I thought the cross assault was pretty cool and very very damaging.

such a dissapointment – B+Mks are not Chun’s best damaging tag-in combo people…
I was really hoping to see some new tech or something.
The people I’m playing know all of Chun’s tricks so it is incredibly difficult to go offensive – throw in autoblock b.s. nearly impossible

Why would you play auto-blockers?

Since the DLC Characters are out i wanna Chun pair with one of these. I’m interested in these Characters:
-Bryan
-Christie
-Lei
-Alisa
-Cody
-Guy
Which of these Characters would you guys recommend for me and why. Looking forward for your answers :smiley:
My current partner for Chun ist Jin. They work great together but i want to try something new!

With Chun Li, go with Lei aka the Chinese Supercop team.
Or you may go with Cody as Chunny’s “pet prisoner”.

A while back, I was disapointed with this games chun li. Give me back that snappy Hosenka motion! I went looking for charge characters, only to find that they are all jerks. I realize now that you can almost pretend that you’re charging, because you can just hold downback and shortcut the HCFs. L. Legs just feels so awkward. It will never be the same for me. I’m sure other people have the same dilemma.

Nope! People are mostly happy she’s not her charge character SF4 self. The tiers and the usage reflect it too.

I’m new to Chun-li in this game and I’ve been looking to pick her up on the side with Nina or Lilli. Anyways, what are some basics that I should be doing with her.

Very wide range of reponses I could give you but you said “Basic” so I’ll stick with that.

First up - Ground Control.
Using her Kikoukens you can keep people safely at bay from 3/4 to full screen away, Going 1/2 screen can be risky due to several cast members abilities to go thru projectiles anything less than 1/2 screen she won’t recover in time to anti air or block.
Her far reaching and fast normals such as Cr. Mp and St. Mp can easily be chained for cross rush and st. mp can be canceled into her specials
spacing is highly important with Chun Li due to her lack of reversals and all around defensive options. Sense you played as Ibuki in SSF4 you should be fine on spacing with Chun Li, because Ibuki is very spacing dependant and you have to be patient to get in – really it is the same with Chun Li.

her easiest Cross Rush confirms are C.Lk, C.lk > St. Lk or Lp > St. Mp > St. Hp (HP)
note that Chun’s Cl.St.HP is what comes out in the chain which is a cancelable normal. In this situation canceling into EX Kikouken is a solid option that is frowned upon by opponents. You have enough frame advantage to continue back around to St. Mp or other screen position-dependant combos
This also frees up one of Chun’s best resets by canceling the St. Mp xx Mk Hsu, which again can grant you enough frame advantage to continue your combos
(see my most recent posts in the video section to see me take nearly half of Kazuya’s health with this simple reset all with Chun-Li and no gems)

Second - Air control.
Going Air-to-Air has not worked really well for me in this game and Chun Li is always at her strongest when grounded anyway
should the situation arise - J. Hp x 2 causes a juggle state (follow up with Mk Stomps, Cl.St Hk xx Hk LLegs or St. Mp xx Lk Hsu or Hk LLegs
Neutral Jump Hk (also a good anti-roll out move)
D.F Lk is a decent Chun Li anti air move that causes a juggle state
St. Mk is her best Anti Air
St. Hp is a little wonky
Air Throw I never use – haha
most important thing to remember with Chun is you have to be on point with her anti air moves or you’ll get beaten out/trade

Thridly - Pressure Game
the number of combos and mix up possibilities I’ve been using are too many to mention all here - plus I gotta save a little something for myself
Best links C.Lk, Cr. Lp which lead to several setups from B+Mks, St. Mp or Cr. Hp
Cl. St. Hk is jump cancelable same as B+Mks (keep in mind B+Mks is a target combo therefor starts to damage scale pretty quickly)
D/F Hk is good mix up to keep in mind but not something to throw out without a solid purpose
Chun Li’s throw is pretty solid on this game and safe jump from SSF4 still exists, Throw - step forward and J. Hk or J. Lk

St. Mpxx LLegs or Cr. Hp xx LLegs are great for locking an opponent down even if they are blocking
but if Chun is low on health you can tag her out during LLegs which scoring some pretty decent chip damage

Laslty Tag Situations
Cross Rush (Chun coming in)
Cl.st.Hk xJCx follow with your choice
B+Mk TC xJCx follow with your choice
are the two options you have, anything else isn’t damage worthy
Swith canceling (Chun coming in)
B+Mk TC xJCx is likely going to be your best tool depending on your partners set up
I’m currently working on some tech with my team, which if it works out I’ll post it as it could work with other partners as well.
*important note on B+Mk, if you bring Chun Li in during an opponents juggle state you can only do as an example:
B+Mk, Mk (TC xJcx) J. Hk, Cl.st Hk xx Hk LLegs
if your opponent is grounded say from Ken’s Tatsu – this give Chun Li Jump cancelable options during her combo extension so:
B+Mk, Mk (TC xJCx) J. Hk, Cl.st. Hk xJCx Mk Stomps x 3 or 1 Mk Stomp and J. Hk (that Stomps x3 sets up an interesting Oki opportuntiy)

Wow thanks Rayartz for that informative reply, I was gonna ask the same thing too. Seems like you’re the Sensei of the Chun-Li sub forum.

I recently picked her up because of her awesome pokes, target combo and interesting moves with tag cancel potential. I main Yoshimitsu, anything really seems to be a step up from Yoshi - crappy normals, stupidly short range and speed but I like him for his gimmicks and great tag cancel moves. It would also help with his bad matchups.

Gonna check out the combo thread, I have some memorized but I’d like to increase my damage output with her.

I’m not sure about the sensei part but I always play as her no matter how crappy or good she might be in a game.
and i need other players to help find shit! haha. Like my Anti-Rog tech (fought one yesterday and he rage quit)
Unfortunately damage isn’t Chun Li’s strong points, which makes sense as she’s so well balanced in other areas.
It can sort of be offset via the right gems, but I think she beneifts more from others. (all play style dependant of course)
at any rate her most damaging solo combos will depend on screen positioning and like all other incarnations of Chun Li will require meter
so use you partner as she really shines with a solid teammate- watch Vulcan Hades for Yoshimitsu tips, personally feel he’s the best Yoshi I’ve fought.

SIDE NOTE
did some testing with my team and revaluating Chun’s switch cancels – still want to test a few things but it is not working like I hoped.

Yeah I’ve been playing Yoshi since day one and VH definitely helped my gameplay.

I really like Chun-Li’s jump cancel stuff and her target combo carry, I’ve played a heap of rounds and won (most were not all that good however) but I just need to work on footsies and execution. I use a controller - and the thumbstick as opposed to the d-pad. I just can’t do movements as well by just knobbing over the 360’s dish d-pad with my thumb. Most of the time I can hit confirm into the b.mk target combo but I miss the jump link or the s.hk jump cancel follow up because I’m a few degrees off the ‘diagonal’ and end up jumping straight up or not at all. Get so annoyed when that happens.

I also made a C ranker rage quit by just doing df. hk, s. hk and cr. hk as oki at max range, also I like your YT vids - I also play Juri with Yoshi. That was great because when I came onto the forums for Yoshi tech I found Vulcan Hades who mains the same team and he’s beastly.

No worries on using the analog stick with the controller. before I used an arcade stick the analog was my preferred method during my early SF4 days.
I just kept in mind to ‘exaggerate’ my motions and the inputs began to work out.

any rate back to Chun Li
Cl St. Hk is highly underestimated in Chun’s arsenal. I feel the hit box needs to be little wide because somtimes you’ll be right on top of someone and not get
Cl. St.Hk so it helps to push forward while you are doing it.
but if you look at it from a neutral wake up situation you can use these:
Cr. Lp, Cl. St. Hk xx Lk HSU (continue to cross rush on hit confirm/cancel to Ex Kikouken - potential HSU reset, mix up - rape - 50% opponent health gone)
Cr. Lp, Cl. St. Hk xx Hk LLegs (great for switch cancels on hit or block)
Cr. Lp, Cl. St. Hk xx Ex Kikouken (only on hit confirm though – don’t want to waste meter), Follow up options with B+Mk or Cross rush or St. Mp xx LLegs - switch cancel = tons of damage
Cr. Lp, Cl. St. Hk xJCx - J. Lk cross up or neutral jump Hp x 2

great links I’ve been using Cr. Lk, Cr. Lp, Cr. Hp xx into whatever I want at the time
more useful tactics - Cr. Lk (fake a cross rush) Cr. Lk, Cr. Mk xx HSU (very range dependant, curse this games stupid Cr. Mk hit box)

if you see a roll out walk up during their roll and Cl.St. Hk the wake up or D/F Hk

wow thanks for the elaborate responds, I’m currently trying to find a sub team. I’m using Poison & Nina right now, and I have always been a Chun-li fan on and off so this helps.

Going along with the Anti-Balrog tech
I’ve found it useful for Anti-Dudley as well

Bait a duck under with Kikouken’s, Mash on B+MK TC xJCx your favorite combo and completely take away Dudley’s options to get around Kikoukens – glorious
Chun can effectively take away both boxers approach game, Anti Air and ground control supreme.

Now here’s praying she doesn’t recieve any nerf hammers in ‘2013’

Hopefully she gets an AA buff cuz I suck at it at the moment lol

fwd throw, dash 1x, j.lk is safe against everything I’ve tried so far if they do not roll, and crosses up. beware of alpha counter.
