I definately think it’d be worth looking into for combos.
Desk had uploaded at one point Air throws from Guile, Ibuki, Chun and Vega for coming in off Cross Rushes/LMH(H)
But your partner need to either launch them high enough or grant the incoming character; in our case Chun Li, enough of a launch point to push the opponent high enough to grab.
Thankfully with two different juggle options B+Mk and Cl.St.HK it gives us some flex room
I know with last nights tests:
Juri launching and Chun doing Cl.St.Hk xJCx into one MK stomp as EARLY as possible I can Air throw some opponents. Mostly larger characters and couldn’t grab Cammy sized characters for shit. Even then it was not a very successful percentage, I mean I had to get it really early.
Try some with your partners and see if you can’t get better results. It may just be something my team can’t do – oh well - they can do so much already, haha!
So I just switched out my Hwoarang for Chun. My team is Chun/Nina. I’m starting to realize why the SF cast is so superior to the tekken cast in certain areas. Anyone else play Chun/Nina and know some good combos for them?
Yeah I dunno why Justin continues to use that post launcher setup with Chun, he’s missing 20+ pts of damage and better screen positioning on opponent’s wake up. Good use of St. Hk xx Launcher against Geif.
While I think Ricky uses Chun more effectively in SFxTk he doesn’t optimize damage, going with a weaker post launcher combo than Justin.
I like Ricky’s solo approach with her too he missed a few links early but his fight with Valle he was looking much better, good stuff.
Well see that is what doesn’t make sense to me.
In the patch notes it said J. Hp was going to cause Hard Knock Down; so I’m confused as hell really, clearly it does not.
Maybe on counter hit? I dunno Ricky nor Justin used it as an Air-to-Air tool unless I missed it.
I’m really looking forward to Combofiends video on Chun Li as he’s noted significant changes to the cast members.
I was always more concered with HSUs changed hurt box - not sure how that effects her move, but she looks largely unchanged in general.
and although I’m not a twitter guy, I would like to tell Ricky to stop using Ex Kikouken, B+Mk in the corner, mid-screen is still okay but
reason being Ex Kikouken grants enough frame advantage to get in and do Cl.st.Hk xx LLegs in the corner for more solo damage and better swtich cancel possibilities with no juggle counts.
I’d tell him a few other things too. One in particular I just found with me team and after watching his matches I think it’ll work with Rufus too, but I kinda like to keep some tech, haha. I feel really cool when I find stuff, I get all gitty.
So in the v. 2013 demo video for chun li (currently on the SRK front page), dawgtanian mentions that chun li has some great pandora options off her jump cancelled HK. any ideas what he’s talking about?
I don’t know if you can do it in this engine, but it’s pretty common to be able to cancel a jump cancel into things like supers in other games. Ibuki was able to jump cancel into her ultra in SF4, for example. Presumably you can cancel the roundhouse into a jump, then cancel the prejump frames into Pandora.
Hmm I’m thinking about picking up this game soon don’t know when but its on my sights now. So for teams I was thinking using Elena/Lei/King? Do you have thoughts on any of these characters?
Also is it a viable strategy to use Pandora +Dmg Gems with Chun’s Super art to punish thing’s or is it not a good idea in this game
Using pandora as a punish can be pretty risky. If chun’s super doesn’t kill, you won’t have much time left to do more damage. However, a gem set based around pandora can be very effective.
Just trying sfxt again since the patch and picked up chun li. Not sure what the usual combo is after tag in, but the one im doing which i think is quite nice is:
[Chain Launcher to Chun] cl.HK, j.dMK, j.HK, st.HP xx hcf+HK
After that you do a light kikoken and if they quick tech the kikoken will meaty, if they chose to roll you can walk back slightly and throw punish.
I’ve been playing this game for the past few days… Chun is a lot of fun with her lightning legs pressure. I still can’t find anyone that I like to pair her with though. So far I’ve gone through:
Nina (boring)|
Rufus (Don’t like the nerfs they gave him to his divekick game. That was why I liked him in the first place.)
Christie (Lack of wakeup options. Poor strings… Only good thing is her pokes.)
Poison (She’s just not very good. Everything is hella unsafe. Plus her with Chun = no damage.)
Ryu (I just didn’t find very good synergy between the two.)
Juri (Don’t like how she plays. Plus combos do more damage with Juri on point but I want to play Chun 1st.)
Elena (I don’t think they have good synergy.)
Lei (Didn’t like playing him. He’s much slower than I expected and he’s a little wonky. I don’t like having to switch between all those stances. I like having all my options available to me when I want.)
Then I don’t want to use Cammy and Sakura because they will be my 2nd team for fun with friends who don’t play the game.
I hate finding a good team. Took me forever to find one I liked in MvC3 too.

Chun and Juri can be pretty nasty; you just need to know how to maximize both of them as one and they are totally the queens of corner domination.
But at anyrate here are few characters to try with Chun-Li that I found very effective:
Ken, crazy effective, can’t believe I haven’t seen any pros using them. They can reseverse all meter usage for switch cancels, don’t need rely on juggles keeping the opponent grounded and have numerous ways to launch-relaunch opponents for free tag-ins
Law, I don’t think they are as effective together but the damage output and abilities from Law to get Chun-Li back in such as his junkyard kicks and FFRs lead to some good damage as well.
Asuka, if you don’t mind her weak ass normals - they flow pretty good together
Sagat, I’d say damage is moderate but the sheer effectiveness of frustrating your opponent makes them one of the most terrifying teams in the game on a zoning basis.
Dudley, similar to Ken as a teammate - good damage, easy switch cancels with no need to juggle opponents for damage.
Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll give them a try. I’m also planning on trying out Xiaoyu and Julia with Chun to see if I like them. As for Juri… I might give her another chance. I just didn’t like having to hold down a button and essentially losing that option when storing a fireball. But that might change when I learn her better.
