Perhaps Chun needs to be played more turtly. She did have hard time getting in during S1 and like he said that is when IALL came in. However, there was other options like dash up cr.MK into EX legs ( That used to catch a LOT of people offguard. )
I haven’t played yet so i can’t judge how good or bad st.LK is now.
I don’t know what is Jin talking about as in footsies the only thing you can 1 hit confirm is her cr.MK. It is good but not THAT amazing. I will reserve my judgement until i actually get to play with her.
It is funny that the best Chun player (MOV) couldn’t win Cap cup with a character that had no bad matchups. I wonder what will he do now ?
I kind of agree. Though I will have to test them out more thoroughly.
To me the lk version is way more inconsistent. Especially when trying to use the 236963 method I have to delay pressing the lk button and the timing feels more strict. For neutral jump method both the lk version and the mk version are about the same in terms of execution.
I kind of wish they eased the execution of air legs now that they nerfed their in-game properties.
@Painguin Yeah LK airlegs feels very hard to do with the method you just described. I would always have much better luck when i do it manually than with the shortcut. The MK version is hella risky though, cause it is very easy to whiff from the videos i have seen. Plus changing your potential combo route based on it, it is way too much risk and work to be frank.
I just don’t know. I really can’t understand the nerf to the post air legs combos when the move has already became -2. Then they had to take it a step further and introduce the whiffing on crouching BS… Sigh…
I am more worried about Chun now than i was about Mika. Mika still has her corner and her oki is lessened mid screen but she still has Oki. Fundementally she isn’t different. They took away her cr.HP, Clap in footsies, mid screen wall but she still have the corner and the throw Oki.
Chun on the other hand got worse buttons, worse fireballs, worse anti-airs, worse pressure, worse defense (3 frame cr.LP into cr.MK on wakeup was huge), worse damage. I guess she has a better crush counter options but with the lack of meterless reversals these options will be even harder to come by.
Its hard to win Capcom Cup. Especially when 2 of your rougher matchups got into top 8.
Yeah c.mk ex legs or lk legs into c.lp if you’re close enough. Plus I think there’s other routes people will discover.
IALL I didn’t have much problem hitting on crouching people. Just do it low enough.
The thing about Chun Li is that she has always been a character of discovery in this game. If people didn’t figure out late cancel sbk and instant legs we’d be playing a different Chun. Shes not likr Necalli where the tools are just sitting there and you input them at the right time.
With all of the new changes Chun got I feel that with people creating tech and cracking her out we’ll get an interesting Chun. They wouldn’t just throw all of that shit in without it turning into something
Haven’t played yet But the anti-airs are the thing that annoy me the most now. I can take having worse offence if it means that my good defense remains intact. B.HK will remain a good close range AA but the far range space that the st.LK used to occupy might be a serious problem if we can no longer contest there. Perhaps we will just have to focus more efforts into that st.HP ranger where a jump in from that range would be anti-airable with B.HK.
Well you would have liked beta 1 Chun. Kara throw had nearly 3S quality range and her IALL was even better because it was before it got the first hit box nerf.
Found some matches of GO1 playing Season 2 Chun. He’s adapting pretty well and is making IALL work. Considering he was the first real top level rushdown oriented Chun it looks like he’s surviving. He was great at working IALL into the shimmies and most of the time they would hit because he would use them right at the point where they wanted to tech a throw. If they block, oh well only minus 2 not the end of the world. Karin bullies people with a minus 2 speical also.
He was also using s.LK at a spot that was difficult for people to jump in on. There seems to be a sweet spot right behind people’s jump ins if you use it early where you’ll hit them in their back foot and stuff them.
He’s also using s.MP, c.HP, HK SBK as his new go to bnb in V Trigger.
IMHO the only real buff Chun got was the range extension to cr.hp. I was expecting this specific change the moment IA Legs becoming -2 on block was leaked. IA Legs was Chun’s compensation for having a terrible jump, horrible throw range and weak shimmy game(was basically just cr.mk->legs). The new cr.hp does improve her shimmy game and at the same time give Chun a new bnb combo.
This combo is easy to hit confirm and does even more damage than her Season 1 highest damage bnb being:
st.mp(CH), cr.mk->mk.sbk 229 damage/370s.
After the season 2 nerfs to sbk damage the combo now does 214. So not only do you gain more damage, stun but also more meter too as you use 2 special moves in the same combo. That said the st.lp->lk.sbk part will take time to get down if you didn’t practice the cr.lk, cr.lk/lp, st.lp->lk.sbk combo back in Season 1.
That said, the nerfs she got together with the system changes(jumping being even better now) are crippling. It is just insane how far they went with the nerfs to appease those who were clueless about this character.
Cammy looks hella good to me. She was already strong yet they buffed her and now she has all the tools she had in season 1 and then some. It is amazing how she has come out of this nerf bloodbath unscathed. Only thing that has been nerfed is ex Canon Strike, which can be worked around by aiming below the opponent’s waist.
And Rashid. My goodness his damage potential has increased huuugely.
I am baffled that Cammy’s buttons got better. Her’s were already super good to begin with. Back in S1 people were saying that Cammy is an easier and arguably just as effective Chun-Li. Now i don’t think there will be a contest anymore.
Doesn’t help that Cammy hits like a truck and her anti-airs are still as good as ever. She still have AA DP into super… sigh…
I definitely do agree that Cammy already was better than Chun in Season 1 and yeah, things could be more skewed now that meterless DP characters actually retain meterless invincibility (just activate on frame 3 which still allows a lot of uses). It’s a weird change because nerfing them to 3rd frame active I think actually indirectly buffs the DPs since now meterless DP characters will just have an advantage of being able to disrespect attacks in neutral (and Cammy’s meterless DP still gets projectile invincibility on the 3rd frame as well).
The meterless DP thing was basically just a move the goal post thing. With the smoke cleared having a meterless DP will still give those characters in inherent advantage, just in one or 2 less situations. It’s still a free advantage to have a meterless DP and they still give you meterless invincibility in key situations.
With normal anti airs getting nerfed for a lot of characters it’ll also be more important to have a meterless DP since you’ll get a guaranteed AA as long as you time it to get to the 3rd active frame.
Still Chun has what she needs to be very competitive and I believe high mid tier ATM at worst. People will also stick with Chun because Cammy players already complained about Gief in Season 1 and Gief has basically gotten better in Season 2. A one frame faster s.MK and a plus 3 s.MP isn’t going to make her beat Gief. Which makes Chun Li at bit less of a risk matchup wise vs him. She’ll most likely still have slight advantage or advantage over Gief since s.HK beats his jumps and half his buttons and s.HP, c.MK or c.MP beats everything else still.
Other than Guile I don’t see anyone Chun will have huge matchup problems with so again people will most likely flock to her for stable matchups.
hi, i got this game like 3 weeks ago and my son broke my cd and i haven’t had the time get a new one. But i have one question, does the cr lp, st mp, cr mk to spinning bird kick still works? i had just mastered that lol. i tried to do cr lk, cr lp, st lk, to spinning bird kick, but i have trouble with it in the past so i just let it go and went with the first one.
thanks for letting me know, i love that combo because when i try to tick throw and I get jab out of it or light kick out of it. I know that they like to spam light attacks on block, what I do is cr lp, st mp, cr mk to spinning bird kick. the st mp will hit as a counter attack and it lets me hit confirm the spinning bird kick for a full combo to a set up.
Btw, cr. LK, cr. LP, st. LP xx SBK only works on crouching opponents. It pushes back too much on standing opponents. The only 3-hit confirms I know that works on a standing opponent now is cr. LK, cr. LP, cr. LK xx Legs or cr. LP, cr. LP, cr. LK xx Legs.
You can do cr. LK x3 xx Legs on a crouching opponent.
