for people that live in places with real mexican food its probably hot garbage, but to us canadians where you’re lucky to even see a real live mexican in your life, thats the holy grail of mexican food

There are Chipotels in Vancouver and the greater Toronto area. There is one in the mall by my house lol have tried it yet hopefully its not ass and there are no M16s.
This is what kills me. Mexicans don’t have a magic power to make Mexican food. Anyone can follow a fucking recipe and make that shit.

Huuuuuuuuuge difference between the stuff you get at random restaurants and the stuff you get from actual Mexicans since, you know, one group of people have a lot of experience cooking the food and others don’t.
Definitely the same with Puerto Rican food. You can taste right away when somebody who didn’t spend time in PR tried to make it.
You can follow a recipe? You can cook the same food.
a lot of the ingredients are seasonal. Also, without the internet, the lack of Mexicans in Canada made getting authentic mexican recipes kinda difficult. I think the only tortilla’s I can even buy are Old El Paso ones.
It’s not the difficulty in the meal, it’s the lack of knowledge of what even IS a mexican meal. When I went to Mexico years ago, I was flat out amazed that Tortilla Soup even existed, for instance.
All we know about is whatever Taco Bell sells.
The only problem is that the authentic recipes are either taught by word of mouth or on paper, the recipes I see online or in books are approximations at best.
Even stuff that most black people call soul food is simply a guess based on what they know, my family still uses my great grandmother’s recipes , our cooking is hands down better than most cheap imitations at ‘soul food’.
These niggas think you dump grease and gravy on anything and it adds taste,
even shitty imitations are better than things like taci bell, c hipotle, etc.
It’s nothing to do with imitations up here though. Just a complete lack of knowledge. Like if i asked you to make me some authentic Russian food, you’d have to research that shit probably.
In all my life i only ever met one Mexican, and he was born and mostly raised in Phoenix. I guess sneaking past two borders just isn’t in the cards
