10 dollars is an extreme amount . not to throw drama into a thread that has a ton, but seriously, i don’t wanna hear silliness about electricity , rent space, etc etc, and doing this not for profit but to “help the scene”. That is just a lot of bullshit. I’m not saying what’s going on isn’t a bad idea or anything, but you are talking about making this a weekly thing pretty much. So every weekend, a gathering/tourney pretty much right? That is for profit if it’s 10 dollars. 5 dollars would be reasonable. 10? You’re trying to profit.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing to try to profit, but let's not pretend otherwise. For one, to say it's to go towards "better" equipment makes no sense. Whose to say this better stuff will be bought? I'm not questioning the integrity of people, just saying there is no real way of knowing the outcome. Also if you were to drop money on the monitors, consoles etc etc beforehand, that would make more sense to then request a 10 dollar door tag. Because then we would be playing on w/e is there.
Basicly because there is space, and a nice "Setting" we should pay 10 dollars everyweek? That's like anyone who has had a gathering in a nice place to start charging, cuz hey, they could use new monitor's and such to help out to amirite? I could invite everyone to my office for a gathering and say the same.
I’m not really trying to be disrespectful, but to try to coat this into “for the community” thing is kinda salty. Cuz the community like someone said before hand, doesn’t have a lot of money to keep dropping every week.
( i know people don’t have to attend every week, but just saying figuratively) . Most of us would be coming from near the city or a suburb not close to this location. Like i said before, gas cost factors in. So i should be happy about spending 40 dollars gas, then paying 10 dollars after an hour minimal driving to a “gathering” of locals?
Again i'm not saying this is a bad thing/attempt to do on a regular basis. Just don't come up with stupid ass reasons as to why it has to be 10 dollar venue fee. Because the electricity and rent would be paid regardless if 1 person comes or not. I just simply don't enjoy the prospect of shelling out upwards of 10 dollars towards this. The analogy of arcade gatherings etc doesn't apply, because they have every setup alrdy there, and etc. Whereas this place doesn't.
As a business man myself, i can’t help but just shake my head at the idea that this isn’t for profit. If helping the community was the main and sole priority, it wouldn’t be 10 dollars. That’s for sure.
As for it’s for competitive people, and more “hardcore” i disagree as well. I play sf4 a lot, maybe 3 hours a night for the last month or so. maybe a little less, but i think that’s a lot for someone with responsibilities as well. And when i had less going on , i used to travel nearly every weekend to atlanta or nashville or memphis (all 3+ hours away from my home city in albaama). So this isn’t baout the travel, or the gas. It’s more about attempting to say this is solely and the priority is for sf4 community in chicago or w/e. Meh it’s all good. I will attend some of these events, and enjoy myself i’m 100% sure. I can certainly afford it, but that isn’t what my complaint was about.
I still hold firm to it should be 5 dollars or something if the priority was indeed the sf4 community growing or w/e. This will be my last post on this subject cuz i know how ppl like to overdramaticize things here. Goodnight.
