Real talk -mostly to ari (ty for the grats) but also to everyone:
My observations for SF4 chicago scene from going to evo and fight it out3: Chicago level is still the same, as spriggan said. You got 1 qualifer in top 128 out of 1040 (Ari), and the rest all 5th places aka won 6-2 yet still failed to qualify their pools (me, humbag, kobayashi, spriggan ). Not sure if GLB aka FIRST PLACE when ari’s not there aka second best in chicago would have even qualified because there is TREMENDOUS pressure (from both having your money on the line AND because it’s EVO!) and he has no experience in this situation but he’s the next best talent the scene has next to ari (4th in Blazblue!!! lol). I would say tony dfly, marcus, jim, domingo, eric, and others are also borderline qualifiers similar to me, sprig, hum, kobayashi etc…I’m still looking for the hidden gem in the rough (do me proud GLB - on a NATIONAL/WORLD level)amongst all these new players but do have hope in people’s game’s improving. Brightside: It’s looking good with the amount of people who practice hard to level up!

I just don’t care enough to bring my game to that next level. I find I have a “happy medium” where my personal life, work, and games can flow and they don’t get in the way of eachother, and I still get enjoyment from all 3. That’s exactly where I want to be.
If it means not competing on a national level, if it means not winning local small or major tourneys, idc. I do this for fun and recreation now, and it does help break up the monotony of a work week, while not having to devote my entire life to it.
I love competing, being in the tournament environment, and supporting the scene. I’ll continue to do so as much as possible and maybe I’ll be able to help that certain someone who does have the time and dedication to take their game to a national level. That’s all I really hope for because I know I do not personally have the time and dedication to devote to it.
I still try to give everything I got during tourneys, and that doesn’t mean I’m ever going to hold back whether you’re playing me in a tourney or casual match, but for me to be comfortable playing games at my age now, I have to be able to make the other areas of my life fit as well. I know a few of the old “west side” crew know how it feels…d has kids, eric getting married, we’re not 18 y/o kids anymore and games sometimes have to take a backseat.
I’ll always love games but instead of being a bitch and retiring/quitting (lol), I just try to juggle everything the best I can. I know you guys can relate.
On an unrelated note, props to whoever it was I asked at FIO3 about the retro jordan kicks he was wearing. I had a pair of those when I was like 12 and was clueless they had re-released them. Did some browsing though and managed to snag a new pair (15’s!) for under a bill. Can’t wait for them to get here, loved those things as a kid. Yes, you can call me part shoefag now 
ever since i played in my first ever tournament, which was at wizard world chicago and the game was halo 2, i always wanted to take gaming to the next level. I thought i was going to do it in halo 3 but i got burned out after a few months of playing and not really seeing any progress in my play and also having so many horrible team mates online. Then sf4 was announced and i didnt really like fighting games that much because i never really got any of the new ones that came out and i played mostly shooters because that was what a lot of the good games were (bioshock, halo, gears of war) but i remembered playing fighters with my cousin and uncle (my cousin played mvc2 and my uncle played super turbo and the ex series) and they loved them and played a lot and my uncle would play customers at his store (windy city comics) back in the late 90s and i would be there to watch sometimes but i was still really little so i never took the time to play any game that much. Then when i heard about sf4 and the huge amounts of people that play fighting games in tournaments i wanted to compete and do more than just beat the story mode or beat douchebag kids online. I saw sf4 as my chance to take games to the next level. Im going to school to make video games so thats kind of taking gaming to the next level but i want to at least get 1st place in at least 1 tournament before i get a settled job and a life where i cant play games as much as i want anymore.

I agree entirely with this post, minus the shoes because I don’t particularly give a shit about kicks at all.
Everything else 100%, unfortunately I got into the scene way too late to dedicate the time it would really require. Full time work + other clubs + GF = low average of hours I can put into my game. However for me just placing halfway decent in local shit is my goal. If I could work up to an eventual top 3 every time… then I’d be just fine with that. As long as I have fun at tourneys and gatherings, then I’ll keep going.
Seriously, I know for some of you it’s something that’s happened lots before, but for me… playing a match and having people cheer you on is something new (especially after sucking people in from a full screen tech trap with tager and hearing people yelling about it ), and I gotta say that for me makes the experience amazing.
