash throw to catch her, not so anymore. St. Lk just gets counter hit too often to use reliably.
the most consistent Anti Air Chun has is B+Hk and oddly enough…St. Lp
I do my best to use J.Hp though as you get a nice mix up a’la season 1
If it hits once you have EX SBK for extra damage if it his twice - cross up or not and pressure for there.
It reminds of me Super4/AE days though, really have to work hard to win.
It is funny when you get A/A by Ryu, Alex or Geif by Lp and you go…I thought LP anti airs were nerfed?
I almost feel like the game is way more random than season 1 was.
They raped Chun. It was obvious. Man if only Chun actually fucking controlled like how she should:
GOOD Throw game. Fast walk speed, good buttons. No combos… or at least very few. Chun used to be a spacing/footsies queen that funnels you into her throw game. Now she’s just kinda terrible at lots of stuff and has to use her good pokes and walkspeed to do EVERYTHING.
One of the biggest tragedies of sfv is the removal of strong safe on block specials to cancel into. Chun having a charged special and no good way to advance forward safely.
What should have happened to iall if they didn’t want to give Chun an actually good throw range, was to make iall +0 on block and +2 on hit. Take away the free combo but give her advantage for frame traps or pressure.
Sf5 is just very badly designed in general though. It isn’t just Chun.
It always sadden me when someone as hard to use effectively as Chun is low to mid tier. I mean seriously why put all of the effort and execution when you can use way easier characters and get better results.
Lets say that you decided to wakeup buttons with Chun. What are you gonna get ? cr.LP, cr.MK xx MK SBK. Is that it ? Someone dumb like Laura on the other hand can do cr.LP,st.MP, VTC combo and get upwards of 500 damage from that combo and a reset. Or Rog or Urien or whatever…
I have said it and will say it again, i don’t think it is good for the game to have fundamentals reliant characters/ honest characters be bad. Season 1 Laura wasn’t an honest character and she was a mid to lower mid tier. Now just because of her playstyle, the player could always get a win with a couple of guesses. She didn’t need particularly good tools.
Now lets look at this season where honest characters like Ryu and Chun have to bust their asses an entire round while playing with inferior tools while the top tiers are still the guys with the touch of death ability. Basically they have to play a perfect game to win.
Basically the way i see it.
honest characters = upper mid to top tiers at minimum.
Mixups/vortex characters = mid to lower mid because their playstyle will grant them win on guesses regardless, they don’t need to be particularly " solid ".
That is the way it should be in my eyes. Honest characters **needs ** to be good enough to stop the dunk masters, otherwise we will have what we have now. The game is full of dunk masters with only Guile being solid enough to hang with them.
It is just a crazy opinion but whatever, i am really not that happy with Chun,Ryu,Nash and even to a lesser extent Karin all fall from the grace. It might make it more fun to watch but am not sure it results in a better game, for me at-least.
I can’t make sense of the st.lk nerf. They already made it 5 frames startup, so it has the startup of a medium button, but the priority of a light button. I think that alone would suffice, but they proceeded to cover the hitbox inside a hurtbox while Necalli and Ryu still aa with a 3 frame button. I don’t get it.
I just accepted the way Ryu is this season. It’s really disappointing how capcom just went ham with the nerfs to chun, ryu, mika, and Nash. This will be my last post in awhile for this thread, goodluck to all the Chun li users here thats sticking with her
