Chicago: More Popular Than Porn ... The Legend Continues

10 dollars is an extreme amount . not to throw drama into a thread that has a ton, but seriously, i don’t wanna hear silliness about electricity , rent space, etc etc, and doing this not for profit but to “help the scene”. That is just a lot of bullshit. I’m not saying what’s going on isn’t a bad idea or anything, but you are talking about making this a weekly thing pretty much. So every weekend, a gathering/tourney pretty much right? That is for profit if it’s 10 dollars. 5 dollars would be reasonable. 10? You’re trying to profit.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing to try to profit, but let's not pretend otherwise. For one, to say it's to go towards "better" equipment makes no sense. Whose to say this better stuff will be bought? I'm not questioning the integrity of people, just saying there is no real way of knowing the outcome. Also if you were to drop money on the monitors, consoles etc etc beforehand, that would make more sense to then request a 10 dollar door tag. Because then we would be playing on w/e is there.

Basicly because there is space, and a nice "Setting" we should pay 10 dollars everyweek? That's like anyone who has had a gathering in a nice place to start charging, cuz hey, they could use new monitor's and such to help out to amirite? I could invite everyone to my office for a gathering and say the same.

I’m not really trying to be disrespectful, but to try to coat this into “for the community” thing is kinda salty. Cuz the community like someone said before hand, doesn’t have a lot of money to keep dropping every week.

( i know people don’t have to attend every week, but just saying figuratively) . Most of us would be coming from near the city or a suburb not close to this location. Like i said before, gas cost factors in. So i should be happy about spending 40 dollars gas, then paying 10 dollars after an hour minimal driving to a “gathering” of locals?

Again i'm not saying this is a bad thing/attempt to do on a regular basis. Just don't come up with stupid ass reasons as to why it has to be 10 dollar venue fee. Because the electricity and rent would be paid regardless if 1 person comes or not. I just simply don't enjoy the prospect of shelling out upwards of 10 dollars towards this. The analogy of arcade gatherings etc doesn't apply, because they have every setup alrdy there, and etc. Whereas this place doesn't.

As a business man myself, i can’t help but just shake my head at the idea that this isn’t for profit. If helping the community was the main and sole priority, it wouldn’t be 10 dollars. That’s for sure.

As for it’s for competitive people, and more “hardcore” i disagree as well. I play sf4 a lot, maybe 3 hours a night for the last month or so. maybe a little less, but i think that’s a lot for someone with responsibilities as well. And when i had less going on , i used to travel nearly every weekend to atlanta or nashville or memphis (all 3+ hours away from my home city in albaama). So this isn’t baout the travel, or the gas. It’s more about attempting to say this is solely and the priority is for sf4 community in chicago or w/e. Meh it’s all good. I will attend some of these events, and enjoy myself i’m 100% sure. I can certainly afford it, but that isn’t what my complaint was about.

I still hold firm to it should be 5 dollars or something if the priority was indeed the sf4 community growing or w/e. This will be my last post on this subject cuz i know how ppl like to overdramaticize things here. Goodnight.

Your ignorance and hatred is just completely amazing. You have no idea child what is going on. Go back home to Alabama and get some tissues…ohh and $10 while your at it.

Nice response. Real mature. I was going to edit my post and saw this. anywho my edit

edit: this was only about the gatherings. Tourney venue fees and etc makes sense. But gatherings was where i think the 10$ venue fee is rather high.

Wow really you couldnt proofread 2 sentences then all of a sudden you post something like this, I dont buy it, but its all good I really dont care what you think anymore. Seriously I fucking made a few bucks for fucking busting my ass in the last tournament and I NEVER asked for them. Rob gave them to me on his own will, stop trying to act like you know what is going on here…your really going the wrong way if you plan on playing SF in Chicago. $10 for 7 hours of play…yep not fair at all.

I seriously have other things I should be doing then doing this stuff like playing with my kids and doing work around the house. My time is very limited, think however you want to think Shark, ill stop talking smack to ya and respect your opinion but really you should get all your facts straight before posting something like that which you clearly stated tourney/gathering as being the issue.

On a SIDE NOTE TOURNAMENT INFO HAS BEEN COMPLETELY UPDATED AND IS NOW POSTED IN TOURNAMENT AND EVENTS PAGE.

SF4 Singles are NOW going to be ran EVERY Tournament Night as well as a few time changes so please read up!

Halloween Tournament is now in effect as well!!!

Fucking 38 hours with no sleep now IM GOING NUTS!

Some people just dont know who I am…and what ive done for the Chicago community.

D

LOL u MAD

I’m sorry for breaking your balls Tactics. *pat pat I hope you’re sleeping by now lol

Side note: Ari should keep taking our money until we can get on his level

you know if you don’t wanna pay the fee, you don’t gotta go. nobody forcing you to do anything.

think $10 for 7 hours of gaming is quite the alternative to a night of lagboxlive though.

I’ve never met you, but I wanna shake your hand.

if people are still worried about the 10 dollars, here is a FREE venue tomorrow (Saturday) with a 5 dollar tournament

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=210680

also it looks like this is going to be weekly as well

again

venue: free

now what is the excuse

I really wish I didn’t have to have a tournament on the same day as yours, but as Syxx said people do have options which is a good thing.

Syxx you should run tekken 6 tournaments for me whenever you aren’t throwing any yourself :stuck_out_tongue: and / or help with the Live Feed commentating…that’s of course if I can get Rashad away from playing Magic.

OK TIME FOR BED!!!

I just like to point out my tournament is not interfering with anyone’s.

My event starts at roughly Noon. we shoudld be done by 3 or 4pm at the latest. this still gives people ample time to go to MCM which starts at 5pm.

I dont want it to look like I am trying to get people to chose between the both. Hell if anything getting people to come to my event might get them rides to MCM since some of them might be going there afterwards anyway.

Just wanted to post some things before some people talk about me disrupting other events. Plus mine is centered towards the city players that already cant make it to MCM but still want to play.

ok good sleeeeep u’ve been up too long, also i would love to run T6 tournaments for you ASAP but at the same time I need to continue to keep things going in Wi since they are lazy and no one else will run a Tekken tournament there (at least one that people will go to ha ha ha) but they aren’t going to go down more than once a month.

Just have Ari play Able then you can take his money.

I work 40 hours a week. Drive an hour each way and still fit in 50 hours of SF4 a week. Your hardcore give me a break. Oh yeah and im getting married in 3 weeks.

You are not hardcore.

Also anyone up for money games i got 30 dollars burning a hole in my pocket. Next thursday at GW’s 5 dollars best out of 3 games. :wow:

just a question here. since the 10 dollars is going toward equipment will the fee go down in price once the equipment is bought? i can see taxing heads 10 to build up a spot but once its built what happens then? don’t take the easy route out and just shake this off as another person hating and being cheap. because this question is in context with why you justify charging 10. another question is i keep seeing 7 hours what if you work and can’t be there for 7 hours? i know i wouldn’t make it til around 9-10 and now i see 2-3 hours the deal isn’t as appealing anymore. by no means am i telling you change days or times because this is most likely the best time to host something of this nature. it’s just something to think about with why someone would complain about a $10 fee other than the fact that carol stream can be considered the middle of nowhere to some ppl.lastly i wish you luck and hope all goes well and if i can make it out once and awhile i will. my offer still stands to any northsiders that may be looking for a ride. i can’t leave til around 8 and i just ask for help in gas. shoot me a pm if interested. i’ll get back with you asap.

by your definition 90% of the top players who play this game aren’t hardcore.

doesn’t take but a few hours a day to keep a competitive edge. which was what i was alluding to.

i’d say you’re beyond the term hardcore if you spend a full 2 days out of a week playing street figher.

I was saying pretty much the same thing bro. I dunno how far it is for most people , but for some, it’s over an hour drive or roughly an hour. I wouldn’t mind going to play with chicago people, but 10 dollars every weekend on top of the 40 dollar drive for some of us is a lot. And of course a lot of us wouldn’t be there from 5-on . well lemme not say a lot.

And as i said before, i do intend on coming, maybe once or so, just i thought it was pricey for an every weekend thing.

But like cracka J said, noone is forcing anyone to come every week so it’s all good.

some questions to bp. how do you maintain and what else do you besides work and sf4? what is typical day/night with your future wife look like? if you spend about 50 hours working(i’m including commute) 50 hours playing sf4 that leaves you 62 hours. lets say you sleep around 5 hours a night your down to 27. about 1.5 hours eating brings you to 16.5. that leaves you a little over 2 hours a day to do anything else. i’m gonna have to say bullshit. now pick up those cards in the middle and try again. if you would’ve said 35 i probably wold of let that slide.

youre not hardcore because ive never seen you stage dive at gw. :looney:

and i may be willing to take you up on your mm, i just need to consider if i really am a betting man…

by last one do you mean the fine folks at IPG or FiO3?

just trying to clarify…

Man when I get some bread that im not spending on the gf or booze… I been a boozehound lately man… and still no job lol! hustle’in man…

Totally agree with what Jim said. Floe, keep entering, keep taking fight money. That’s the only way for us to level up.

However, there may be some people that think otherwise, so how bout this::

Payout for the tournaments = 50, 20, 10. With the remaining 20 going to the King of the Hill.
Current King of the Hill: fLoE

King of the Hill has to show to the next tournament and pays entrance fee as well. However, he only plays the Champion of that tourney for the 20%. Best of 7(i.e FT4). Simple.

Keep in mind this is only a suggestion, personally I’d like for floe to just join as a regular participant, and then play through the brackets as well, that way more people get exposure to high level play. D, it’s your tournament so you can do whatever you want.

In response to the charging of venue fees posts, I believe in order to remove qualms, maybe a statement/post from either MCM or D would suffice, as to a future reduction of venue fee etc once enough setups are procured or whatever.

I’d like to imagine our contributions would eventually help setup a little gaming center of sorts, i.e an Internet cafe/LAN cafe. I don’t know if it ever got popular in the US, but lan centers where people paid by the hour to play CS/FPS/WOW or whatever, they charged $25 for a full day or like $3/hr. I don’t see why paying $10 for 7 hours of gaming/hanging out is such a big deal. It’s like 1 drink in a bar, 2 tops.

In any case, I’ll still be making it to events as my schedules/budget permits. I’m here for good times, as I’m sure many of you are as well so let’s keep the sodium levels down.

BTW Carl, I got you for the $5 with BP Amoco this Thursday. Gambling is fun, wait til you turn 21 and go to Elgin with G.
