Chun Li General Thread: Blue Jade

The timing for it feels really odd. What you do is wait a little bit after the cr.mk like as soon as you see the animation start ending hit up to release sbk. I find it easier to do it with the light version. You’re giving up a little bit of damage but you’re getting the knock down.

I’ve been using f.hk more and if you hit on the later frames you can link st.lp into legs

Edit: you actually have enough time to charge SBK from the f.hk lol

I couldn’t do it for the first 2 days, but today, I’m hitting it 95% of the time in matches.

The combo really comes down to two things. You gotta hit the down charge 1 frame after you press MP, and you gotta cancel into the LK SBK as late as possible. cr.MK has a special property that allows it to be cancelled much later than a regular normal. I’d wager the most common reason people are missing this combo is because they are not waiting long enough after the cr.MK.

I know mostly for me, i start my crouch the moment I start Chun-Li’s Cr MK. But I’m gonna try doing it right after she executes her St. MP. I think that will help me. Thank you

Yeah you have to do it so fast you almost get cr. MP. It is weird. Like the opposite of doing cr. MP which is down->MP or down +MP do MP->crouch.

I am starting to get the hang of cr.LP, (link) st.MP, (link) st.MK ~ MK SBK myself.
Another thing to consider (though almost everyone in this forum is already aware of this) is the fact that cr. MK can cancel into MK SBK a tad later in its animation. As if to say, Chun Li’s outer (albeit hypnotizing) leg is in the process of circling backwards after the hit sparks. Then it will still combo after the fact but it looks a bit suspicious and it gives the player the idea that it my not even combo properly.

Does well against Mika and Gief imo. They have to kinda hail mary to get a knockdown and if it isn’t a CC sweep you can just backroll it. They definitely don’t win the neutral, but their damage is so high that if they get a solid hit you could just die.

Yeah that’s my visual cue. As soon as c. mk hits and her hitting leg extends in full and is on the way back, that’s the perfect time to do SBK. Any earlier and you’ll probably end up doing it wrong.

Plus you can always do lk sbk instead if mk sbk is too hard at first. Not a lot of difference if knockdown/setup is what you’re looking for.

Wow… This game… Sigh. Depth shouldn’t be in confirms imho. That’s just dumb. Depth should be in spacing and neutral options.

Anyways… This game:

Chun CH cr.lp x2, st.mp wiffs on the entire cast. It wiffs against crouching and against standing.

BUT IT HITS ON CH.

But there’s yet another caveat to this:

It only hits on CH against a crouching opponent.

Yeah that’s right. ONLY against crouchers that got counterhit.

Tested against ken and cammy.

This game and it’s artificial “depth”

How do you punish Nash’s “Jaguar Kick” looking move with Chun Li?

Air throw, b. HK, st. jab, st. LK, and if you time it right b. HP can work but generally not recommended since the others are more reliable and messing b. HP up makes you eat a combo.

I am a MvC2 player and I cannot get this to come out consistently, I also noticed Ricky O missing some last night on WNF.

I’ve had no probs so far. qcf+uf (or 2369 if you prefer that notation) works fine for me

Still haven’t quite figured out some go to setups after EX LL/MK SBK yet. At the moment I find myself fishing for meaty/ranged F.HK into bnb. Any other suggestions?

Try 23693 K

2369 K doesn’t work for me either but if you go back to 3 and then press K it’s pretty consistent.

Had a bit of fun on SFV.
I’m actually considering maining Chun Li instead, while subbing the other characters.

I had a few long sets with other Chun Li players via Battle Lounge (and a handful of ranked matches). Very fun matches. What seems to scare a lot of people is… walking forward. Chun Li can just walk into your house, look into your refrigerator, grab your booze, takes over your household like its her property and then she sits down in your couch and says “Watchu’ gon do? Instead of standing there dumbfounded, why don’t you gimme a leg massage!” As the player walks forward, Chun Li has the buttons to keep the opponent from doing anything (sort of like how the AI in Mortal Kombat II does). They have to anticipate what the opponent is “trying” to do. If the opponent jumps, she can whack them down with st.LK or b+HK. The player can also time their projectiles to control the opponents movement, zone around a bit, and/or start an offense. All of that plus, useful BnB’s and pokes for keeping the opponent at bay until you generate momentum and meter for winning the match.

As for myself, I have my problems that I need to deal with. The timing of my projectiles are awkward/terrible and I am not taking advantage of the opponents knockdown state as I should be. I also need to stop over-relying on neutral jumping while under pressure. Last, I keep underestimating how good her V-Trigger can be, especially when converting into big damage and juggles into super. -_-

After playing SFIV for so many years (and holding down back for most of that time) I had forgotten how much fun Chun can actually be to play.

yeah, Chun is gud in this game, i using her speed forward to do normals  and so on. the only problems i have now is that i don’t do well in heavy pressure and throw counter,i always can’t react in action to counter throw lol,or cross up, and stupid ryu spam shoryuken whatever i press and so on,cammy is the worst MU i guess, i got outpoked by anything i press lol,

Anybody found good use for her v-reversal besides cutting some pressure?
I mean, Karin v-reversal for example knocks down to a certain distance and she can pressure after that.

Just use it to keep from being stunned. No use other than that imo
