Like real talk, even though you help people at their mistakes or what they’re doing wrong or what they should be doing, they never use those tactics you tell em to do.
I mean, what’s the point in trying to get good at a game, asking for advice or atleast receiving some, but not putting it to any use in the game. Makes me frustrated.

IMO the biggest problem for our scene is not having an arcade in the Chicagoland area that isn’t D&B. Maybe not the biggest, but it ain’t helping. However I may be speaking for my bike-riding, car-less self.

we do have other arcades that arent dave and busters or gameworks in the chicagoland area.

they just dont have the newest games. you can go to nickel city whenever and play older games but if you want to get down with the new games you gotta support the mainstream places.

trust me i do take peoples advice and go into training mode and try to think of ways to work it into my game but sometimes things take a little more time because not everyone can instantly incorporate something into their matches when someone is shouting it or the match right after they get advice.

and now i probably sound like a huge scrub.

I feel the same way. I’m definitely mindful of advice, it’s just not possible incorporating it immediately. No scrubbiness there.

Online is online, man. I’d say it’s something to avoid for serious play. At least until Capcom fixes the net code. I don’t think you’ll find the quality of 360 players any better than PS3.

Online incorporates lag tactics, even the better players are adjusted to lag, so it’s almost a different style of play in itself.

idk, I sort of felt that with his post of only having “hardcore sf4” players that he was referring to my gathering I’m trying to hold at my house. Its all cool though. I will say one thing though. Every game played is just casuals. There is nothing on the line at all. Nothing similar to trying not to get off the “machine” and trying to stay on it the longest. There are no tourneys being held, nothing in which there is a possibility of losing something. Thats why I stated that it was a gathering to get games in.

I remember this being brought up numerous times when we would go and play at Andys back in the day.

I don’t know if it’s just me, I’m getting vibes that Illinois as a whole is just being to prideful instead of a united scene. Let me explain what I think is going on. And correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t want to start anything with anyone. I’m just stating what is being said and since no one wants to talk about it but keep bitching about it, I decided to post about it. People don’t seem to want to play different people. Same old story, I know. I’ve heard some chicago peeps say that a particular group(or gathering) has nothing to offer while others feel like they shouldn’t let anyone know about their gatherings, which is cool. Maybe they don’t have enough room or whatever. But I hear from other players that have gotten invites or from different sources that the reason they do this is because they want to level up and think that these other players will just take up space and will dumb them down. I “felt” that same way too and I’m not shit in any fighting games. I had this false sense of pride. I asked myself, “But how are we suppose to level up if others view me the same way I view other people. We won’t help others out by pointing out their mistakes etc?(not spoon feeding, but rather give some advice or tell them why they did or didn’t do what they did.) How am I suppose to break my plateau if others are stuck below their plateau. What can one do? In the end, there will always be someone that will look at me the same way that I look at other players from my region. The same way we all look at one another.” I heard stories from different scenes and how they some travel 2+hrs to get games on the weekend regardless of the skill level there and we can’t even come together when most of us live 40 minutes minimum from each other. And hell yeah, I guilty of it. I could have taken the metra to get up to most places. I could have looked for nieghboring players to see if they would like to go to different get-togethers. I could have stolen my parents van to go to a gathering. But i didn’t. i’m just as guilty as everyone else. And yes, I do have things to do and places to go. But I’m just like everyone else. I work a full time job, have friends outside of srk, a gf and sometimes I don’t feel like playing but I do whenever I can.

I too want it bad just as the guy playing next to me. Let face it, Most of us play to be good. Everyone has a reason to play. Some have different reasons as they age but for the most part, everyone starts off with the same reason. Theres always a winner and a loser and no one like losing. I feel that instead of leveling up as a whole, we are leveling up in patches. We are scattered all over the place. We need what 2007 and early 2008 had. We need one central location (like Andy’s gatherings). There shouldn’t be a reason to separate one another and there shouldn’t be a reason why we can’t level up as a whole. Everyone has something to offer regardless if they are good or not. Everyone started as scrub. If it weren’t for Andy’s place, I wouldn’t have given a shit about fighters. If it weren’t for Jose, Shady and others showing up, I wouldn’t have wanted to try to learn from them and level up in 3s. We need one place that will have their doors open once a week. Somewhere that everyone can participate regardless of skill level(like Andy’s back in the day) because otherwize, the only persons that we are fighting against, are ourselves. (/rant.)

Can’t we all just get along, seriously. Yes location does play a huge factor for going to gatherings. I definitly at my place wanted whomever to show up. I know that it’s hard to want to go to the northwest burbs when you live on the south side etc. As for the supposed gameworks crew, we all just talk shit to eachother because we play each other so goddamn often. I do think sometimes it gets carried away. I am one of those people that looks foreward to gw nights because the forum of players is huge, I can test out tips I recieved the week before and get to play some of the local talent that wipes the floor with me week in and week out.

Now I wouldn’t be making the progress I am in this game without marcus, roman, aki, madbooface, Jerry, Eugene, lee, g, carl, dannkk, hell anyone I’ve played locally. I also really enjoy thursdays and want to keep them going, it’s a good time to really just chill out, have a drink, talk to eveyone and maybe play some sf.

So to repeat Rodney king, can’t we all just get along? And level up Chicago big time?

Seriously, though, as an 09er/scrub/whatever I haven’t had much trouble getting into gatherings. Only one I’ve been turned down for was Nive’s gathering a couple weeks ago, but he had said in the thread he was only having over the first 4 or 5 people that talked to him. When it comes down to it, though, I’m not gonna be offended if someone doesn’t want me over. Outside of the 10-15 people I’ve met, you guys don’t even know me…even then, we’ve just hung out for a few hours playing games and drinking beer. I am actually seriously surprised people are as open to newcomers as they are. Folks have let me into their house knowing NOTHING about me, other than I like to play street fighter 4.
